A Latina owned beauty shop was music to my ears when this place was recommended to me. I was so excited and couldn't wait to support them. Let me preface this review with stating that I am specifically speaking to the quality of the nails, not the people. Everyone was friendly and nice. I got an acrylic full set with a minimalistic design for $80. On the pricey side but I love supporting local businesses that are run by people of color so it pains me to write this review but honestly, this is what YELP is for. When booking with Whittier Beauty Collective, I was told to make a $20 deposit which was fine. However, when it came time for me to pay, they didn't take my deposit into account so I paid an additional $70 at checkout. It was on my drive home from the appointment that I realized this so I reached out and they sent my deposit back. Imagine how many people forget about the deposit and overpay for their nail service? Anyways, the nail job wasn't the best but I was happy with them. I made a follow up appointment for a fill because I wanted to continue supporting this business. LESS than two weeks later, two nails just pop off with two others lifting. I didn't even feel the nails come off, I saw them on the floor. Let me get two things straight, I have been getting my nails done for years, not consecutively but I have experience with getting my nails done. I've bumped my fingers and smashed my hands with my nails still intact so I know what a good nail job is. Also, I do not have a labor intensive life/job, I simply sit at a desk and work in an office so for two nails to fall off out of nowhere truly speaks to the quality of the nail job. I reached out and let them know what happened to which they responded with a "sorry". They subtly blamed me, claiming many factors could've contributed to them falling off. I didn't appreciate that. THE LEAST they could've done was offer to fix the nails but no, they'd rather lose an entire customer than to be accountable and offer a solution. Needless to say, I canceled my appointment and will not be spending my money where customers are not taken care of. The pictures I have attached were taken one week after they were done. Lupe is the best! I haven't pampered myself at all due to the pandemic and I've really felt not like myself. I was skeptical to go into a salon as I am still trying to become acclimated to the normalcy of the world after the pandemic. Lupe made me feel so comfortable, she has a private room and even wore a mask while she did my service. I got my eyebrows laminated, cleaned up and had henna color applied. This review should be allowed to give zero stars. I booked an appointment with Sarahi well in advance and paid my deposit. The day before I confirmed with her and she said yes. The morning of she cancelled the appointment without any excuse or explanation. I offered to move around my other appointments and go on a day better for her. She agreed to two days later. I confirmed with her again the day before and this time she said even though she knew what I wanted she couldn't do it anymore. She knew I was leaving out of the country for a wedding not just some random birthday celebration. And she waited for the night before after 7pm to tell me this. Now I'm stuck unable to call any nail salon because they're closed and with out my nails done. This was not only bad customer service but complete disrespect for one's time and patience. A new client of Dominique but will now be a forever client. My daughter asked for a cut & Highlights for her 13th birthday so after many research and reading reviews, we made an appointment with Dominique. My daughter came in the salon super nervous and dominique was extremely nice and made sure she was comfortable with the color and style they were going with. 4 hours later ( my daughter has ALOT ALOT of hair) and viola.. her hair turned out sooo pretty!!! picture does not do it justice! It was everything my daughter wanted and more! she layered her hair and even style it with an amazing blowout and curls. what made dominique also stood out is that she sent a text the next morning suggesting some shampoos to help control any brassiness and answered some more questions etc. and was told to come in for another round of toner if there happens to be any brassiness. This place is super cute and small. I've been here once about 2 weeks ago. It's nicely decorated and clean. The vibe is really intimate, and I never would have discovered this Salon had it not been for my stylist. I've been a client of Dominique for 1 year and a half now, all of my visits have been great! Which is why I felt the need to follow her to this salon. She is an expert hair colorist, balayage , highlights and hair cuts. All of which are treatments I have received. She is current on hair trends. If you are planning a dramatic change my advice to you would be to get a consultation. She's straight forward and realistic. I learned that when I wanted to go silver. It didn't happen over night , it was a process. Worth the wait!!! My hair is healthy. I would constantly get complimented on my hair and referred several family and friends to her. They have also become regulars who ditched their previous stylist (sorry not sorry) I'm lucky to have stumbled across her Instagram @domi_doesmyhairr take a look to see her work but the pictures don't do it justice! The appointment was not cancelled because it was against their cancellation policy and I would have to pay for services already prepaid on a beauty pass. I showed up early to my appointment and was in this place for about 2.5 hours for a wash and haircut that took 40 minutes but since the stylist felt behind she had to take care of others before she could blow dry my hair. She asked me if I wanted to come back, but why would I if when I asked to reschedule they said no. I thought my hair looked good when I walked out of the salon. But as soon as I got home I looked at my hair in the mirror & noticed some really brassy parts ‍‍ && I noticed bleach on my sweater (left arm area) my sweater was dark so I didn't notice till I got home. I came and got a gel manicure by Valerie and she did an amazing job. Perfect. She's so sweet too. It's a small intimate place and I like that. I went in for a consultation with Jude. I was very disappointed after she did not want to listen to what I was requesting. I wanted to go lighter with a balayage. Instead, Jude told me that going lighter would not look professional on me and that I needed to go dark to cover my grays!! I can literally count the 2 to 3 gray hairs that I have in the back of my hair. I am 33 years old and no other hairstylist has ever tried to make me feel old and bad about the hairstyles that I choose. My hair is not damaged so either she is not comfortable with lightening hair or she was just having a bad day. Regardless, it's unprofessional.
