The bartender made a clear, intentional display that we could wait until he failed his flirting exploits with the women he was "serving". The best thing about out dining experience was our server Michael D, he was really good. Our ten minute suggested wait time turned into a 45 minute wait. It was 2:30 in the afternoon, capacity was half-filled at best. During this wait it is hard not to think the 5 employees chit chatting at the host station could maybe have done something to speed things up, but I have no idea what their responsibilities were, maybe they were not on duty. No manager in sight. You notice these things during a 45 minute wait with empty tables in sight. The main reason for two stars was that the meat in the carne and carnitas tacos was dried out. I think if there had been some juices it might have been okay. But dry meat lacks flavor and makes it hard to chew. It is hard to imagine a chef serving dry carnitas or carne, you would have to be numb to your food. The next day, by chance, I found myself at another Mexican restaurant. I had one of the tastiest, juiciest, tender carnitas tacos ever (and can't wait to go back). It prompted me to write this review as the difference was so striking (not going back to BelAir). I was pleasantly surprised by this Bel Air location. I was here on Cinco de Mayo with a fairly large group (10-12) and I expected a complete shitshow which would be understandable. Honestly, our server was outstanding - she was busy but never neglected us which was super impressive (especially on Cinco de Mayo). They had fun mariachi bands too. I have been going to this location since it opened YEARS ago, and the quality of the food has gotten awful. Carne asada tacos have been all fat the last 4 times I have gone. Manager is so lazy and does not problem solve. I would recommend any other location over this one. Additionally, servers never know which tables are there's so you will wait a long time for somone to even come to your table. Stopped by early this evening with my family. The place is very large, complete with a very long bar that extends down, and has a beautiful view from the outside. Although we were a table of 10 our service was very satisfactory. Our waiter was at our table in minutes, and whenever our drinks needed replenishing they were done so instantly. I went with a house margarita to accompany my spicy pollo burrito. The serving size was very generous but the flavor lacked in general. I was expecting the sauce to be a lot more spicy, but felt it was watered down. The chips and salsa were delicious as three types of salsas can be used for dipping--great variety. I love their tacos! Funky flavors and unique flavor combinations. I'm especially a fan of the jalapeño popper taco (whole fresh jalapeño wrapped in bacon!) and the chihuahua cheese and bean is griddled to be entirely made of the best crispy cheese bits that fall off onto the grill! Sometimes you get a sign that your about to have a bad experience but you hope for the best and try it any way. I need to learn to take the sign and just walk away. First time at this establishment on an afternoon when it wasn't very busy. While waiting for one of the 7 people chatting behind the hostess stand to seat us a man came in from outside and complained that he had been sitting outside for 20 minutes and no one had come the table or acknowledged them. That's when I should have turned and left but stayed and was seated moments later. It wasn't too long and a server came and we ordered a draft and a margarita. The server came shortly thereafter and informed us that they were out of the tequila to make that particular margarita. Tried to order the margarita flight but they couldn't do that as well. Ordered a different margarita and some chips with salsa and a quesadilla. The chips came moments later, (bottom of the bag) and the quesadilla followed soon after. Fast forward, the appetizers were almost gone by the time the draft and the margarita came. I give them props because the chips had good flavor and the margarita when it finally came, was delicious. The food here is mediocre and they will trick you into charging you for things that you do not realize you're being charged for. When we were seated, the waitress came over and was ready to take our drink order. She asked if we would like chips and salsa and we said sure but she never once stated that there would be a charge for them. She made it seem as if those were complimentary like they are at most places so we are very surprised and disappointed to see that we were charged for them. If you do not like overly spicy sauces with your chips this is not the place for you. Neither my son nor myself could have any of the three sauces they brought out because they were very spicy. We asked if they had any mild sauces and she stated that they did not have any sauces other than what was brought out. After the chips were brought out she brought our drinks. I ordered a root beer to drink and on the menu at stated it was a bottle of root beer so that was what I was expecting however she brought out a can of root beer and for whatever reason I decided to open it prior to bringing it out. When my son got his drink, it came in a kid's cup but she did not leave a straw. Thankfully I had a straw my purse for him to use. The food was mediocre and barley warm. Started off with a Michelada, with a modelo beer. The first one I've had it was good. Sour and a spicy but tasting. It was a busy evening so there was a few minute wait but we were seat fast. Chips and salsa refills are repeated charges. $78 bucks for 4 drinks, two orders of salsas with chips and a 3 tacos plate. Ok, it was good but expensive for this. I absolutely love the Bel Air Cantina in downtown Madison, and this was my first time trying one of their other locations. I had a great experience and the food was very consistent to what I've gotten at their other location. My first impression of this place was that it was huge!! I'm not kidding when I say it's three times the size of the one in Madison. I came on a Tuesday at around 6pm and was expecting it to be busy so the hour wait didn't really faze me, but keep the wait in mind if you're planning to come on a Tuesday or Thursday. Our server could have been a little more attentive but it was very busy and there was a lot going on, and he was friendly nevertheless. This restaurant is located in the Corners of Brookfield, which is an absolutely adorable area and you can walk around and visit a few shops while you wait for a table. VerdicTL;DR: Impeccable service, and impeccably bad food. Stay far, far away. BelAir Cantina is a local chain, with locations in multiple cities in Wisconsin. I generally like such chains -- they often are able to maintain some semblance of quality while they expand. Of course, the moment chains get too big, they start cutting serious corners and the reason why the original place was so good gets completely lost. Unfortunately, this appears to be what happened to BelAir Cantina. Let's get the first of two positives out of the way: Luis A was one of the best servers I have ever met. He was professional, he guided us through every step of our journey at BelAir Cantina, and his timing was always impeccable. He deserves to be recognized for the wonderful service he provided, and indeed I feel kind of sorry that I'm writing a negative review of the restaurant as a whole because his service was *just that good*. But unfortunately, BelAir Cantina is a restaurant that serves food, not just the hospitality of its waitstaff. And in this arena, BelAir Cantina falls hideously short. Let's start with the salsa that came with our chips -- three different kinds, all of which were equally bland and tasteless. It takes a special kind of talent indeed to create a salsa that, well, tastes like nothing. And it goes without saying that this isn't the kind of talent you want planning or making your meals. Next, let's talk about the Korean Beef taco. First of all, there were unforced technical errors: the steak was cut with, and not against, the grain -- resulting in a chewy, gristly mess. The steak was also clearly overcooked, and the internal muscle fibers were clearly well-done to the point of being nearly burnt. This isn't how you cook beef, either in the Mexican or in the Korean tradition. Then there were the errors inherent in the dish itself. The marinade for the beef isn't Korean at all, and doesn't taste Korean (or remotely good) to this, well, native-born Korean. The ratios are just completely off and the beef was not marinated for long enough. The toppings aren't a good match for any Korean fusion taco, and as a whole the taco (just like the salsa) lacked flavor. And for any food that pretends to be Korean ... that's just criminal. Korean flavors are punch-you-in-the-face strong, and there have been many places that have demonstrated their ability to make a better Korean fusion taco than this place did. The Ninja Pig was ... unfortunate. I don't know how it is that you can cook pork belly in a way that can make it chewy and tough, but BelAir Cantina managed to do it. Congratulations. The hoisin-based sauce was also overwhelmingly and inappropriately sweet. As for the entire package, it tasted like some well-meaning white person's idea of what a Chinese pork bun fusion taco might taste like, wrapped in double layers of incompetence and regret. Stay far, far away. My daughter ordered a quesadilla with steak. She instead got a quesadilla with ground beef. Given the sheer technical incompetence of the kitchen staff with regard to the cooking of steak, though, I am absolutely thankful that this mistake was made. My daughter also, unfortunately, felt that the quesadilla was so poorly executed that she could not take more than three bites. Finally, I end with the drinks. This was the second of two positives: they were all wonderful. The bar staff is clearly as competent as the kitchen staff is incompetent. We would come back here for the drinks alone, but only the drinks. The food is beyond salvation. In conclusion, -9 stars for the food; +5 stars for Luis A; +5 stars for the drinks. 1 star overall. read more

The portions are generous (amount of shrimp in the shrimp bowl is enough to allow at least one shrimp per spoonful) and the taste is top-notch. My girls and I went there on a Thursday night. They had live music outside. That was nice. We sat outside at a table that was awfully close to another table, almost too close for comfort. We ordered chips and salsa to start. The chips were delicious, but the 3 kinds of salsa were too weird for our tastes. The lime green was the best, but we kept asking ourselves why they didn't also have just plain salsa. For dinners, I have 3 different Vegetarian tacos, One of my daughters had 3 vegan tacos and the other had a beef bowl. The ingredients in each dish were well thought out, and the flavors worked well together, but they lacked flair. They tasted bland like there was no seasoning on anything. That was really disappointing. The service was also short. Now I know it's because they are probably understaffed, like every place right now, so I didn't dock them in the rating for the service. I did tip well (26%) because I know how hard it is right now to work in an understaffed situation. We all rated them a solid 6 out of 10. We won't go back. The lack of seasoning was enough to tell us to go try something else. read more

I ordered the pick 3 tacos with a side of rice and extra rice AND OH MY GOODNESS! If you're looking for diversity and a crowd pleaser this is def. a must! Super easy to order from and decent descriptions. I order the pollo verde, carne asada, and the shrimp tacos. My ONLY complaint was dryness. Just a tiny bit dry, but it didn't take away from the flavors! You have to order the Fundido cheese dip, even a side portion, bc it really just topped everything off!! read more

So is it just me or do others scratch their head as to why this local chain is so popular????? I've been to a couple of their other locations and always come away thinking and usually grumbling, "meh, it was just okay, nothing special." But....my mom taught me to be nice and be positive so here goes... The interior is pretty cool: high ceilings and clean lines. Good sized bar. The patio is going to be a great spot in summer for margaritas, apps and people watching Parking is pretty easy here with the surface lot, street parking and the underground spacious parking garage. They have good margaritas. The chips and salsa are pretty good and I like the trio of salsa options that you get. read more

Stopped in for lunch dining solo with a book to read. I've eaten here often, this is one of the places that has raised their game lately. This was a standard 3 star stop but it has clearly gotten better based on my last couple visits. The staff was busy as the restaurant was hopping for lunch but they worked well as a team to keep things moving. My chips and salsa arrived warm and tasty. I've done so many review updates on this place I feel like I've been married to it for years. So many ups and downs lol This place has stepped its game back up and I feel like they deserve some love. The servers still are slow... like painfully slow...and haven't really changed much but I've found the solution. Sit at the bar!!! All the bartenders are on top of there game drink wise and server wise. They get you your food fast and get the you food correctly ordered. They are always busy and still give way better service than any waiter. I think people are catching on because even families are starting to sit at the bar. 10000 stars for the bartenders because they brought Belair back into my life and I go once a week now! Props to the kitchen crew as well, I'm vegan now and all the vegan tacos I get (I'll do fish too on cheat days here like the mahi mahi taco) are fresh and are made full! Today our family stopped at Bel Air for a quick brunch after the Memorial Day parade. We brought family from Chicago and had a total party of 9 including 3 children under 6. While we were seated promptly outside, we did not receive our food with such speed. We waited over 90 minutes for our meal, and it was not peak lunch time. Before receiving our food, our waitress visited back twice asking questions about the specifics of our order. She never acknowledged the delay or mentioned any issues. As you can imagine, the children were hungry and anxious by the time food arrived. 2 of their orders were made incorrectly. After waiting so long the food was less than satisfying. After completing our meals, we waited EVEN LONGER for the check. I will not be returning to this Bel Air and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone either. So disappointed! read more

So, I've been to every other Bel Air in Wisconsin now. If you build more, I'll show up. This was our first time at this particular location, which I believe is the newest one. Being Taco Tuesday, it was slammed, as expected. Expect a decent wait time during peak hours (we were told 55 minutes for a table of 2 but were seated rather quickly - about 25 minutes in). Got the usual order of carne asada and Baja tilapia tacos with some guacamole, and it was all excellent as always. We did wait a little longer than usual for the food to come out, and there were a few hiccups with our order when it first arrived, but our server was incredibly busy like I said and still got everything sorted out for us quickly. Overall, I think this location is just a little busier than it's sister restaurants at the moment given that it's a bit newer than them, maybe? If you like the other locations' food then you'll obviously like it here. Just expect a little more congestion. read more
