I did a black bear hunt with BearPaw Outfitters the week of June 14, 2021. I had a great time hunting with my brother and nephew. All three of us harvested very nice bears. I highly recommend BearPaw Outfitters for a black bear hunt. It's a not a fancy camp but I will assure you that you and your guide will put in long days in the mountains of Idaho hunting. They do not use tree stands so for you older hunters like me, that's a peace of mind. lol Stalking and ground blinds and sometimes with dogs are there preferred methods. Better shooting lines. On my 4th day of hunting my guide Branden put me on a beautiful color phase bear. I can't say enough positive things about guides Brande, Grant and Zack. They are a great group of guys and will work their butts off to give you an opportunity to harvest a black bear. Highly recommended.

My hunting partner and I just returned from a 2/1 guided combo elk and deer hunt in southern Idaho. The Idaho biologists stated good numbers of elk and an increase in mule deer after their winter kill in 2021. We hunted out of the Beaver Lodge facility, sleeping there and having our meals prepared there. We left the lodge @ 5:15 am and were driven in the guide's truck 30-45 minutes up forest service roads to our hunting area in units 77,78. We then hiked in the dark with headlamps 1-2 miles up the mountain, sometimes slowly hunting the terrain when it got light enough to shoot. We then sat on a saddle or other crossing point until late afternoon for the evening hunt down the mountain. During the 5 days of hunting, we saw 7 does, one small buck, and bumped a small herd of 6 cows and 1 spike twice, not getting a shot. There were 8 hunters in camp, with 3 guides. Only one 5 point bull was shot among us. The previous group of hunters also had only one bull elk shot. Dale stated a 40%-70% shot opportunity, but in our group, it was only 12.5% as well as 12.5% for the previous group. There are 400 tags allotted for the unit with 50 for non-residents. The units have adequate feed and water for the animals, however they are pounded hard by the hunters from the archery season on and the hunting areas are accessible by ATVs. In my opinion, the areas hunted had a low density of animals and is not worth the effort and dollars to hunt it. The accommodations and food were very good and the guide first rate, however not enough game to justify hunting with Bear paw Outfitters in those units. Greg Gosch read more

Don't hunt Bearpaw outfitters for turkey! If you want an uber driver to drop you off at a "killed/shot out"blind-that's your decision. Sitting next to what sounded like a dog pound of barking dogs from neighbors-that's your decision also. My hunt went like this. First day set up where guide flushed turkey off roost evening before-bet you can imagine how that went. Second and third hunt I was dropped off at a blind-the neighbors multiple dogs/peacocks/geese was so loud barking/calling/carrying on it was miserable! Saw 1 hen turkey(same one I'm assuming)both hunts. Doubt you could or would hear a gobbling bird(if one was in the area)past 100 yds. Drove past group of jakes as leaving after 3rd hunt-guide thought we could stalk them right after driving past them. They took off running but guide continued pushing them. My 4th and last hunt I relocated-only saw birds on neighbors where could not go-birds already knew to avoid ground outfitters had permission on because they've shot em out! My hunt was not due to bad luck or birds-my guide did not set me in a reasonable/hunt able spot. Hope this helps another hunters decision in future. I don't recommend Bearpaw Outfitters for turkey hunting. read more

I booked my once in a life time moose hunt with Bearpaw Outfitters Nov. 2023. We had a great time. Daniel Evans (our guide) was easy to work with and we were in to moose with in hours of the start of our hunt. The food and sleeping accommodations were great. Tara served us some very fine meals. I would highly recommend them for any of your hunting needs. Matt Naef read more

I went on a 5 day Idaho bear hunt and had an absolute great experience. The accommodations here very comfortable, heated cabins, which is more comfortable than the traditional tents. Food was also delicious, the menu included meals like pork loin, ribs, and bbq chicken. For the the important part, there were a total of four hunter in camp three of which got bear on their first or second day. I got a really nice bear on day four. I had a hunt that include the total bear hunting experience. Morning consisted of stalking and running hounds. The evenings where spent sitting on bait sites. I have to say I absolutely loved running the hounds, but it is physically demanding. On day three we chased a bear with hounds for seven straight hours, a exceptionally difficult bear. Next to actually taking my bear that was the highlight of my hunt. I picked them for the hound experience. When I told Dale this he contacted me to make sure I understood the hunt was not a hound only hunt, that they were used only in the mornings. I knew that but it was nice that he reached out to make sure there was not any misunderstanding. All the guides were incredible, they were all friendly and helpful. They made sure I had everything I needed and briefed me about what to look for when on the bait stand, for example if there was a sow with cubs coming in a bait site I was hunting. They worked incredibly hard for me, harder than anyone should expect. I would definitely recommend Bear Paw Outfitters. read more

I hunted the 2nd Rifle in Idaho units 77/75 with Bearpaw. We had Buck as our guide and he was fantastic. The hunt started off slow but halfway through we got a Mule Deer down in our camp and that started the momentum. On the 4th day of our hunt i was lucky enough to take my first Elk and i will forever cherish that experience. On the last day another guy from our camp was able to take a Mule Deer. All in all 3 out of the 4 guys we showed up with had taken an animal and the 4th guy saw animals but had no decent shot opportunities. Russel was another guide who was working that week and even though he was not our assigned guide he was very helpful with advice during our hunt. We stayed in town at a B&B Bearpaw set us up with the food was great and Vicky was a fantastic Hostess. I would highly recommend them for an Idaho Elk hunt. read more

I have had the opportunity to hunt with Bearpaw Outfitters on two separate occasions. The first was a last minute turkey hunt in Washington and I mean last minute. I booked, flew, hunted and tagged out on the last week of season. The first turkey came fast and easy, a big mature Tom on the first morning. The next two days I spent beating down the bushes with my guide Daniel. I passed on 30 or so turkey before I finally decided on one and with each opportunity I passed on not a single negative comment. I saw bear, cougar, deer, coyote, and elk while turkey hunting. Most within bow range. The sleeping arrangements was comfortable and I never left the table hungry. The second hunt my wife and I went to Montana for Mule Deer. I elected to stay in town at a motel and was picked up each day by our guide Derrick. The first morning we got on a good group of bucks and a few does. We scrambled to get set up twice a few mad dashes later and one well placed shot she tagged out the first morning on a great buck. The next morning I connected on a 175-180 class muley and again I was tagged out with Bearpaw. We saw well over 100 deer (mule and whitetail), antelope, and some really nice elk. Derrick was first class, down to earth and very patient while trying to get my wife on her buck. She was very comfortable around him and his personality left us no choice but to feel that we were hunting with a good friend from deer camp. Bottom line, if you want a luxurious, catered vacation, tell your wife to book the two of you a spa day. If you want to put boots on the ground, have a good hunt with great people and have above average success at quality animals then don't be afraid to book a hunt with this outfit. I'll be back every chance I get. read more

I chose Bearpaw purely off their webpage. I thought they were expensive, but I liked the fact that they advertised a "guaranteed" hunt. "If you don't get a shot at a buck, you get half your money back". This statement on their site was the main reason I chose them. After booking our 3 Day Guaranteed Hunt for $2,150 about 3 months in advance, I hadn't heard anything after sending him an email and our hunt was in 4 days, so I called Dale Denney after not receiving any response to my email. I got a hold of Dale on my first call to his cell. He stated that he was in line at McDonalds and would give me a call back. I gave him 24 hours and after not receiving a call back, I called again. Dale stated that his "email was down". No apology, just that was the reason he had not returned my email. I simply wanted to know more about the hunt. What to bring, how the season was looking, would we be hunting in areas damaged by the summer forest fires, etc. When I asked about how the guaranty worked, he stated that they no longer offered the guaranty. I told him that was the main reason I chose his company. He said "you don't have to come". No apology, nothing. I said the hunt was in 3 days and I wasn't going to disappoint my 12 year old son. So Friday rolls around, we make the 6 hour drive to their lodge which doubles as Dale's home. We pull up, and I see some people inside at the kitchen table so I go ahead and let myself in and introduce myself. Dale's out of town but his wife and son and a few guides are there. I asked Dale's wife (Tara) about the sleeping accommodations and she said she wasn't sure if our cabin would have a bathroom or if we'd have roommates. She simply had not figured that out yet. It was 3:00PM. They were helpful in helping my son and I sight-in our rifle. They had some targets set up 100 yards away and we spent about 45 minutes making sure the gun was accurate. After we were done sighting in, Tara pointed us to our cabin and told us not to turn the heat up past 68 or we'll blow a fuse. She also said our roommates would be there around 9:30. I was happy to have a bathroom in our appx. 10' X 16' cabin. My roommate rolled in on time but wasn't overly enthused to see he had 2 bunk beds for him and his two sons. He shared a bunk with his 11 yo son for what he said in the morning was the worst night of sleep he'd had in years. We get a knock on the door at (I believe 4:30AM or so) and head over to the house for breakfast. We meet our guide and climb in his truck. Our guide was a nice guy and I'm sure was doing what he was told to do, but here's one of the reason's for the score of 2 stars. A.) He was 19 years old. Not exactly the grizzled veteran I had expected. and B.), We did not get a "Guided" hunt as promised. They did drive us out to a private, gated ranch and then drove us to a blind that was set up 50 yards from a deer feeder. But then the guide told us he'd be a few hundred yards away and to text him if we need anything or if we take a shot. Not exactly like the video on their website. The feeder goes off at 7:00AM and 5 minutes later, 4 doe show up and 5 minutes later a 3 pt. whitetail shows up and my son get's his first deer. He's happy, I'm happy and I guess that's what it's all about. Things go smoothly from there. So 2 stars for getting a deer. 0 stars for lack of communication and the fact that we paid for a "Guaranteed Guided Hunt" but only got a "Semi-Guided Baited Hunt" per their guidelines on their website. I could've sat there and argued with Tara over the $500 delta between a Guided and a Semi-Guided, but I didn't feel comfortable doing so. Others we met at dinner were back for their 2nd or 3rd hunt with Bearpaw so they do run a successful business. But in conclusion, I won't be back. read more

There was very poor communication about the hunt. Tara did not know anything so she was no help. There was no answer from my emails. I finally got a call through to Dale and told him I was leaving Tennessee the first of the next week and I needed to know where to go. I did then get directions to a camp which was run by his son. There were five hunters in the camp. My non-hunting wife and I got a room with 2 twin-size beds and there was a father/son in another like ours. One hunter arrived with his son--without advanced notice that the son was coming. They all slept on cots. I was hunting for bear, elk, and deer. I saw no game in 5 days except some whitetail does going or coming from the woods behind the camp. The food was adequate if you like sweet rolls, cereal, sandwiches, hot dogs, hamburgers, etc. I would have loved to SEE an elk. The real kicker came out on the third night when I asked where the meat processor was located. No one knew if there was one. He did call Coeur d'Alene and was told they don't do wild game. I then assumed they had never harvested any animals in this camp. You can't transport unfrozen meat back home to Tennessee. I have hunted twice before with other outfitters in Idaho and have gotten elk and bear. I have also hunted in Wyoming twice getting mule deer and antelope. All great places and lots of game. I must say, the older guides worked really hard and earned their money--even if I didn't see anything. The son is evidently just getting started and has a long way to go to be an outfitter. He needs to go stay at another outfitter (out of the family) to get more experience. This was the worst experience I have had. I would not recommend Bearpaw Outfitters to anyone. read more

Hunting and guiding have been my lifelong hobby and business. For the first 18 years hunting was a part time business, my wife Tara and I both worked other jobs, for the last 22 years outfitting has been our full time business. Tara and I have been lucky to serve many hunters who are now friends.

This was my second hunt with Bearpaw Outfitters. Last year I drew a Washington spring bear tag. I called Bearpaw and we set up the hunt. Daniel was my guide-we spent 3 very long days together searching and tracking. Hiked over 27 miles in the mountains and he taught me a lot about hunting. Got a beautiful bear on the evening of day 3. This year I went on an Idaho hunt again with Bearpaw. Great set up. The have a stunning location in the mountains of northern Idaho. Guides are top notch-very personable and just a lot of fun to be around. Excellent instruction-they are there to make sure you feel comfortable with your hunt to include any shooting instruction you might need. I got another stunning bear on this hunt with a thick brown coat. Brandon was my guide that afternoon. He was great! We had an awesome hunting experience and he lugged that big boar back to the truck, took pictures for me and taught me a lot about bears in Idaho. Bearpaw goes to great lengths to ensure a good hunting experience. The Denney family has developed a top notch outfit. I will hunt with them again because I love learning more about hunting and I love the fact that they have done so much pre-work to do everything they can to ensure success for us hunters out there. The camp life is fun-meeting other hunters and telling lots of tall tales! If you've never hunted with a guide or outfitter group, give this a go. It is worth the price-especially when you realize just how much work they do all year long to focus on your success. read more

A true disappointment. I initially contacted Dale on March 19th to inquire about his services and options available. I didn't receive a response until 3 days later. After talking with him and discussing our options, my wife and I decided to do a DIY hunt with a map provided by BPO to help us out since we are not from the area and didn't have time to do preseason scouting. On March 22nd, I sent in an application for a DIY Map hunt and Dale said he would get to it before our hunt on April 24th. On April 12th, I contacted Dale to make sure were on schedule to get the map before our hunt. Again, TWO DAYS LATER, he stated that he had a few more maps to do and asked when we were planning on hunting. I told him again, for the THIRD time, our hunting dates. As we start our 6 hour drive east, on April 22nd, I emailed Dale to find out the status of the map. Unfortunately, we still have not received any response back from him. I was really hoping to get my wife her first turkey, but or plans had to change drastically because of the poor customer service we received. I hope this is a one time event and no one else gets let down by Dale and BPO, but it is truly a disappointment.... The website could use some updating and more current information as well. Beware... read more

Dale, just wanted to drop you a note to close out with you on my bear hunt last week. I killed a good chocolate boar in the last hour of the last day of the hunt. Brian and your team never gave up and worked hard to make my hunt a success. I'd like to send Brian a note also to thank him properly. I didn't get a chance to really close out with him as we were still skinning the bear and pulling back straps around mid-night Friday. Trent was my guide and he did a great job. He's an excellent, guide, hunter and hounds man. Trent is a tireless worker, has strong people skills, and is a physical stud. Hold on to him, he represents Bearpaw Outfitters in an outstanding manner. I absolutely loved the pan handle area of Idaho and am thinking of doing the Elk combo hunt with Bearpaw in the fall of 22 with my son. Let me know if and when I can book that hunt. Thanks for a great hunt, Bob read more

We've hunted a few times with Bearpaw, always top notch and successful hunts. Booked their Montana Bison hunt, for my youngest sons first big game hunt. I can't recommend it enough, you really need to give this one a shot. Ranch house is very comfortable, the guide spent a lot of time preparing with my son, and was really patient with him getting him setup on several animals until he got the perfect shot opportunity. Spent a lot of time with him teaching how to dress and skin an animal of that size, I can't think of any way it could have been a better experience. A few days in the beauty of the Montana mountains, a 10 year old who is already counting the days until he can go hunting again, a freezer full of delicious lean bison, and memories for life. read more

My son and I had the opportunity to hunt with Daniel and Brian in Northern Idaho for black bear last week - 5/2020. My other twin and I had recently hunted with Daniel, Zack, and Dale in Utah in January 2020. Once again, we were very successful with first my son, then myself harvesting our bears. We harvested them on public land over bait - which allows some selectivity. We also put a long run on a bear with Brian's dogs - but the bear won that round - but a fun and exciting hunt. I whole heartedly recommend Bearpaw Outfitters - you will not be disappointed - they help you with a wonderful fair chase hunt and then expertly handle the meat for the freezer! Thank you Dale, Daniel, and Brian! read more

This year was the 4th time I have hunted with Bear paw outfitters. Every year it seems to get better and better. The accommodations, food and guides were great as always. For several years I have told my boys that when they turn 18 we would go on a great hunt. This was the year it worked out for all of us. My 17 yo son shot a nice chocolate and my 19 yo son had a couple of great opportunities. Dale and Tara run a great operation and have outstanding guides to be successful in your hunt. I would highly recommend Bear Paw outfitters and I look forward to me and the boys doing another hunt in the fall. Chad, Logan Utah read more

My wife and I just finished a bear hunt, which was our third hunt with Bearpaw Outfitters. We have previously hunted moose and cougar with Dale and his crew. We had a fantastic time on our Idaho bear hunt. Even with all of issues that the pandemic has caused, Brian, Brandon and Zach did a great job making our hunt both fun and successful. Like the cougar hunting, bear hunting was a new experience that we would love to do again. We loved it so much, we'd booked another hunt with Bearpaw Outfitters for next year! read more

My fifth hunt with Bearpaw Outfitters was fantastic. All of my hunts have been. The new cabins are very nice. The food is always great. I've both bear hunted and elk hunted with them. You will see a lot of wildlife. The elk and deer come down and eat the grass at the main house. This hunt was my quickest. We walked into a bait where some bears had been hanging out. There was a huge chocolate bear at the site. My hunt was over in an hour! Great guides, professional outfit and always an overall great experience. read more
