The lady we dealt with at A Class Jewellers (close to the ABC at Collinswood) at the time was fantastic in helping with our selections and special orders to replace the items of jewellery. She later moved on to open her own manufacturing jewellery shop on Hutt St and it is a beautiful shop located in a group of bluestone cottages, and has been there for several years now. Lisa is a wonderful, articulate, dedicated person who is tops in her field and also has a fantastic memory, because at least two years later she still remembered my name after a chance meeting. She first knew it was me from noticing the watch on my hand as I was leaning on the fabric counter at Spotlight of all places! True story also. She doesn't make everything in her shop and there are some brilliant pieces and all types of jewellery but the design works she creates is extraordinary and exquisite. She will work with you to get the specifications you desire and some, you will not be disappointed. Depending on purchases for ready made or manufactured, prices will vary of course. I don't often give top marks but she is definitely worthy of this recognition.

It's quite spacious and has a room off to the side where they do scrapbooking classes, the cost on average is $15 for tuition and then extra for the paper and embellishments. It can get pricey depending on what items you choose! If you're already a full fledged scrapbooker or want to have a dabble at home, then there's nothing they don't have, the paper range is extensive, embellishments galore, stamps in rubber and silicone, scissors, glues, ink, punches, various tools, books and much more. The whole idea of scrapbooking is to be adventurous and use your imagination, as it's not just about prettying up photo albums. For instance what about making some Xmas decorations of your own or making napkin holders for dinner parties and make it as posh or low key as you like. I felt comfortable as soon as I entered. This isn't a big glossy store with salespeople out the front and workman hidden out the back. It's a small space with three staff working behind a glass petition and a few pieces on sale in the display cabinets. I had a number of pieces but ended up only getting two pieces repaired this time - I had a battery replaced and links taken out of my grandma's Rado watch and a fine gold bracelet soldered. $35 all up and I got a text a week later saying they were ready for collection. They talked me through why some pieces weren't worth repairing unless they had sentimental value (labour far repair far exceeded value of piece). I'm holding onto those until I have extra funds. I once bought a lovely sterling silver and garnet braclet from here and do wear it on occassions. It's a mini library and I can envisage a couple of tables and chairs out the front sipping a cup of tea or coffee, whilst my nose is stuck into the daily paper, a book or a magazine (which I have purchased first). If the owner has the time, energy or inclination to do this, then wow, and I'd like my commission of a coffee each time I visit thank you. I really hope Acacia Arts doesn't end up the same way Lola's Flowers did across the road, retirement or worse is a horrible thing to have to deal with! Yes, they have a collection of accessories and crafts, but what really got me all geeky was the books! Oh, secondhand bookstores, how I love thee! Increasingly rare, a store devoted purely to old and out of print books is a treasure trove of amazingness. Not only are the titles sure to be either niche, classic or rare (or all three), the prices are usually great and the physical act of browsing books in search of a new gem for the bookshelf is a delight. The smell of old books permeates Acacia in a welcoming way, and there are stacks and stacks of books to keep you browsing. From Tolstoy to lurid paperback novels from the '50s, there's bound to be something for book geeks in here, and the staff are also lovely and helpful.

I really can't stress how good it is making your own jewellery. This place also has a great range of classes, including jewellery making, lamp work, creating your own beads, glass bead making, glass pendant, and PMC silver clay workshops. The staff make a great efforts to display popular items which they change regularly and they will leave you to browse or offer assistance if requested. The clothes here are rather on trend, however not entirely typical. There is a healthy balance between in-style and same old. The fabrics are often delicate, sheer and lace-like. Hence Pari pieces are usually found in a range of soft and feminine colours. I like Pari because I find that the items fit rather nicely into the clothes likely (slash desirably) found in my wardrobe. The décor is also nice, with a black chandelier, white walls and (floating) floorboards depicting a pretty and fresh yet feminine sort of vibe. Another perk is the price, with many items here including dresses, tops and shorts are only around the $25 range, and it is possible to shop via the Pari facebook page upon request. There are also shipping options unavailable,including free shipping Australia wide for purchases over $50. Pari is also found at the Gilles Street Markets, and many exclusive finds to be discovered!
