With a ginning moon swinging on hinges out the front, the moon smiles at you in a puppetry grin, endowing the shop with Punch & Judy quirky charm. However, whilst the inside of the shop is decked out with some nice things, it lacks the promised vintage quirky twist that the shopfront implies. What Punch Gallery does sell is a somewhat eccentric mix of jewellery (glass earrings of carrots, birds and various other animals) sitting in glass cabinets throughout the store, beautiful doctor's bags made from smooth creamy leather, handblown glassware, coin purses and wallets, teapots, antique apothecary cabinets, homewares with an antique countryside appeal and a variety of artworks. But it really is all about the art here - particularly Australian art which is why I love it. They had a lot of paintings of Balmoral Beach (for obvious reasons), a few of the harbor bridge and the outback. The artist list is too long to mention but the exhibition they were featuring when I was last in there was the romantic paintings of Robert Hagan. Most of it is out of my price range but today I bought an illustration of a kookaburra printed on a card for $6 that I'm going to frame and put on my daughter's wall. It's beautiful. So I'll have a piece of Moulton Galleries even if it is miniature.

They have all kinds of paintings and art pieces on display in the shop window, which was enough to get me inside. Inside, it's a lot more spacious than it looks from the outside. It looks more like an art gallery than a regular store, and I was captivated by all this new art that I was being exposed to! As much as I love the store/gallery, the salesperson wasn't very inviting or attentive at all. It seemed he was just standing around, uninterested in the patrons, until he was asked a question, at which point he'd answer shortly and go back to being uninterested. A better salesperson would probably do wonders for this place.

There is also a gift shop telling unique items and a teahouse on the main floor. Admission is free and they have free daily tours which may highlight several artworks and the artists behind them. We had stumbled upon White Rabbit Gallery while trying to find things to do in Sydney. We stopped by White Rabbit Gallery on a Sat morning. We ended up doing the free tour (about 30 min long) once we arrived as staff had mentioned this to us when we arrived. Staff explained to us the gallery and the types of artwork that they had on display, noting that the exhibits change every few months. She took us around several artworks and told us about the story behind the works and the artists, which was pretty interesting. The art itself was pretty cool - quite unique. Each artist we saw had a statement and a story behind why they decided to create such works. We definitely enjoyed our time at White Rabbit Gallery and would highly recommend if it you are in Sydney!

More of an art-enthusiast crowd hoping to double their money than art lovers or artists. So I wouldn't expect the content of this gallery to be anything too confronting or mind blowing. But Matthew Quick's Monumental Nobodies made a good impression.
