its a burger... nothing special. toppings were fresh. no wilty lettuce. i recommend the raspberry lime rickey... french fries not the best... they seem fresh cut but were greasy and limp and too salty on the day i went. the burger prices are from $ 6 - 8 dollars. fries are like $2 and change. and drinks $2 ish so its just barely at the $10 for one person to eat. I'm pregnant and have never craved burgers in my life until now. Before pregnancy, a burger to me was the regular hamburgers/cheeseburgers at McDonald's, and I would only have them a few times a year. Since getting pregnant, I have had 4 burgers, all from different places. I had been to Wild Willy's before, probably 2 or 3 times in the past 7 years. Today was my 4th time. I ordered the "Wicked Good" which contained sauteed onions and mushrooms with Swiss and cheddar cheeses, a small fry, and a raspberry lime rickey. My bill came to just over $13.00. It's definitely kind of pricey. The burger was cooked perfectly through - well done, since I'm pregnant - and not burnt at all. I realized that they have some skills back there in that kitchen! I've gone to actual sit down places were my burger came to me slightly charred on the outside and slightly rare on the inside. I felt very safe eating this burger. However, it lacked any flavor, even with the toppings. Actually, the toppings seemed to have more flavor than the beef itself. The fries were nicely salted and better than the first time I went there. When they first opened, their fries were on the soggy side, and the counter people said that it was due to the handcut nature and juice from the fresh potatoes. I see on the menu that the fries are now twice-fried, giving it a crispier texture. The raspberry lime rickey was delicious, and I would definitely come again just to get that drink! Overall, the meal was okay, but lacked depth of flavor. I was sitting there thinking that it must be their selling point right, that they want you to taste the natural flavors of the beef? If it isn't in their corporate mission, then they should definitely include it b/c that seems to me to be what they are selling, the natural flavor of beef without any seasoning. Came here on a Sunday afternoon to grab lunch. The place was relatively quiet and we didn't have a problem finding a table. I thought the burger tasted great. It had everything that I was looking for. I wouldn't say it was the "best" burger that I've ever had in my life, but not bad either! read more

Wild Willy's Burgers are the best in the city, and possible the best on the East Coast. Period. I can't say much for the rest of the East Coast without having been to all the states here yet, but I bet Wild Willy's would still win. Their burgers are delicious. The original Wild Willy is huge and cooked to order with fresh ingredients and the juiciest burger, all on a fresh, soft bun. The fiance always gets the Mustang burger, which involves sauteed mushrooms and horseradish and is also very delicious. They get messy, no doubt about it, but the bathrooms are squeaky clean and well suited for a thorough clean up. Their fries remind me of my beloved In N Out, which is the highest compliment I can give, and their rings are lightly battered and not too greasy so you don't lose out on the flavor. They have a really yummy root beer, and their raspberry lime rickeys are great but you can also get beer, which you wouldn't think possible upon walking in to the family-friendly environment. There is a counter area where you can sit on a saddle and their booths are roomy and good for spreading out to attack your burger and the staff manages to keep the dining room squeaky clean even if your face doesn't stay that way. Their prices are a little on the steep side - two burgers with two sides and a couple drinks will run you about $30, but since it would be sinful to indulge in such a yummy, messy burger more than once a month or so, the price seems to make itself worth it. read more

Usually great food but terrible service from impatient employees. Was rushed in my service and denied a frappe due to them cleaning machine 25 minutes or so before closing . Also felt very disrespected by employees by them staring and giving snuck looks while me and my family ate . Use to be my favorite place to bring both my sons . Great burgers! Fast food style but made to order then delivered to your numbered table. And as good as any burger I've had anywhere. Decent bang for the buck, all the burgers are 6 to 7 bucks and include toppings. Free re-fills on the iced tea, tasted home made and delicious. Thought the fries were great, a bit pricey but fresh thick cut and a decent portion. The salad with grilled chicken also came with a nice portion and other than a tiny bit of grit on the first bite of veggie was way better than the kind you get at any other fast food joint. They have wine and beer and a supposedly great root beer, all reasaonably priced. Cute clean chuck wagon themed atmosphere, not fancy but cozy comfy. Prices that won't break the bank insure a way way better place than the other "burger?" stores everybody loves to hate! read more

Went here Friday night for dinner with a friend, he wanted a burger and he chose this place. I have eaten here before, this was his first time...said it was one of the best burgers he has ever eaten; you gotta get out more lovey!! Anyway, I am the biggest burger fan EVER, I like that the meat is fresh and I can get it cooked the way I like it, but I DO NOT like that it is not hand-formed, I know, not really something to b**ch about, but it matters to me. Anyway, he got the All American burger and fries, I got the BBQ Bubba or something like that....wasn't cooked totally med-rare, but better than some places and it was juicy. Yee-Haw! I'm on my way to Wild Willy's Burgers to get me some grub. A bubba bbq burger or a classic willy burger with a side of fries and the best damn chocolate frappe I've had in a long long time is in my radar. I like how the bbq drips from the burger and the smoky bacon and cheese get smooshed together. The fries are crisp and salty. I love that Wild Willy's uses Giffords Ice Cream which originates from Maine. They also have awesome old fashioned root beer and fresh brewed iced tea. Oh, did I mention they serve beer? Yup they got beer if you're buying food. What more could you want, kitchy getup, fairly cheap but tasty food and a wide variety of beverage options. Service...well it's a step above a fast food restaurant and I don't go to Wild Willy's for their service. I go for the burgers and fries and frappes. read more

Their homemade root beer is delicious as well. Last time I was there, the woman at the cashier was so friendly towards me and my family. I've lived in Waltham for 6 years and always drove by because I thought it looked cheesy and hokey. Boy was I wrong. My green chili burger was cooked exactly how I ordered and was outstanding, along with crispy fries that complimented perfectly. I even ordered ahead by phone and was able to just duck in and out in under 3 minutes. I used to work in Watertown and for some reason my co-workers liked burgers from this place. I have had two burgers from them in my life, and will never eat there again. The only reason I had two is because I thought perhaps the first one was an anomaly. So Wild Willy's advertises burgers made fresh every day. This is a lie. Based on the rubbery texture and lousy taste of the burger, they clearly freeze the beef after it has been made into a patty, which is much worse for the quality than freezing it before making it into a patty (perhaps it was pattied that morning, and then frozen. That is still unacceptable). If you do not know the difference between the texture/taste of a frozen burger vs. a fresh one, you should learn. In my personal opinion, this is enough to merit a one star review. No burger place with any respect for itself whatsoever would ever advertise fresh and then sell frozen. For the life of me I can't understand why people like this place. I've only had them to go (and was not the one who picked them up) so maybe the atmosphere/ordering process is amazing? Maybe "to go" burgers are frozen while people that eat there are fresh? I don't know. The toppings they put on the burgers were pretty good (I had the mushroom/swiss), but that doesn't make up for a greasy, frozen 6 dollar burger. read more

This place was a major letdown. I thought it would be a fun place, full of exciting burgers to try. Their selection was disappointing, and the execution of my burger was pretty poor. I was fooled before when I ate at UBurger, which I had always liked, but with my new-found eye of a critic, ultimately I was severely disappointed. I was hoping this would not happen at my visit to Wild Willy's, which I have been to plenty of times before, it's so close to where I live I can walk there, and I have always liked it. Sometimes I think it's easier not to be so critical of things. I'm not limited to food, those who know me realize I am a critic of all things, anything is fair game, but I suppose being a professional chef gives me at least some credibility when it comes to reviewing restaurants. Sure I could just be easier, and really like everything, but then, what's the fun in that? Wild Willy's is still good, however, it was never brilliant and it still isn't, but maybe a burger doesn't have to be. They have a decent selection of burgers, but once again, they are really just slight variations on each other, not a whole lot of imagination going on here. And there's something about the cowboy feel, naming burgers after Annie Oakley and having big murals of the Old West plastered throughout that I just don't get. I mean I get it, cows and cowboys and burgers and all, but so what? To me, it's just cheesy and pretty tacky. There's always been something great and something lackluster about Wild Willy's all at the same time. The burgers are tasty, and still are, mine was cooked a perfect medium-rare and was very juicy, but still left something to be desired. I ordered a grass-fed burger, which was nice, a cleaner flavor, more pure, but also less beefy and thus less fatty. I kind of want that fat, it is a burger after all. Once again, the cheese was not fully melted. Did I miss something in culinary school? Is melting cheese an impossible task? I think not, then why is it so hard for anyone to do it properly? My bun was fine, but others at the table were not as kind, they complained of a bland bun, with no personality. The meat of course is the number one priority, but the bun has to be able to stand up to it, and for me, the meat to bun ration was off, if only just a little. The fries, as we were warned by a sign on the table, may be less crispy than expected. The reason? Because they are stored at a low temperature and because "natural sugars" make it difficult to crisp them. Again, maybe my professional training told me otherwise, but making crispy fries is not that hard. These were limp and unseasoned. I understand salt is a personal thing, but put something on them, don't just leave them naked. Wild Willy's does boast an impressive selection of tasty frappes and raspberry lime rickey's, as well as a few beers. The menu is smart, a focus on burgers, with grass fed and chicken options, hot dogs for the kids, (or if your name is Paul Delaney) fries and onion rings. Pretty straightforward, pretty tasty burgers, cooked properly, just nothing superb about it. A good place to eat for sure, but it wont blow you away. Came here yesterday and had a DELISH burger. Really - tasted amazing!!! The onion rings were AMAZING and the fries were meh. I was so in love with my meal that I wanted to move into it. Went in after a long walk and boy was I hungry. Lucky for me, Wild Willy made it happen. I started with a cup of chili before my burger and it was great - nice and meaty with veggies and spices that compliment each bite. I actually added a dash of Tabasco (which was conveniently located on the table right in front of me) to kick it up a notch and loved every second of it. The Bubba BBQ burger was also really satisfying - juicy burger, tangy sauce, and lots of bacon to make everything better. This is not a super special place to go to in my opinion. I have only been here once, but I will probably write a few check ins in the future. But based on my experience from my one visit there, its an okay place. My brother and I got chicken tenders with fries. The chicken was kind of old, they probably had it in the restaurant the entire day. However, the fries were great, I enjoyed them. But back to the chicken, it had no seasoning at all. For the life of me I cannot figure out why this place has such a high rating. I would put their burger somewhere south of Five Guys and maybe a bit higher than McDonalds. Maybe there is no competition nearby...but this was mediocre at best. It's nice that there is a choice of different beef, but the grass fed didn't taste different than what is purchased at a grocery store. Asked for medium- well and received an overcooked piece of dry leather. The cheese was not melted on the meat, but rather thrown on top with the other condiments.
