Belfairs Woods is a dog walkers paradise and it is also great for those who love to go for a run or bike ride as it's quite flat.
I often visit the woods especially during the Autumn months where there is a wealth of conkers for kids to collect. During the summer the walk through the woods can be quite perilous if you happen to be carrying an empty carrier bag, as the squirrels expect to be fed, even though there are signs saying do not feed them, however if you can dodge the beady stare of a grey squirrel near the entrance points of the woods you shouldn't get harassed too much.
Within the woods is a golf course and if you hear the word 'fore' keep your wits about you as a stray golf ball could be heading your way. As this is not a strange occurrence, many balls are lost in the woods and it can be a great source of fun getting the kids to look for them, a bit like an Easter Egg hunt.
It's also nice to see the horse's trotting through the woods, they do have their designated route so try to stay off it and you won't get trampled and at the entrance of the woods, if your kid's want a ride on a pony you can let them have a go for a pound, I think it's only on Saturday/Sunday mornings though, but the little ones love it.
There is also a restaurant at the beginning of the woods which serve a variety of fare and if you sit outside they normally have bouncy castles for the kids, plus they do ice-cream and lollies.
Next to the restaurant is two tennis courts, yes they have seen better days, but for a free knockabout game it suits its purpose, in the summer or Wimbledon week it is a wait your turn affair.
If you like to play golf you have the main golf course and for those with family in tow try out the pitch and putt, you can rent the clubs from the golf shop and you get a ball each, pencil and scorecard.
