Bought some cufflinks from here about a month ago. Thought that it would be quite snooty, but I very wrong. They were extremely helpful and found exactly what I wanted and the price was not that extortionate. Well recommended! read more

Poor service from front of store. The older guys that own…read morethe shop seem to know everything, yet the front of store women is useless. I was told it would take a week to polish a ring, a bit long I thought but I left it with the understanding that it would be ready on Friday. The ring although, not worth too much was a gift for my girlfriend from a Charity trip I went on in Tanzania. To be given to her on her 18th birthday on the Saturday. The woman in a blunt and un-interested way, stated upon collection 'It won't be ready until this afternoon'. Slightly annoying as I left for work late so that I could collect it when the store opens! I then asked, how long it takes to polish. Her answer 'a few minutes', XD aha! So with that I got the ring back and will now proceed to purchase silver polish from a shop which costs cheaper and will be ready in a shorter period of time. To cut a long story short, steer clear of this shop whilst a woman's on the counter!

There is an honesty from James Bloor you don't get with larger franchises. Over the years, I have always received excellent prices and service, which I would say is second to none from ALL the employees and James himself. I have never had a negative experience and would recommend James Bloor to anyone and everyone. Outstanding service!

The owner and (I think) his two colleagues are always very helpful and show a great understanding - and patience - in trying to interpret my far-ranging ideas for jewelery to please her ladyship with. The shop is central and very welcoming. The prices, for handmade and custom designed stuff, is very reasonable indeed (just don't tell her ladyship).

Massive department store on Reading's high street, John Lewis has everything. No cheap knock-offs…read morehere, it's all name brands and it's all expensive. Similar in theme to Macy's or Dillard's or Bloomingdale's in the States, the John Lewis department store is carved up into various sections for menswear, ladieswear, boys, girls, housewares, electronics, jewelry, perfumes and more. Very good service, which is what you are paying for. The electronics department includes televisions, radios and computers, priced at what I think are above PC World and Argos prices. All that said, it's a lovely store and a pleasant shopping experience. If I ever win the lottery, this is where I will blow most of my winnings.
A fantastic, all-in-one, department store…read more The departments were clean and organised, the staff friendly and helpful, the selection varied, and the location perfect for those that want to make a day of shopping as it is surrounded by stores. The bedding and furniture departments were delightful in options and prices, everything from cheap as chips to in my dreams. The clothing has some great sales if you are able to come at the right time, and there seems to never be lines for the dressing rooms (that alone would make anyone a fan). Departments include clothing (mens/women/children), shoes, housewares, makeup/perfume, accessories, electronics, you name it they have it. Great if you need a gift for someone and are at a loss as there is bound to be something here. Should you not be able to make it to the Reading location, John Lewis also has an online gift registry which is sure to make life easier for all. Enjoy!

Fantastic service from a small local jeweller's. This place is a real gem ('scuse the pun), with a…read moregreat range of jewellery and other gifts available. Where it comes into its own though is with the various services offered, such as designing your own jewellery - great for engagement and wedding rings. David also offers a faultless alteration and repair service for any older jewellery and the travelling valuer they use is excellent. Best of all though is the service which is always interested, friendly and caring. It may not be the cheapest jeweller around if comapred to H Samuel and the rest, but the service and attention to detail is definitely worth paying that little bit extra for.
