We certainly weren't expecting it to be as big or as good as it was either! We did not ask, though, if the gluten free pies were all you can eat as we only ordered the one. As for the regular buffet, it is smaller compared to Gatti's past but still had enough options to satisfy my nostalgia, the food tasted just as I remembered, which for me was fantastic. Heck, even the plates are just like I remember! When we arrived there weren't too many people, but I can definitely see if the place was full (the movie room, the sports room, and the cafe) how the buffet would be far too small to accommodate the masses. But when not at capacity, there is no issue. The staff were kind and attentive, and the game room was surprisingly fun! Also small, but has enough variety to make it worth it. Going up to the prize counter was just as exciting as it was when I was a kid! This was such a fun little treat to find and I had a great time!

Deleon Plaza is a great oasis in the midst of a bustling downtown. I toured all the historical markers in the plaza and took a breather in the quaint gazebo located on the grounds. Across the street is the oldest continuously running delicatessen in Texas. Don't miss out on their world famous reuben sandwich. The plaza is a gem in the middle of a lot of hidden treasure. Resolve to pay a visit if you're ever in the city.

There's plenty of parking on the street, and if you're doing business downtown, it's a great place to start off from. This historic park feels like it's been around forever. The gazebo can be rented out if you have an event. At one end of the park is a larger than life monument to the fallen Confederate soldiers. At the other end of the park is the monument to the six flags that have flown over Texas. It gives a bit of history about how Texas has been such a hotly desired territory! This location is in the National Registry of Historic Places! There aren't any bathrooms. There's a drinking fountain that worked.

If you feel so inclined, there is a donation box that you can throw a few dollars in, but it's totally optional. In fact, the docent that helped us and gave us a tour that day never even mentioned it while we were there. -It's a part of the La Salle museum group. When La Salle's ship, the Le Belle was found, it's surviving belongings were split between several museums throughout Texas with this being one of the recipients. It's pretty cool to see items that were in the seas for a couple of centuries just inches from your face. -It's catalog of items is pretty large considering it's small size. Many items give a glimpse back to Old Lavaca. -The docent on duty when you go in will walk with you and show you all of the highlights in their collection. We got the scoop on many items and it was so educational. I'm a history nerd so I had tons of questions about all sorts of things. Our docent answered them all and was just so friendly the whole time. This is a history nerd's dream. If you are in the area with an extra hour or so, come check out this museum. You just might learn something too.
