Growing up, my favorite shows were some Canadian cartoons I found on YouTube. They always referenced Beaver Tails as these amazing things and I always grew up wishing I could have one. But alas, like so many great foods, Beaver Tails were fictional--or so I thought. I learned last year that they were real and actually served by a business called Beaver Tails! But alas, it is a Canadian chain and I do not live anywhere close to Canada. But then, just when I had given up hope until I somehow was in Canada one day, I saw something I couldn't believe. Beaver Tails had one location in the United States, and it was in Arkansas just two hours away! I called the number and spoke with the owner and she told me all about how they had visited Canada and fallen in love with Beaver Tails and how the people there had been so nice that they decided to open a franchise here in the United States! This location is a food truck and they post where they will be with a schedule on their Facebook. She told me they would be nearby in Bentonville at a bike festival and I made arrangements for a day trip with a friend. I arrived, ticket in hand for a bike festival with not a single care about bikes. The workers were so kind and friendly and did their best to make my childhood Beaver Tail dreams a reality! Did I mention they have poutine?! Another Canadian classic that is one of my favorite foods consisting of French fries, cheese curds, and gravy. The place I used to get it closed down and now, nowhere in Tulsa serves classic poutine and I never get to satisfy that craving--that is, until today! I got classic Canadian poutine and four Beaver Tails! They were so kind and patient as to let me do half-and-half flavors on each tail so that I could try eight different flavors! I must admit I went big living out my childhood dreams! The poutine was delicious and brought back amazing memories and satisfied a craving I've had for years now but been unable to do anything about. For the Beaver Tails, they have a ton of flavor options including choices from a secret menu they showed me! I tried the Classic (cinnamon and sugar), the Avalanche (Heath cheesecake), the Elvis (chocolate hazelnut spread, banana, and peanut butter drizzle), the Triple Trip (chocolate hazelnut spread, Reese's Pieces, and peanut butter drizzle), Strawberry Cheesecake (strawberry jam, cheesecake, and graham cracker crumbles), Apple Pie (apple pie filling and caramel drizzle), Pecan Cheesecake (cream cheese, pecans, and caramel drizzle), and Cinnamon Roll (cinnamon sugar with vanilla glaze drizzle). Every one was absolutely delightful and delicious. The base of each is the Beaver Tail which is a fried dough kinda like a mix between a donut and a pretzel. Then, they add the toppings for the flavors. My favorite was the Cinnamon Roll which was like a cinnamon sugar donut/pretzel dipped in icing. Then the Triple Trip, Strawberry Cheesecake, and Apple Pie followed very closely behind. I loved them all though and look forward to the next time I'll get the opportunity to try even more flavors! "Do you want to go to Arkansas and get BeaverTails?" This was the question I was asked by a friend a few weeks ago as he had just discovered BeaverTails Mobile and was planning a trip to visit it. Immediately I said yes and a few weeks later we were pulling up to a bike festival to eat some Canadian food. Walking up to the food truck, I was treated to the warm smell of baked goods and the savory smell of poutine. BeaverTails Mobile sells its namesake pastries as well as poutine and other Canadian specialties. When it was my turn to order, I chose the apple pie beavertail, and it was delicious. My friend also got the poutine, and, when I tried it, I was instantly transported back to eating poutine in Canada.
