This restaurant was horrible! Here were my main complaints: 1) all the menu items listed online (which led us to chose this restaurant) were "not available" the night we dined. If you are going to us the Internet to advertise, at least keep information current. 2) The dinner rolls were frozen, thawed and under baked. 3) The crab dip tasted mostly of cream cheese and peppers. I never saw any crab in it and if so, it was the size of a sesame seed. 4) Our server was dressed way too casual for "fine dining" (which it is not btw). In fact, our server was dressed in black, baggy exercise shorts, classy! 5) The stuffed flounder entree was so salty I could barely eat it and it is NOT with lump crab meat as described. It was sesame seed crab again and over mixed with breading and peppers. I had high hopes for this restaurant with such good ratings, but learned from local business owners, that is USED to be excellent (hence good ratings), but that it went so far down hill and now serves "dirt". They said they would never eat there again and neither will we. The locals know! Bottom line: If you think the meals on Carnival cruise ships are delicious, than you will like this restaurant. read more

I don't usually write reviews, but felt I had write this one. We have been to Beauchaines many times before, but wanted to try it because of news of a new chef. We ordered the beef fondue for an appetizer, we had it many times before, however, when it came it was nothing like it use to be. It was cut up beef in a brown gravy, with a Watery blue cheese sauce, with pita chips. It use to be sliced beef in its own juice with a blue cheese sauce that was absolutely delicious, and it came with crostini. It was good, but not like it use to be. Our waitress asked if we liked it and we told her that it was disappointing. She said she was sorry and that the new chef was trying to replicate some of the old chefs receipes. For our entrees, both my husband and myself ordered the short ribs. The waitress told us that this was a recipe by the new chef. When the waiter brought our dinners, mind was swimming in gravy, while my husbands was fine, plus the waiter brought us steak knifes. I've had short ribs before and the meat always fell off the bone. We had to cut off pieces of meat off the bone, plus the gravy had a lot of pepper in it, and I really had to eat around the gravy. The short ribs itself was real fatty. So I really have to say we were both disappointed in our meals. Can't really say that it was busy, because it wasn't. This was about 5 Days ago. read more

Tonight (April 23, 2011), my cousin made reservations for 6:00 p.m. When we arrived, we were really excited, as we had already checked out the menu online. In particular, we were looking forward to the alligator tail appetizer. The bartender, Jennifer, waited on us. At first, she was very friendly. We ordered a bottle of wine and the alligator tail appetizer and, a few moments later, the calamari appetizer. When the appetizer came out, I seriously thought she was bringing croutons for another table. For $10, there was less than 4 oz. of alligator tail. It was served on a plate the size of my hand that was mostly taken up by a ramekin of dipping sauce. We were stunned into silence. We ate the few bites of alligator tail while we waited for the calamari. It was ok, but not spectacular and certainly not worth $10 for less than a handful of meat. When the calamari arrived, Jennifer described it as "Calamari Salad." It also cost $10 and was billed on the menu as "Fried Calamari tossed with Napa Cabbage, Peppers, Jicima, Scallions and Cilantro in a sweet Chili Vinaigrette." What we got was a mound of cabbage topped with four pieces of calamari. It was incredibly disappointing and ridiculously overpriced. At this point, we decided to send it back and get the check so we could go somewhere else. The portions were the smallest any of us had ever seen for fine dining, and my husband and I have worked in restaurants for over a decade. I've dined at fine restaurants across the world, and my husband has worked in fine dining for most of his career. The portions would be small even for a tapas restaurant. Words seriously cannot express how minuscule these portions were. We called for our server, who had spent the last half hour changing radio stations. We explained that we were going to request the check, and asked that the calamari, which was not at all like any of us imagined, be sent back to the kitchen. She was incredibly rude, informed us that "It describes it on the menu, the owner's here, she's not going to let me take it off." As I've mentioned already, my husband and I both have worked in fine dining for years, and we were shocked. We would NEVER have been so contentious to a table. I told her that we'd like to speak to the owner. There was NO WAY we were going to pay $10 for a plate of cabbage! The owner came up and informed us that nobody ever complains about the non-existent calamari, that it's her most popular item, but she would take it off the bill. We were all stunned at both the server and the owner's un-professional manner. As I've said before, I'm very familiar with fine dining and the fact that fine dining often has smaller portions than casual dining restaurants. I was expecting smaller portions, I was NOT expecting portions so small that they wouldn't cover the palm of my hand! I especially wasn't expecting such unprofessional conduct from both the staff and the owner. We ended up paying for our wine and leaving. We went to a cheap greasy spoon called Batt's Grill, an old standby which gave us a ton of good food for the price of a children's meal at the Beachaines 211. Beauchaines 211 made me REALLY miss Indigo Marsh, a fine dining restaurant with great food, good portions, and NO ATTITUDE. Don't waste your time and your money....and if you do, get ready to grab a bite to eat somewhere else afterwards because the portions wouldn't satisfy an anorexic. read more

We returned here after a forgettable meal last year and could tell that something had changed. Meal was very well calibrated and came out exactly as planned. I started off with the spinach salad. This was a great salad. Not overwhelmed by the bacon, very nicely dressed. Delicious. I usually don't order anything "teriyaki" style, but I tried the rib eye and it was delicious. I can't remember the sides, besides a broiled potato, but it was very good. Perfectly medium rare. The bananas foster dessert is great. Happy we went back. read more

Poor visit recently; they changes dramatically in the past year. They ran out of arugula so they replaced it all with cilantro and didn't tell anyone. Shrimp and grits seemed to come with just a tablespoon of gritz- the soupiest dish ive ever unexpectedly had. The staff blamed it on having a large party downstairs when confronted, instead of being even a bit apologetic. Definitely one of the better restaurants in the Surf City/Topsail area. Our food was really delicious - my mom and I shared the Low Country Shrimp and Grits and both started with the Two Susans salad. The Shrimp and Grits was very rich and perfect for sharing. The salad was uninspiring (greens, sunflower seeds, peppers, goat cheese, and LIGHTLY dressed) but a good way to start the meal. Everyone else in our party loved their meal as well - highly recommend the scallops! We all also shared the Chocolate Lava Cake and Key Lime Pie. Both delicious too. We've been here before and the ambiance is remarkably better when on the top floor. We were disappointingly seated on the first floor where there are not that great of views and kind of an awkward set up. Our service was awesome, as well. We had some complicated requests with our drinks and dinners and it was all spot on. Our server was literally running around, so needless to say, the efficiency was impressive! read more

Very disappointing. We've eaten here several times and had great experiences but not tonight. After telling the server of her shellfish allergy, my wife's filet arrived piled high with crabmeat. When a new filet arrived, instead of medium it was raw everywhere but the edges. Looks like it was seared on the outside and that's it. We told our server and did not take it, but to rub salt in the wound were still charged for a piece of uncooked beef. We supported Beauchaine's and other local restaurants during the lockdown earlier this year by ordering takeout so this treatment was especially disheartening. read more

First off, Topsail Island is a small coastal town on the Coast of NC that most likely does mof of their business during summers. So I was pleasantly surprised on their ability to seat our party (12-top) on a Thursday night for dinner. Our family was in for my sister's wedding and it just so happened to my father's birthday, so we all went out for a celebratory dinner :) The servers were extremely warm and welcoming and really made us all feel at home (that Southern hospitality is priceless.) We all sat down and were given menus and one funny thing I noticed was the menu being 4-pages but 1/2 of being advertisements for local businesses. Their menu wasn't that big, but it's all about quality NOT quantity, right? I had their Roasted Garlic Marscapone Cream Sauce served over a bed of fettuccine... I opted to add shrimp and scallops too. One word: Delicious! The sauce was super flavorful and I even dredged my dinner roll in it at the end. The shrimp and scallops were fresh and well cooked and the veggies (mushrooms, snow peas and sun-dried tomatoes) provided countering textures to the soft noodles and seafood. I'm actually craving another plate of this right this minute! If you ever make it out to Topsail, I'd highly recommend this spot! read more

Excellent drinks and food. It doesn't look like the Yelp reviewers give this place enough credit. I think they take reservations, but we just had a 20 min wait. My family and I had the salmon and grouper (fish of the day). Both were excellent, the grouper winning between the two dishes. Salmon was still good, and I would order it again. They were out of the swordfish, so I'm sure that is a winning dish. I drank the apple pie martini and chocolate martini, both were amazing, the chocolate martini was my favorite. The service was great as well, especially in a post-pandemic time when they are probably overwhelmed. I would go back for the drinks alone. read more

Ate with my spouse during our beach vacation. we ate the filet fondue appetizer which was excellent. However, they were out of crab and we had intended to order the crab cakes. we also ordered the filet with crab and they were out of crab so replaced with lobster, which they were also out of and replaced with scallops. Delicious food! Very pretty views of the intercostal - very warm tonight. The sun is setting but we're in the midst of a heat wave (90+). Started with spinach salad-warm bacon dressing and a cheese plate (to die for). The blackened mahi with mango salsa and the crab stuffed flounder very good. Will look forward to a return visit. The worst restaurant I have been to in recent memory. Everyone in the restaurant around our table was waiting for over one hour after ordering. I had to ask the waitress three times for my drink, and could only get one drink because she never came back. The waitress, who is apparently the manager, was rude and absolutely nasty to us. She rolled her eyes and answered obnoxiously when we asked if peanut oil was used as our sons have peanut allergies. The food was horrendous. Kids could not get through three bites of their steaks. Tuna special was horrible, dont know how else to explain it. 330$ later for four people, the waitress/manager couldnt have cared any less about our complaints. I went to Beauchaines 211 a few times. Food was good. Crab dip was delicious. My mane dish Crispy Orange Shrimp is still making me to crave for it. The sunset is very nice to watch at Beauchaines 211. However, the service needs a bit of improvement. I am getting impression that their kitchen is small and understaffed. Waitress took our order 3 times: first for drinks, than for appetizers, and when we were done with appetizers, for main course. That was the first restaurant that looked to me very inefficient. Why would you want people to occupy table for 2 hours when they can eat in 1 hour? Because of the structure of their order system we had to wait for a long time between appetizer and the main dish. read more

The bar tender couldn't seem to remember simple things like... that we had asked for food menus in addition to drink menus... or what we ordered to drink. He also didn't seem to know basic cocktails. . We asked for a old fashioned and a lemon drop, not exactly wild stuff. This is surprising as this place bills itself as a martini bar... Might have been because he appeared high as a kite. The Cajun style oysters were outstanding and the ambiance was passable. Our waitress was super (dealt very professionally with the following situation and we gave her a great tip) but everything else was not. When we first arrived the hostess "announced", before she would seat us, that "there would be no separate checks". We ordered within 20 minutes but our food didn't arrive till 55 minutes later. My daughter's filet minion was very over-cooked and my mother-in-law's flounder was served luke warm, as were my scallops. As it stands now, we definitely would not return. You are serving people who are trying to enjoy their rare vacation, if you are not going to have your act together, don't be open. If the owner would like to call me for feedback I would be glad to try to help and remove this review if they are serious about being better. We ordered the wedge salad and shrimp and grits to take out and it was amazing! Everything was very carefully packed and the salad was crisp with a delicious blue cheese dressing. The shrimp were seasoned and cooked to perfection in a fabulous sauce over creamy grits. We finished it off with a piece of opera chocolate cake that was divine. Perfect meal! Went on a Thursday night. We had a reservation. When we arrived, the hostess was MIA for about 10 minutes. When she returned, we told her that we were there for our reservation, and she then attended to the 3 other parties who arrived after us. We had a table in the dining room with a great view of the inter coastal waterway. I had shrimp and grits which were very good. My husband had the special which was surf and turf (steak and shrimp). He said it was good as well. Service was slow, but friendly. It seemed that they were understaffed. Kitchen was very slow. Glad we weren't starving when we went here. Prepare to wait awhile for your food even after you are seated. Still casual dining, but a bit more upscale than most of the restaurants in Surf City. read more

The waitress was very knowledgeable about the food and wines so everything went together perfectly. Charming ambience with inland waterway views are a bonus.
