In a way it is sort of designed to make it easier for people who live in the area to catch the train as opposed to having to trek down to the main railway station. It certainly does not pretty new, and quite fancy as well, even though they hadn't quite finished when I was here. Still, it isn't bad.

This station looks like it should be a major rail-hub. Well, not quite because there are only two…read moreplatforms, but its style certainly makes it stand out from many of the other, more boring, stations. Not only is the building nothing short of beautiful, they also have a wooden desk in the main concourse, and an undercover, and quite lovely, footbridge. In a way it reminds me of the stations of yesteryear, and it certainly has maintained its charm (even though it is no longer the terminus).

The thing that annoys me the most about this station is the complete lack of lockers. Mind you,…read morewhile that argue about 'community safety' I do point out that other stations on the network do happen to have lockers, so there is that. However, other than that this is an absolutely gorgeous railway station, no doubt going back to the gold mining days. In fact, I am somewhat baffled why there happens to be such an impressive station in such as small town. Mind you, at least the trains still run up here, even if they don't head on further.

It wasn't until the train started moving when I realised I had left my backpack on the bus in…read moreBallarat. It had my money, my tablet and my medication in it, so you imagine the panic I was in. So of course I rang the bus company straight away and spoke to a guy by the name of Bill. He wasn't too reassuring, saying the bus I was on may not get back to the depot until 10pm that night. He asked me what bus I was on, but not being local I couldn't tell him. So he asked me for the number on the back of my Myki card, and with that he was able to track down which bus I was on. Bill rang me back within two hours to say he has my backpack there at the bus depot. I can't tell you how much I was relieved. And nothing was missing.

While there seems to be botanical gardens in most towns that I have visited, some of them really to…read morestand out, and this is definitely one of them. It is actually a part of the park surrounding Lake Wendouree, but it certainly does stand out with not just its beauty, but the numerous gorgeous statues that are scattered about the place. Yeah, these statues, all of them mythological in nature, is what I really liked about these gardens, and they haven have a small hut that is dedicated to statues. Okay, not all of them are mythological since there is a path called Prime Minister's row, upon which are busts of all of Australia's former Prime Ministers. Anyway, these gardens are definitely worth checking out.
