I'm not sure if this Beardens has new owners now or if they've had multiple new owners over the past years. But I honestly miss the old Beardens from back in 2008 and or before that. Basically with the new Beardens, you walk in and order your food at a cash register and then you sit down and wait for your food to be ready. It kind of reminds me of Five Guys with how you order your food. Which is fine I guess. But It's definitely not like the old original Beardens where they use to have waitresses and or waiters that would go up to your table and take your order. As for the menu, they don't have Beer Battered Mozzarella sticks anymore. Which was actually one of my favorites to get. I use to get those and a plate of French fries. But I think over time they ended up eventually changing the Mozzarella sticks into a different kind. Which I didn't really like those anymore. But the original ones were the best. But I think they made a new menu eventually. And it's ok I guess. They also have a new soda fountain machine that you can walk up to and fill up your drink which is pretty cool. And they also redesigned the outside of the building and the inside of it and made it look more retro. Which is kind of nice. And they kept the old toy train that would move around the room. Overall though, I'm not sure if I'll ever eat here again, mainly because they don't have the original Mozzarella sticks anymore and since the food ordering is kind of different now. And I just like the old restaurant that they use to have a long time ago. But I think people in general should at least try their food and see if you like it at least. read more

This iconic diner is a trip down memory lane in a vintage Thunderbird! It's an old school burger and hot dog joint, that's been going since 1948! The 'steakburgers' are delicious, as are the sides. They even have clam strips! Some have complained about the prices, but unfortunately, everything has gone up since the pandemic, and restaurants have to pass along the costs in order to stay in business. If it's an inexpensive burger you want, you can still find a good one at Canary's or George's, but you can't find a steakburger there. This was our fourth or fifth visit here. We loved it the first few times. This time, on our way I called on the phone to see if masks are required. I was put on hold. I was still holding after we parked and we were walking in. I showed my phone to the cashier, showing that I had been on hold 12 minutes, and she had no concern. Never apologized. She took our order. When the food came it was good but the order was wrong. We had to go back up and correct it. The prices are quite a bit higher now than they were previously. Almost all items are a dollar more. Since we were a group of five that added up quickly. The train was running. And the restaurant was clean. But at these prices and the customer service issues, we probably won't be back. read more

Bearden's has been around for quite awhile and it still delivers. Located in Rocky River is a cool retro style burger joint with a toy train running around the ceiling. You order up front and they deliver the food fresh to your table. Check out the free jukebox which has a great selection of classic rock, pop and Motown. the menu provides for burgers, fries, onion rings and other favorites, but I go for the fried clams. The fried clams here are large and made to order, crispy on the outside with a moist and slightly chewy clam inside, these are the best fried clams I have found in Cleveland. The fries are good traditional thin potato strips, well fried. Onion Rings are huge slices of sweet onions with a crisp thicker shell. This review is for takeout only. This seems like a cool mom & pop diner joint, so typically a place I'd like to dine in...but don't think I'll get that experience until COVID is over. My brother-in-law said we should try this place because I'm all about burgers, fries and shakes. So we got take out on a Saturday night. I got a regular cheeseburger, fries and a chocolate shake. We also got fried pickles to split. Burger was very tasty and definitely recommend. More meat and higher quality than a Steak N Shake. Would definitely get that again. Fries were blah. They could use more seasoning or something. The fried pickles were good! Very crisp and we dipped them in ranch. I wish they were chips instead of spears, but I recognize most places do spears. The chocolate shake was the real MVP. Very good and I cannot wait to try some of their other flavors! Definitely want to get back and check it out to dine in person. Old fashioned burger stand, looks like it came straight out of the 50's! Daughter and I are burger lovers, and love to sample all the local places. Had yet to make a trip here, so when Mom was out of town we snuck up to River to give it a go! Cheeseburgers, fries, onion rings and we split a vanilla milkshake. Burgers were hearty but not fancy...served with the typical veggie trimmings (if you choose), american cheese all sandwiched between a buttered / grilled bun. Tasty, greasy, just what you'd expect. Fries were totally rock star! They were pillowy in texture, served piping hot and stayed that way throughout the meal. Onion rings were a bit disappointing...more on the chewy side (big and thick) than crispy which we really did not care for. Lastly was the vanilla milkshake...served thick and so, so creamy. Had a wonderful (but not overpowering) vanilla taste and really hit the spot. Overall Id say (for what it is) the prices are on the high side, but so glad we finally got a chance to sample Bearden's and we will certainly be back. read more

I remember hearing about Bearden's decades ago during my college years. I don't recall going here then but in the area to shop recently and ordered a single bacon cheeseburger and fries to go. I loved it. Big order of fries compared to other places and they were hot and crispy. burger was neatly put together, cooked perfectly with crispy bacon, nice green leaf lettuce, tomato and ketchup. It was exactly the right portion. Burger was wrapped in paper and it didn't disintegrate in your hands like so many sloppy burgers. I will surely go back and highly recommend this place. read more

Oreo milkshake was very good, and our burgers (Jimbo and Gouda) were very tasty. That's about all though. We waited about 15 minutes for our one milkshake and 40 minutes for food, which seemed odd given the diner setting which gives the impression it'll be relatively quick because all they do are burgers, milkshakes, and fries. The fries and onion rings were cold and soggy by the time they got to us. I suspected they were sitting there for 10+ minutes while our burgers were cooking. It also strikes me as expensive for the kind of food it is. It cost $35 for two burgers, two sides, and a milkshake. For diner food, that's quite a lot, especially when the food takes forever and isn't hot.- They seemed adequately staffed so I'm not sure what took so long. My wife had ordered takeout before and had a much better, fresher, and warmer experience. Perhaps we will try takeout again in the future but I generally doubt we'll be back. read more

A surprise suggestion from my sons on "Dinner with Dad" night brought me back to Bearden's. I had been a "regular" at Bearden's prior to their closing in 2010, and returned only once after it's reopening in 2011. It just wasn't the same. Committed, however, to the "wherever you want to go" rule, after stating my trepidations, I accepted the kids' recommendation and headed to the once beloved Bearden's. We arrived at a vacant restaurant, staffed by a couple of highschool girls. No manager, or staff member over 18 in sight. Lack of supervision aside, they were pleasant enough, and the restaurant quite clean, albeit empty. My oldest son and I each ordered a single burger with fries and a fountain drink (it's not Coke or Pepsi, it's called Craft'62 made with Pure Cane Sugar), while my youngest just got fries and a fountain drink. Apparently I didn't give him enough time to review the menu, but I digress. Bearden's advertises fresh not frozen burger patties, and I have no reason to believe otherwise. A generous flat patty on a fresh oversized bun, with fresh ingredients. There is an upcharge for many ingredients though, and it can add up quickly. I think I paid $27 (plus tip) for the order explained above. That's $9 per person, and one didn't even get a burger... As for the food itself, the burger really didn't have a whole lot of flavor. It wasn't BAD, but it wasn't particularly GOOD either. A little salt and pepper would have gone a long way I think. Unlike their patties, their fries are definitely of the frozen variety. I seem to recall their fries being really good before their initial closing. Whatever they've changed; change back! Fries can make or break a burger joint. Will I return? The general consensus actually was "Yes." I'm sure my kids will ask to go back and I wouldn't complain. Notwithstanding, Bearden's is a long way off from what it once was. Hopefully the passion will return to the owner/staff and they will once again reclaim their crown as one of the best independently-owned burger stops Cleveland has to offer. read more

I'm surprised it remains open. Food is way overpriced and there is no quality control. Appears that every aspect of the restaurant is run by inexperienced teenagers. Both of our single burgers were extremely well done, hard and dry. Fries were ok and coleslaw was good but had weird, black flecks of unknown origin but definitely not pepper. Buns we're good and fresh! Tripp, our server, was very nice as was the young lady who took our order. Everything was clean. Sadly, this will be our last time here. read more

1/2 price burgers on Wednesdays! I have been coming to bearden's for years. I have always ordered for takeout so I have no experience on dining in. My go to is the double burger with american, ketchup, mayo, pickles and tomatoes. Cheese is an extra $.55 and certain toppings are an extra $.15 with toppings like bacon being $1 extra. Their fries are delicious and I usually order the onion rings. My favorite thing here is the PB milkshake. I have heard the Peanut Butter Burger is stellar here but I have never been bold enough to try it. read more

I tried Bearden's at the beginning of March because I was really curious about the remodel after reading an article about them in the Cleveland Magazine. Now I was a big fan of the old Bearden's, but this was just awesome! I loved coming here at a kid and I can't wait to go back!! I love the blue-ish/turquiose theme. I feel like there is more seating and the windows make it much more open. Such a cute theme and ambiance. I like going up to the counter to order, but that's me. I had the amazing Bearden burger which my mouth is watering as I type this. Just absolutely great. Nothing comes close, not even Five Guys. Bearden's is by far the best burger joint around! I love the slim jim fries, and of course their famous milkshakes. I can't even have milk but I gave in for a Bearden's shake. I also went when they opened around 11am but they still can people coming in even that early. Beware: it is a family restaurant, if you are like me, and prefer the not to enjoy the presence of little devils, this is not the place to hangout on a regular basis. The choo choo train could play a major role in that, but even I liked watching it go around as a kid. Overall I am SO happy to see Bearden's is BACK and better than ever! read more

I've been eating so many burgers this past month that I am going to start looking like a round burger patty myself if I don't include a salad now and then, but there are just too many places to try! This time around I stopped in at Bearden's for a double cheeseburger and the chili cheese fries. Firstly, this place has really pulled off their 1950's diner theme without coming across too kitschy. I like the atmosphere and think it's perfect for what they serve up, which is basically just burgers, shakes, and some fried sides like french fries and tater tots. The staff of teenagers also seems appropriate and reminds me of my summer jobs in high school. Speaking on the staff, they were all pleasant, patient, and helpful when I asked questions about the menu. Now for the food! Make sure you come in on a Wednesday because that is half price burger night even if you get the burger to-go. I started off with a basic double hamburger for $2.98 ($5.96 full price) and added cheddar cheese .55¢, lettuce .15¢, and since condiments are free my double burger came to $3.68. The burger is a pretty nice size so this is definitely a good deal. My small side of chili cheese fries came in at $5.05, but there was nothing small about this; could definitely feed two people unless you like putting yourself in a food coma. The chili is mildly spicy with chunks of meat (hamburger patties?), onions and green peppers. The cheese is your standard melted nacho cheese. So my bill in total was $8.73, very affordable! This place is definitely a solid 3 stars and I would recommend it over a chain fast food joint (support local!). The food was good, but I did not think it was something mouth watering that I would crave to have again. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the burger was not overly greasy, but it did not seem seasoned and I only got one slice of cheese for my two patties. The fries are thin frozen ones which I feel meh about no matter what, but they did the job. All in all I think Bearden's does well for what they are and you can't compare them to places with gourmet burgers or even a fast food chain because you're coming here for a taste of simple old school diner food and memories of yesteryear. This is arguably one of the best places to get a burger on the west side. They can be tailored to every taste with each ingredient priced separately on the menu. The fries are great but the sweet tooth nut in me gravitates toward a more super important recommendation: chocolate peanut butter shakes. Ridiculously tasty. In addition we just ordered meals... And they forgot to include the six coleslaw's we ordered... We paid for the six coleslaw's... But no one in there checked to see if the coleslaw's were in the bag... And you can't call them because they refuse to answer the phone... What business doesn't except phone calls... I stopped in here for burger week shortly after six on Wednesday. The place reminded me of the original McDonalds in the movie "The Founder" and my guess is it hasn't changed much since founded in 1948. Once inside I could see the place was totally overwhelmed. The kitchen was backed up and the orders were all mixed up. There were people at every table and some waiting on carryout, a long line, and almost no-one had food. After we ordered no food seemed to come out of the kitchen for about 15 minutes. I was getting more than a little worried we would be there all night and considering asking for a refund. Then someone sorted it out and food started pouring out and they caught up after a surprisingly short wait. I am guessing this delay was burger week specific, and I was actually a little impressed by the recovery. The burger offered was a peanut butter topped burger which is normally on their menu for $5.50. That didn't strike me as much of a deal for burger week. It was a weird taste, but the flavors combined better than I expected. I would be very happy to buy it on a normal day at $5.50. A side of sweet potato tots was ordered and they were very good. The total bill for two burgers, tots, and two drinks was something like $18, which was very reasonable. In the burger week context performance was sort of weak, but If I was in the neighborhood looking for a quick burger some other time I would not hesitate to give the place another shot. read more
