My friend and I were on a mission to try mate, which is a earthy matcha tea-like drink with yerba/sherba leaves streped in hot water, and consumed from a vessel called a mate with a straw. We went to Las Cabras to start as we read online that they serve mate. However, the location was out of mate and were unable to serve any. They had a location of the same franchise, Beba, which they recommended we try. Success!
We were able to try mate in this chic and modern cafe. The place is dog friendly and mate is culturally drank at home and not served at shops; however, after we explained our goal, Millie, one of the workers served us some mate along with a side of a savory piece of cornbread (I cannot remember the actual name of the bread, but it was very delicious). Millie also taught us how to pour the water over the yerba, how to sip the mate, and brought over sugar packets in case the taste was hard for us to adjust to. As frequent tea drinkers, we were both very happy with the taste as is. We highly recommend this spot in Palermo! read more
