The views are fantastic as the Ospreys dive in for food in the expansive backyard pond. I can't say much about the food as this was my first visit. The French Onion soup was phenomenal. Came here for a bridal shower. The back room overlooking the water was so pretty. They opened the sides to let some air in. They had a great area for a balloon arch and gifts to be placed. The room was on the smaller side if you have a lot of guests. Food took a very long time to come out. It started at 12 and no food came out until 2:30 or later. I had to leave before I could eat so I'm unable to add more. Staff seems nice. read more

Quaint, cozy atmosphere. Friendly owner & bartender greets u. However, this place hasn't changed much over the decades. They have their local wealthy old timers that are well to do but, don't like to travel far. So, this is their spot. Sat us down in view of the pond out back. I hate to be a PIA but, if that's your main view outside of your restaurant, you really shouldn't store a plastic cooler right outside the window as well as have frozen debris strewn around the edge of the pond. There was also a small tree limb that had cracked and was just dangling there off the tree into the water. Again, you're trying to be a high-end restaurant and are charging as such, you could invest a few minutes to straighten up the view out your main dining area window. Food is ok but, extremely small portions. I had the sea bass over risotto, $50. It was a 3 or 4" square filet. Not a good value at all. My French onion soup was EXACTLY served diner style. Little brown crock and all. Nothing that reflects a higher end restaurant. We were given two small rolls in a bread basket. It just comes off as cheap. We ate the one roll ration apiece while we were waiting for our orders. The bus girl asked us if we would like more? We were grateful that she was paying more attention than our waiter. The waiter was pleasant but, not very attentive. Never looking or asked us if we'd like another drink. It seems that the ocal diehards are enough to keep them afloat (barely). So, they raise the prices, trim the portions back and hire a passable wait staff. Hopefully, someone is gonna do something special with this great location. read more

After a long beautiful sunny day at the beach on Fire Island, my friend and I wanted to eat the best cuisine the island has to offer - Italian. We looked at many places but Bella Vie stood out, and I am so happy we went here. From the outside, this is an unassuming place but as soon as you enter the restaurant, the classy bar and water-side seating and outside patio takes your breath away. The restaurant is truly reminiscent of a little oasis. Perfect for a classy dinner with family or friends or a nice date with lovely company. Staff was super kind from the get go. Everyone came and talked to us and we loved our conversations. I started with a glass of cabarnet, my friend ordered the tiramisu martini which was to die for and absolutely delicious. Bread was free flowing - it was hot and fresh and appropriately baked with some garlic butter on top. I've never ate so much bread in one sitting. For appetizers we ordered baked clams and grilled Spanish octopus. The clams came swimming in a bright lemon sauce that accompanied the seafood very well. Clams were fresh against the savory, herby background of Italian breadcrumbs. The octopus was prepared beautifully with just the right amount of crispy char but so tender and soft inside. It was paired with a sprinkle of potatoes, tomatoes and onions and a drizzle of balsamic - a first for me with octopus but the flavors were absolutely on point. Then came our entrees. My friends clam linguine was absolutely delicious - they did not skimp on the meat at all and the sauce was bright and delicious. Linguine was cooked perfectly el dente and the clams were fresh and delicious. I ended up ordering the truffle gnocchi. It was a dream in a plate. Buttery, pillowy gnocchi with generous shavings of parmesan cheese. The sauce with the truffle was to die for and absolutely phenomenal. The bits of caramelized onions were culinary genius - offering a sweet contrast to the savory rich sauce. I really enjoyed this dish and wiped my plate clean. We finished our meal with the classic tiramisu, which cane with a generous serving of whipped cream on top. The tiramisu was light and refreshing, ladyfingers soaked through which I appreciated a lot. The mascarpone was not too sweet and the choc syrup topping adding an extra umph which I loved. We even got to meet the owner Mike who asked us how we liked our food. Overall this was a wonderful experience and I really think this place is a hidden gem worthy of a visit! I had a lovely lunch at Bella Vie last week with friends. We came during lunch so we were able to take advantage of the lunch special. There were many choices but I opted for the Chicken Saltimbocca, while friends both had the Chicken Marsala. All agreed the food was delicious. We were seated adjacent to the window and enjoyed the view of the ducks swimming in Lawrence Lake. The waiter was attentive and didn't press us for dessert once we said we'll pass. Windcrest Community in BayShore had a ladies lunch (pre-fix menu), 25 ladies attended. The private room accommodated everyone comfortably and Rob (waiter) was efficient and patient with our party of 25. Soup of the day was Split Pea with ham. I opted for the salmon with mixed vegetables and potatoes...yummy, healthy meal. The setting was lovely overlooking the water. Michael, the owner, goes out of his way to make you comfortable, and welcome. Richie, the Waiter, and the food runner, never got his name, never stopped trying to make us happy.... It was never obnoxious, or hovering, but they dutifully asked us, numerous times, more black pepper, salad dressing okay? more parmesan cheese? Who needs more water?. Drinks okay ? The owner also stopped by a few times to check, as well... There's not a bad seat in the house, as you look over Lawrence Lake. It is one of the most bucolic views, on Long Island There's a small, intimate bar, where you can also overlook the lake, and relax before, or after dinner Prices at the bar are more than reasonable. I didn't catch what others paid for their drinks, but my Malbec, was $13 They have a few prix fixe options, but we took advantage of the $22 lunch special.... Soup, or salad, and an Entree.. I always go with their Lentil soup, as I think it is one of the best around. Since I've had their excellent hamburger the last 3 times I was there, I figured I'd try something else. I went with the Gnocchi.alla Bava.. which was a creamy Fontina Sauce... Went to Bella Vie for the prix fix lunch with a couple of girlfriends. The menu had multiple items to choose from. My girlfriends had the soup of the day -- butternut squash and loved it. I had the side salad very fresh and delicious. All three of us had the flounder oregnata. I'm gluten free so I asked for grilled. They were very accommodating. Service and food were great! How Bell Vie almost ruined Christmas. We had Christmas Eve reservations for nine people. We get there to find out we are seated off some side of the building in a room full of space heaters and flood lights. The room suffered from terrible drafts. Our table, or should we call them four separate tables pushed together were so wobbly. You honestly could not lean on one table without spilling over your drink. They knew how many people we had yet the table was still missing three settings. We sat for at least twenty mins before someone came but to take a drink order but we couldn't because we still didn't have any menus. When they finally brought out the menus, we never received the specials, they brought out six menus , three too short. Someone ordered a Jameson on the rocks. What came out was clearly not Jameson but watered down well whiskey and half melted ice. It was sent back and replaced with the same. Some of us got a second round of drinks. Most did not because they never followed on our drinks. We ordered some appetizers. Waiter came back, they are out of mussels, so we order some crab cakes, waiter comes back, all out of those too. The baked clams were essentially little neck, six tiny clams drowning in a broth. Two hours later our meals finally arrived, well after others around us who arrived later were served. the chicken parm was supposed to be served over spaghetti but what we received was penne in what tasted like a watered down jar of sauce. The mash potatoes tasted like the powder form. No sauce with the steak. The mixed veggies were cold. The portions of everything was very small. We sat waiting for the waiter to ask for another round of drinks or ask how dinner was. I had to stand up and look around for attention. I asked for the check, the waiter never offered us dessert, not like we were even going to entertain that. The check arrives and we are told four drinks were on the house. We never complained once, they must have known it was an awful experience. I can write more, but I won't even bother wasting my time. This was incredibly disappointing. We had high hopes but even those would've been easy to satisfy. Needless to say, no chance we will ever return and an even greater chance that we will discourage anyone else from doing the same. My fiancé found this place for a date night, and it was a great choice. We did park on the street, kinda unsafe if you're across the street - I'm unsure if they had a parking lot. The inside is very romantic. The bread they give you for free as an appetizer was great. I got french onion soup which was also delicious. Then for our meals, I got the gnocci which was really great and filling. I expected this type of place to have barely anything on the plate, but they gave us a decent serving. The chocolate cake I got for dessert was also good! The owner, Mike, came around to each table and really had great conversation with everyone, and asking how we enjoyed the food. Our blonde waitress was fantastic and friendly. Our whole experience there was probably one of the best dates we've had. They really have a great view off the water as well. It is pretty cool that the owner makes his own wine that he tells you about. After dinner, we sat at the bar and had one drink and left. Even the bartender was the friendliest. This was one of the worst restaurant experience my family and I have ever had. It was a Friday night and many of the restaurants were either too full and no longer taking rsvp's, or they had long wait times. This was the only restaurant that had [immediate] availability. So, I brought my family here, a decision I quickly came to regret. When we arrived, the restaurant was mostly empty. We were seated in a corner near where the staff enter and exit the kitchen. We ordered a dozen oysters; and one or two of them were rotten. The served barely came to our table during that time to see if we needed anything, or to update us on the wait. All we ordered was a salad, fish, and gnocchi. Somehow, the restaurant messed up the salad. My mother, who ordered sea bass, was served Chicken Scarpariello (or some similar dish). My gnocchi arrived and was starchy, glue-like and almost inedible. We called a manager, and his solution was to offer us a free dessert. That's it. My salad was a nice size, the croutons seem freshly made, nice touch. The veal comes to me. There is a huge mound of mozzarella salad on top of the veal? And if there is one thing I hate is a sweet-sticky balsamic drizzle over everything. The veal chop coating is overcooked with some of the edges close to burnt. My date got the lobster special stuffed with shrimp and crabmeat-I've never had lobster before so I can't compare it to anything but I thought it was good, the crab meat was a little too fishy for me though. Was invited back for dinner by server Jesse and manager Mike. What an absolutely delicious dinner from start to finish! I came back with my mom on a Wednesday night. We were greeted instantly and brought to a table by the window, overlooking the water and the duckies! Great view. Jesse came over and introduced himself, brought out fresh bread and butter and told us the specials of the night. He asked us if we had any questions about the menu. I asked him if a dish can be made with chicken instead of veal as it is described on the menu. He came back fairly quickly and told me I can indeed have the dish I inquired about with chicken. The fresh bread was delicious. I loved the crunch aspect. With a little drizzle of olive oil, it's the perfect marriage. For an appetizer my mom and I decided to share fresh tomato and mozzarella with roasted peppers. Absolutely delicious! It had a nice balsamic finish and we had some fresh cracked pepper with it. Mmmmm good. Party in my mouth and belly! Before our entrees came out another worker came by and took a crumber to clean whatever crumbs were on the table from the bread. For my entree I got chicken pizzaiola. As stated above, the menu lists this dish as veal pizzaiola. I was very happy when I was able to get it with chicken. It was cooked in a nice tomato sauce with roasted peppers and some olives, and then topped with mozzarella. The party in my mouth and belly continued. It was served in a cast iron type pan, which kept my food hot throughout the entire meal. It came with mashed potatoes, which were tasty as well. My mom ordered skirt steak. It came with sautéed spinach, crispy onions and the most delicious truffle fries! It was served with a cheese type sauce that was delicious. My mom enjoyed her meal, and was a member of the clean plate club! For dessert were surprised with delicious chocolate cake. Very rich and chocolatey...but amazingly yummy! Service and food was exceptional, and a complete 360 turnaround from my previous experience here. Jesse is a fabulous server and continued to check on my mother and I if we needed anything. We will be moving to Bay Shore in a few months, so my fiancé and I have been trying out some spots in our new town. We passed through Main Street and saw Bella Vie at the end of town. Funny enough, my fiancé went to a bridal shower there a few weeks back, where she was impressed with not only the food, but the amazing view. We went out for dinner last Friday night, and we had such a great time. The view is beautiful from any seat in the restaurant. We ordered the Burrata / Prosciutto appetizer from the specials, that was delicious. For dinner, my fiancé ordered rigatoni Ala vodka with grilled shrimp. She orders Ala vodka almost every time it's on a menu, and she said this was the best she's had. That's very high praise, so she's super excited it's in the town we will be living in. I ordered the skirt steak. It was a nice portion, and it came with mixed vegetables and a small side of rustic fries. My steak was cooked perfectly for what I ordered (Med rare). The only thing I didn't care for was the little fried onions on top, they were hard. We split a piece of cheesecake for dessert, and that was also delicious. Everything is fairly priced, and was actually surprised when we received the bill. It was lower than what we normally pay for an Italian restaurant. The service was great, the staff was friendly, and it's such a nice little spot. This is a place we are looking forward to bringing family and friends when they come to visit. read more

Our 2nd Visit Review We were a little disappointed with the entire food service last night. We weren't sure if the waitress was new or overwhelmed. We were sat next to the kitchen with everyone coming in & out, not to mention a Big party of about twenty people in that small room. Very undesirable table and we had reservations. But of course you make the best of it. We were disappointed when we ordered red wine which was served in hot glasses but the cocktails were awesome. We started off with salads which were delicious & served in a cold plate. For dinner we ordered the Veal Pizzaiola which served in a skillet & wasn't served with any side dishes. The Salmon was delicious. The Lamb Chops were tender but dry. We were looking forward to end the meal with a delicious hot Lava Cake but that never happened. I had to send it back the Cake was served cold and the inside was still frozen. Hopefully next time back is better. read more

4 years ago, I posted an honest review about the service, or lack thereof. Fast forward to now. Restaurant was fairly busy, but when we were seated, all the tables had already been served their meals. We, a party of 3, ordered appetizers-2 orders of bouratta and 1 stuffed mushrooms. Please explain why it took 55 minutes to deliver the appetizers. The bouratta was cold and the mushrooms were overcooked. Why did I have to chase the waiter down twice to refill our water glasses. Why was the spinach ravioli undercooked. Basically, four years later, and my opinion hasn't changed. The nearly $300 bill was not worth the sub-par service and sub-par food. I won't be back!! Views for days! And the service! Upon arriving at Bella Vie for their unbeatable $25 pre fixe lunch special, the promptness and professionalism of the service is a pleasure. There were no overly friendly frills, mostly business and incredible food. The lunch menu offered extensive choices and a more interesting edge than traditional overused Italian food. I opted for a rich, filling portion of gnocchi that would put any dinner to shame. This lunch was truly a treat, and I'm smiling at the memory of the experience. Long Island Restaurant Week Review: Tried out Bella Vie in Bay Shore. From start to finish, my first experience here was amazing! Located in Bay Shore and situated on a lake, this restaurant is gorgeous! A weird side note, they don't have a parking lot. You'll need to find a spot on the street. They have street parking on both sides of the street, but you might have to walk across a busy road. Everything was well spaced out. I love that they have hand sanitizer bottles on each table! All the staff were wearing masks. I was able to make a reservation on OpenTable which is a plus. Inside, the restaurant is gorgeous! The decor is so pretty. I really loved the quaint but elegant feel I got here. I was given what I like to think is the best seat in the house. We were able to look out at the lake and watch the sunset. They also have a tent outdoors with seating if you'd like to remain outdoors during these times. During the summer, I'm sure it's beautiful to sit out and look at the lake. The prices were great on both the RW menu and the regular menu. There are no substitutions on the RW menu. The only thing I was disappointed in was the choice for dessert. The only option was a tiny piece of NY cheesecake. We took them home and opted to eat a better dessert in house, but we had to pay full price! The service was some of the best I've ever received! Our server Lindsay was so friendly and very knowledgeable about the menu! They was super attentive. My water glass kept being refilled and even offered us more bread. Lindsay checked on our table frequently. In fact, all of the staff here were excellent! The ticket times were a bit long, but I was just enjoying my view and relaxing, so I didn't mind. The food...YUM! I ordered from both the RW menu, and the regular one. The portions were not huge, but I did leave satisfied. I also really enjoyed the zucchini. The honey chipotle sauce was fantastic! 5 out of 5 stars -Caesar Salad (RW App): Perfect portion with very fresh ingredients. 5 out of 5 stars -Gnocchi Alla Bava (RW Entree): Nice sized portion of delicious gnocchi. If you're a huge fan of truffle like myself, this is a must order. I took my gf here for her birthday and it was absolutely perfect. The restaurant is beautiful along with the gorgeous views of the water. The food was delicious. We both did the pre fixed menu and shared everything. We got the stuffed mushrooms and the Caesar salad. The stuffed mushrooms were out of this world. We also added on baked clams since we get these whenever we get Italian. They weren't our favorite since they were very breadcrumby which made them dry. For our entree, we got the gnocchi dish and the short rib. The sauce on the short rib was so delicious. Both dishes were excellent. For drinks, my gf got the Bella vie martini and I got the Italian margarita and both of them were perfect. The pre fix menu also comes with dessert, so we got one of each. We stumbled upon this hidden gem during my sister in laws girlfriends birthday. The original place she wanted to go to didn't serve lunch on Mondays or Tuesdays. She had found this place on a google search for Italian places near me. We pulled up to this cottage quaint looking building. Very nice curb appeal to start. Although there isn't a parking lot there is plenty of street parking available so that's a non issue. Once inside, it was sparkling clean, yet homey. First appearances are important. Staff extremely welcoming and friendly and pretty sure authentic Italian. So now the true test, the actual food. Let's not forget Lawrence lake which is situated right behind this establishment which provides for a beautiful view. So far everything we've had on the menu is AMAZING. everything from the salads to the main courses and dessert. This was only 2 weeks ago and we've been back 4 times. Every time trying something new on the menu. We are definitely loyal to this lovely restaurant. Staff accommodating and efficient. I was trying to find someplace nice to take my close friend out for her birthday and decided to give this a try. They have an amazing lunch special for $22 that we took advantage of. Both of our dishes were absolutely delicious! The wait staff was friendly and attentive. It is on a really pretty lake too! I will for sure try this for dinner with my husband.
