Pretty standard and well done menu with items like Fish and Chips, Chicken Sandwich, Grilled Salmon and not so common grilled octopus. Good selection of beer and cocktails/mocktails too. Wait staff was friendly and brought water for our dog. But like so many places that don't know protocol, they came and cleared plates as soon as each of us was done instead of waiting until everyone had finished eating. When are we going to learn to slow down in this country and just chill? Of sorry didn't mean to start a rant. Never been here before, but will definitely come back again! We were seated right away with an epic ocean view. Our server, Ryan was awesome and attentive. We started with the trio of dips and toasted pita app. It was great, especially the tzatziki! My mother-in-law and I both ordered the pesto shrimp with linguini. Wow! We both could not stop raving about it. I know it sounds corny, but the flavors really had me feeling like I was in the Mediterranean! My husband had the tempura tofu salad and he loved it, plus he said it was the best Arnold Palmer he's had. Upon approaching the entrance we overheard a patron joking to the waiter that he block the sun while she ate her meal. She was sitting outside on the deck. We thought there was inside seating. However, there was limited indoor seating and we were informed that seating was in fact reserved. We chose a table that we thought might be shielded from the glaring sun. That was not the case. And, we noticed other patrons who looked sweaty and uncomfortable sitting in the sun as well. It was only 74 degrees when were arrived and cannot imagine dining outside on that patio when it really gets hot. That said, the staff and our server were all lovely. I ordered the whole Branzino which was very bland. My whole fish cooked in an air fryer at home is much tastier. My husband LOVED his Osso Bocco. Was also surprised by how incredibly loud the restaurant became after more people were seated considering we were sitting outside. Anyhoo, this is not a redo for us. My fiancé and I recently went to Beeside Balcony in Del Mar with my dad and brother for a celebratory dinner. My brother found the spot and made a reservation, and overall, it was a great choice for the occasion. We started with two crab cakes (listed as "crab cake" on the menu, so take note it's one per order). They were fresh and flavorful--a great way to kick things off. The guys ordered beer, and I went with the white sangria, which was light, fruity, and really refreshing. For mains, I ordered the pesto shrimp linguini. While it started off delicious, I found the walnut pesto and chili flakes a bit overpowering by the end, which took away from the pasta itself. My fiancé enjoyed his Bolognese, my dad had the lamb chop and said it was cooked perfectly, and my brother was very happy with his pork osso buco. Great 2nd floor location in Del Mar with ocean and sunset views. The servers were very knowledgeable about allergens and menu accommodations. Although not labeled on the menu there are a variety of gluten free and vegetarian options. We got the hummus platter with both pita and vegetables. I liked the artichoke hummus the best. The filet mignon was well seasoned but was a bit fatty and chewy for a filet so I would say not the best cut of meat for the $58 price tag especially with just fries as a side dish. Unfortunately the crème brûlée was not gluten free which is really odd to me but I was able to try the lemon tart. The almond four crust held together well but overall it was lacking that tart lemon flavor that I was expecting. The seating area is fairly small and even on a Wednesday night it was full. Came here for date night during SD Restaurant Week with a reservation. Go to the restaurant a little early and was seated right away outside in the balcony. They provided heaters for all of the outdoor seating. Although we came for restaurant week, they did also give us their regular menu to look at just in case. We both ended up eating from the restaurant week menu, which was a 3-course meal at $50/per person and did not include the drinks. We both got something different, but I tasted his food as well so the ratings below are my opinion. What he ordered: Artichoke Hummus - 9/10 really good just wish there was more. Bolognese - 8/10 knocking off some points because I've never had bolognese with pasta shells, but the flavor was good! Lemon Tart - 4/10 honestly not my favorite because it was way too sweet and the almond shortbread crust was a little hard to get into the spoon. What I ordered: Arugula & Beet Salad - 9/10 flavor was really good, but I don't remember getting any cinnamon walnuts. Denver Steak - 8/10 the flavor without the chimichurri sauce was good and even better with the sauce on it. Wish it had a different side to come with it instead of fries. Made reservations here for my wife's birthday and we were seated outside. It was very hot this day and the sun was in our eyes making it hard for us to read the menu. We asked the server if we could sit inside because of the sun and heat and he said there was only room at the bar so we took the seats. When we sat down at the bar, we were facing the entire restaurant which kind of felt awkward, but we just tried to enjoy the meal. The restaurant was small then we thought. We ordered the crabcake, the Gyro, and the Beeside burger with a side of truffle fries. The crabcake was pretty good, but it was more like a crab ball than a crab cake. The salad that came with the crabcake was also very good but we wish we had more of it. The Gyro came with large chunks of tough meat making it difficult to eat and the meat wasn't well seasoned and was $24. The B-side burger was okay. It wasn't anything special with very limited toppings and cost $21. The truffle fries were okay as well. Nothing special.. Overall, just a mid experience nothing really special about this place. read more

I like this place. The staff was friendly. The location is great. I think the staff could do a little bit better job of checking the front to make sure that people aren't waiting because it's a little confusing when you try to check in how you have to walk into the restaurant. We ordered the Walnut pesto which honestly was a little disappointing. It kind of lacked the zing that I'm hoping for when I eat a pesto. We also got the steak with chimichurri which was pretty good and the fries were also pretty good. The cocktails were good. Overall it was a pleasant experience. I just think that for the price I'm expecting the food to wow me more. I think they can refine their recipes more for sure. read more

Three and a half stars for the food for Sunday brunch. We had the salmon, which was a little overcooked (see my photo) but had a nice crispy top and otherwise, had great flavors in the sauce, puree, and couscous. When the server asked me how the food was, I told him and showed him that the fish was overcooked. He sort of apologized and said it was rush lots of dishes and brushed it off. The fish sandwich was okay--funny that the crust is gluten free but the brioche bun was not. The relish/tapenade was pretty good. The rosemary fries were not crispy enough, kind of limp. Nice view of the ocean (and just the area) since the restaurant is on the second floor. Generous of the hostess to ask if we wanted to sit on side patio (where you do not get a view and are near the entrance) or on the main balcony area which is nicer. I am also grateful that I was able to make reservations online. read more

Beeside Balcony is upstairs above another restaurant in the same building. It was busy when we arrived but the service was good. They have a nice menu selection. The food is good and the outdoor patio seating has a nice view overlooking the street and ocean out in the distance. They turn on the space heaters when the weather is cold. This restaurant accepts the San Diego Synergy Gift Card which I purchased at Costco and makes dining here even more appealing. I recommend this restaurant for those wanting to eat at nice casual place in Del Mar. read more

The mussels were solid, but weren't anything super outstanding. For my entree, I got the octopus ($32). The octopus was yummy and tender. There was a good amount of octopus pieces. When it gets chilly in the evening they turn on the overhead heaters, and pass out blankets to those who are dining on the balcony! The view of the ocean is so nice! We enjoyed an evening at Beeside Balcony and were impressed with the attentive and friendly service, the quality of the food, and the cozy ambiance of this restaurant. They take reservations so we were able to get seated fairly quickly. There are outdoor heaters above the tables so if it's a chilly night, you should be ok under the warmth of the heaters (we felt fine). The menu has a lot of selections, we wanted to try everything, but settled on the crab cake appetizer, and split the scallops and octopus which were really excellent. We also had a side of the beets that were good. Parking was easy on the street right outside but might be a challenge if it's a busy time. We may have just gotten lucky as it was a Saturday evening around 5:30 or so. The portion sizes are on the medium size for dishes like what we ordered, so if you are really starving, you may need to order more or get some of their heartier options. ----TL;DR---- PROS: great flavors, service, and high quality food that you can tell has been carefully prepared. Good location (we didn't see the sunset or ocean view since it was dark but I'm sure it's beautiful. CONS: portion sizes are not huge but each bite is great.
