Without hesitation our guide immediately recommended the Old Thatch Tavern. First of all, it is centrally located and easy to find. Once there you're taking by the decor and homely feeling. The staff were amazing. I wasn't drinking hard liquor and they guided me through a variety of Apple ciders that were delightful. They made the entire experience 1000% better. Their advice and knowledge really made the stop one of the best drinking experiences we had in England. Little by little more members of our crew continues showing up and eventually we had a full blown part going. Again, it was a blast! I can't wait to go again, make a stop at the Old Thatch Tavern and relive some of the memories.

It was 10.25 on Wednesday evening, February 25th, but we were turned away by the young barman, as he said he had already called last orders and wasn't letting anybody else in. Now, my husband and I were very disappointed, as everywhere else in the town had been so welcoming and accommodating. We walked across the road and had a few drinks in another bar, as there are plenty of nice places to choose from, BUT, if I was the owner of this establishment, I would not be best pleased at young bar staff turning my customers away. That is a lot of revenue to lose over the year if this is happening every night, especially with the cost of living at its current high and the daily struggle that pubs face to stay profitable!! Maybe a bit of staff re-training wouldn't go amiss and a reminder of who pays the wages!!

We had the sticky meat platter to start off with which was delicious - the incredibly healthy deep fried belly pork was melt in the mouth and tasted gorgeous with the onion chutney. My partner then had the line caught cod which came with mushy peas (always a win in my book - I'm a Northern lass!) and beautiful fat crisp chips. I had a burger topped with pulled pork - both meals were delicious. Drinks wise they have a very large range - I had a Rhubarb Fizz non alcoholic cocktail and my partner had an Ubu. The other important thing to say about the Victoria is that the service is excellent and the staff make you feel very welcome. There is a car park and outside dining and the interior decoration is very pleasing. I can't recommend this place highly enough - we love it. The back garden dining area was green and peaceful. Would have sat out there all day and had drinks and food. I hope that this place continues to do exactly what they are doing.
