Well i dunno the reason i hit up Specsavers the first time was because they were the cheapest at the time and i was a student! Their eyetests were super bargainous at a fiver and it was too good an opportunity to turn down. Some are rather snooty about Specsavers for eyetests, but i was assured by the lovely staff that this was all poppy cock, and the real test would be in how well i could see out of my lenses. Fair point. Really really helpful staff, and not overly in your face willing you to buy designer spectacles, just more interested in if you look a tool or not, because you have a big round face and should never ever wear glasses with a rounded edge to them! EVER!!!! Two pairs of glasses, and an eye test, all done and dusted within a week with lots of friendly smiles, helpful information and a discussion on the possibilty of contact lenses with free trial bookings...great.

Since the 'regular' lenses in the spare pair would look like milk bottle bottoms, right? Well, I can't blame the saleslady entirely, I did fall for this rubbish. When both pairs were presented to me, I inspected them, and yes, there was a discernible difference between the two sets of lenses. Just. Maybe. If you had a microscope handy. Don't fall for it. Or maybe just buy elsewhere.

It's also reasonably cheap - they do good value contact lens packages that include regular checkups, and they often have good deals on glasses, such as buy one get one free. As it's a chain, it's also easy to get care when in other parts of the UK. This particular branch has most of its examination rooms upstairs, but there are a couple downstairs, so it's fine for wheelchairs and pushchairs. The one problem I have with it is that they send me absolutely loads of mail, telling me about new offers and reminding me loads of times when I'm due for another checkup, which is annoying.

The staff here were super friendly, from the fantastic optician Mohammed who even warranted a compliment from Boots when I picked up my new glasses, to the lovely women who took my details and run the floor. They did have a good selection of glasses, I only went to another optician after my eye test here for my glasses as they stocked the Dolce and Gabanna brand which they don't seem to stock here, plus they were running a better promotional offer to make it worthwhile. It was so easy getting an appointment, you can make them in-store or online, they did move my appointment earlier but this was better for me, they would have kept it at the same time but didn't want me to be rushed during the test and then looking at picking up new glasses. They did close early on one occasion, I did turn up five minutes before closure, after making them aware this was addressed. 4* - Great Opticians, solve problems well when they do occur. Having a better selection of glasses to compete with Boots, Vision Express and Specsavers should be a priority. It is a shame in the refurb they didn't improve technology such as with the eye testing machines instead of the heavy lense frames, similar to Vision Express.

The staff are really approachable and discuss all the lense options available and which lenses will work best for you. They also sell glasses and there are some nice designer ones. You can get a discount if you buy new prescription glasses alongside ordering contact lenses. I've had no problems whatsoever and will continue to use there services.

It was so refreshing to sit and be presented with beautiful glasses chosen to suit my face, personality and profession rather than stand alone staring at a wall of homogenous frames without guidance. I'm not going to say it was easy, because deciding between the exquisite frames was far from it. To say that I'm happy with my new spex is an understatement. I'm definitely a Jones and Co convert and will be returning to treat myself to another pair. Next on my shopping list is sunglasses. Oh and the staff were absolutely lovely too!

The staff member had average knowledge to help offer some advice regarding the recurring problem I am having with my new frame. The store's layout is typical of any Vision Express location, but it also has an upper level, which I presume they use for eye testing/offices. The selection of glasses was reasonable, again I've seen better at other Vision Express locations but still had reasonable choices. On Monday she yells at me for not knowing that kids glasses cannot be collected on Sundays. Yells at me in front of my child about this when I said you said no such thing before or explained on the phone re kids glasses collection. She continuously keep saying to front desk staff to get rid of me and my child by increasing the approximate waiting time (like we are that stupid right!). Despite this we continue to wait and she walks over casually and telling new rules of glasses collection which she clearly made up at that instance. What the hell, urrgh, to make matters worse I found out she is the branch manager (Sam Brooks) Run away , as far and far away as you can.

This branch of Vision Express is a rather small branch, and is located on Market Way in the…read moreExchange Shopping centre in Rochdale town centre, being a customer of Vision Express for over 18 months now where I have had numerous pairs of glasses, mainly visiting the Manchester Arndale store as well as calling in various other branches such as Bury, Oldham, Manchester Trafford and Leeds, I have become more knowledgeable and used to what I should expect from a Vision Express branch, which is why I feel this branch was really dissapointing. The branch its-self here was really small, and the selection of glasses here was poor, and it was barely average in-fact, which was a shame. The overall layout of the store seemed slightly old, inside it even felt older than the Manchester Arndale branch which was recently closed and replaced by a branch across the way, which shows why a refurb of this branch to be able to compete with other more modern branches would be well suited to this branch, yet perhaps could be difficult due to space. The staff around the store were average at best, they didn't seem too friendly. As well as mentioning the branch being small and not as modern as other branches, the overall feel also wasn't great which is a shame too, and due to the reasons discussed I feel this is probably an opticians to avoid unless you're in the area and in dire need of an eye-test or glasses repair, if not perhaps another opticians or a different branch of Vision Express would be better suited to your needs, so sadly I feel Vision Express at Rochdale's Exchange deserves a single one-star rating.
