If Southern Grist didn't make me fall in love with Nashville beer, Bearded Iris was sure to. I was excited for our entire trip to make it in here. When you go in.. you can't escape the hop smell. It reminded me of entering a bourbon distillery and smelling the corn but with hops! I was there to see if they had any of their Mood Ring cans and they did. The particular four-pack I picked up was a Mai Tai Mood Ring IPA w/cherries, tangerine, lime, and almonds. It also had vanilla and lactose. I can't even explain how delicious this beer is. I NEED MORE! I also tried a half pour of the V. Latte. Imperial Oat Stout. Delicious. I do wish you could get a flight here. As it stands, you can buy four-packs, crowlers, full pours, and half pours. The half pour option is nice but if I could try four or five smaller pours for 10 or 12 bucks, I'd love it. They currently don't have many beers on tap so being able to try the majority of them would be awesome... especially considering their cans run from $15 and up. My Mood Ring cans were a limited release which made them $19. Trust me... my cans were worth every penny but had I been able to try a flight, I probably would've picked up more cans. Since visiting, I've found many of their cans around from time to time. They also had a tapping event at Great Flood here in Louisville. You can usually find their flagship Homestyle on tap everywhere. I've also seen Tunnel Vision around. This place might not edge ahead of Southern Grist for me but it deserves the 5-star treatment. Bearded Iris Homestyle has been one of my favorites for a while, so when your hotel is less than a mile away, what's a man to do? I've always wanted to visit this brewery, and let me tell you, it's an IPA lovers Mecca! I tried two beers on my first visit, Chief of Chief's and Beyond. Both are Double IPA's and did not disappoint. The inside was decent but still COVID distanced and the bar seating was still not back. If you want to be outside they have a very nice deck with plenty of seating. Bearded Iris does not offer food (always stick with what you know!) but they will give you a variety of menus to order delivery if you can't figure out how to order from this app or GrubHub. if you're one of those people, you're probably not reading this damn review I have slaved over for minutes! The beer is good, yes, there is no doubt about that but idk about the atmosphere. Maybe I'm just getting old or something but my wife and I stopped by on a quiet Friday afternoon to have a couple beers and play some card games but the music being blasted was horrendous. Bearded Iris was near the top of the Fella's list to visit during our short visit to Nashville. It made its way on to our itinerary for the last thing to do on our way out of town. The hardest part was having to wait until they opened for the day! We drove up, and it is in a more industrial part of town. Walking in, you make your way through their patio/beer garden area, which is lovely. Walking inside was a strange delight. First you are immediately overwhelmed with the smell of cooking hops. It is pervasive. You'll get used to it within a few minutes, but it is a smack in the face when you walk in. But hey, if you like hoppy beers...you'll be in hop heaven. The space itself is charming. About 3/4 of the indoor space is dedicated to the brewing, cooking and storage and looks like a typical brewery set up. The last 1/4 is the bar and tasting room, which is all dark wood and cool art. The dichotomy was appealing immediately when you walk in to see the tanks and a fancy chandelier. It made me smile. None of the beers really appealed to me...I'm just not an IPA gal. So i just happily sipped my coke. The Fella let me try his V. Latte: Los Vascos and it was pretty ok. A couple sips is really I could handle. He also bought a four pack of the Mood Ring and we cracked it open last night to try. It is probably the best DIPA that I have ever had (for my personal taste preferences). The bartender was very friendly, and it tickled me that he was wearing at shirt from a brewery from our hometown. It was a lovely, short visit. The beers weren't to my taste, but that doesn't mean they make bad brews. Certainly worth a visit if you have the time and desire. read more

I made 2 trips to Nashville in 2020- on my first one over the summer, we had Bearded Iris on the list of places to check out, but unfortunately weren't able to make it over there (and I later found out that they hadn't re-opened yet). I returned to music city in the fall and was delighted to find that they had reopened and that it was near my hotel, so I decided to stop in for a visit! Weather permitting, they have a nice outdoor seating area with tables and umbrellas- sensible system, if the umbrella is open, grab a seat. If not, closer for social distancing. Bearded Iris means business when it comes to keeping their staff and employees safe. Clear one-way traffic patterns to prevent congestion, mask on during staff interactions (even while seated) and enforcing their max capacity. Of course the beer is good too, I took 2 four-packs with me back to New Jersey! read more

Bearded Iris is one of the best breweries in Nashville and it's a blast that it's right in our backyard. We've been coming here for a few years now and it's always a great time. The beer is amazing and they make fantastic IPAs (particularly hazy IPAs), sours, and barrel-aged stouts. Their anniversary party each February is a blast and is one of our favorite events each year. Bearded Iris is the definition of a hippity hip place in all of the land. We waited in line and enjoyed the prohibition style tap room. The beer offerings were all excellent. The moon dust stout was a rare sighting from their wheelhouse of hazy IPAs. They have Mario cart and billiards in addition to the dozen or so tables inside. No food but the place was getting catered left and right. Busy Saturday night and the service was keeping things moving. They have a pool table and multiple board games. The place is also pet friendly inside and out. It's in a great area with lots of options for food. Second brewery stop on our cross country trip. I received a couple of Bearded Iris brews through a trade and was instantly hooked. They offer a lot of variety and had plenty in stock when I arrived in the evening. This brewery was in what seemed to be an industrial area with their own parking lot. I wish more breweries would provide parking. Initially I wasn't sure which door was the entrance as it seemed there were no clear markings. Once I figured out the entrance, it was beer buying time. So much to choose from and they just released two beers that day. Surprisingly there was no crowd. Hard to believe considering how great their beers are. Walked right up to the counter and ordered what I wanted. Waited a short time for a fresh crowler, but I was happy to do so considering what I was waiting for. Overall I was in and out pretty quick. Bearded Iris is 100% rock n' roll - if the Ramones owned a Brewery it would look and feel like this. Located in The East Germantown Neighborhood of Nashville, this place is busy and stays busy. Part of that is because Nashville is a big place with lots of locals and tourists and also because these guys make very good beer. Some quick things to know: The menu here is heavy on the IPAs. The parking lot fills up quickly but there's plenty of street parking. They will check your ID even if you're 90, so don't be offended. Real Estate at the bar is hard to come by, so if you want some and see some, grab it. No flights here. My visit there was a single line to the right of the bar. Multiple Bartenders were checking IDs and taking orders. If you're looking for variety here, do like I did and get a few half pours - they will also give you tastes. The taproom is cavernous and faces the big beautiful shiny production tanks. The music is loud, the people are cool and the artwork is badass. Love the big portrait of Louis Pasteur, who could easily be mistaken for Sigmund Freud. Outside there are several covered picnic tables if you can take the brutal heat! I had three half pours - Homestyle, one of their flagship IPAs was my favorite - clean, fruity, delicious - followed by the DDH version of Chief of Chiefs - dry, smooth, grapefruit. We love this brewery! Randomly stumbled across this place in what feels like the middle of nowhere in Germantown, Nashville. We were super impressed with the selection. Great IPA choices. Was really looking forward to visiting here on my trip to Nashville and it did not disappoint! I tried the sour IPA which took good things from 2 very different types of beer and blended them together to make a super refreshing beer. I also had the moon dust imperial milk stout, was super chocolatey and delicious. I would highly recommend if you like dessert stouts, but I'm happy I only went for a half pour as it was pretty heavy. They don't do flights, which I usually go for when visiting a brewery to try as much as I can, but the half pours are a great option to try a few different varieties and also be slightly less of a pain to the bartender than a flight would be. read more

I visited Bearded Iris in Germantown while visiting Nashville for the Americana Music Festival. I lived in Nashville for many years before moving Westward. I was excited to visit the city since it became a boomtown. Up to the day we visited this brewery, I had been disappointed with pretty much every food and beverage experience I had during my visit. I started thinking Flight of the Conchords' New Zealand slogan should be applied to Nashville: "Nashville... Don't expect too much... You'll love it!" Bearded Iris is an outlier. The brewery is in a warehouse in the quiet Germantown neighborhood north of downtown. The large private parking lot was a relief after fighting for space in the trendy areas in the Gulch. We sat inside since it was a typical hot TN September day, but the big outdoor deck is probably a great spot for cooler days. Stepping inside the warehouse, I noticed the music was edm but was pretty low-key. There were patrons of various ages from 25 to 70 enjoying the brews. The bar occupies one end of an active brewing facility. The large wooden bar spans one wall and can seat about 9 people. A sofa and couple of armchairs along with a pool table add to the homey vibe. The rest of the bar area is filled with large round wooden tables and stool seating on the partition separating the brewing area from the bar. Now to describe the main event: IPA's. Our party tasted Homestyle IPA, Attention Please DPA, and DDH Chief of Chiefs DDH. Homestyle was a medium golden, slightly hazy with a medium white head and a light citrus aroma. Taste was a good balance between high notes of grapefruit, grassy mid-tones and medium bitter bass notes. Smooth and quaffable! Attention Please is a very hazy, yellow ale with a small white head. Super citrus on the nose and palate with a mellow bitterness. Juicy beer perfect for a hot day. Last we tried was DDH Chief of Chiefs . This double IPA looks very similar to Attention Please but has much les citrus and more grass. DDH is more bitter but maintains a good balance. This beer drinking experience was on par with those I've had in San Diego and Portland. By far the pinnacle of my Nashville culinary experience this time around. Highly recommended to IPA lovers hanging out in Nashville. read more

Well worth a visit. The beer I tried was good+. Their IPA is a local classic. The exterior and interior of the building aren't extremely cohesive aesthetically, but I don't mind that. I really like the interior. It's hipster meets olde country brewpub. There's one pool table (which is a bit of a tease, honestly). The bar's very nice, the seating is comfy and eclectic as is the wraparound bar. I'd recommend they illuminate a bit more of the interior near the beer vats to add a bit to the aesthetic component and a little light to an ever-too-slightly dank and dark interior, IMO (though I don't recommend a vast change -- I feel like they almost have it down!) There's a fair-sized outdoor patio/deck (which I believe is relatively new). It's a little plain currently, but nothing wrong with its understated nature. That said, it never hurts to have an activity here or there to do with friends (maybe waterproof something or other). It would be really nice if they added shuffleboard or darts (probably inside). read more

One of the best breweries in Nashville, hands down. If I can state a downside, they don't have a kitchen to augment their beer. if you need another, the gravel parking lot. There, I got two in. When you walk inside the taproom, your eyes are first drawn to the wooden bar in the back. Wonderful hardwood (also on the bar tops and counters around the bar area) with a large number of their branded glasses in a few shapes (Size of glass will depend on gravity of the selection). Oh, and maybe the chandelier? The bar area overlooks the brewery, so you get a good idea of the equipment used to make what you are about to consume, provided enough lights are up to see it (more later) As for the beer? Bearded Iris is one of the best at making NEIPAs (hazy, New England style IPAs) in the area. Their flagship Homestyle is great on tap, but they routinely twist out new recipes that are far better than their standard. They have about 8 taps, and quite a few will fit in this category, although some will be doubles. If I can suggest something, try some of the stuff that is not in cans and get the standards in cans. Most are great poured into a pint glass and do not lose as much as some beers do compared to their keg poured brother. They also have Crowlers, so anything you love on tap, you can take home for later. I really love the ambiance when there is nobody in the brewery, as they will turn on the chandaliers and it is quite warm and cozy. If you can get into one of the upholstered chairs, it feels even more like drinking in a nice home. read more

We were visiting Nashville and were excited to try a new brewery and we were sadly disappointed. The employees were nice but the beer was on the warmer side. Our biggest problem was that the music they played was so offensive. The lyrics dropped the Fbomb, the N word and getting whores pregnant so they could be babies momma's . Super mediocre brewery experience. The beer is fine, I usually get the Homestyle IPA when I go to other places for a beer in Nashville. $6 is a reasonable price for one here. The staff was pretty unfriendly though. Didn't seem like they were too excited to offer any insight on the beers or share any knowledge. I felt almost embarrassed to even ask for beer recommendations, they seemed so standoffish. Aside from that, the environment was fine and it was fun to play pool.
