Poor Service. Failed our vehicle when it has passed at every other smog station. Emissions are fine, but we have an aftermarket catalytic converter that was installed 6-7 years ago because of theft and they did not pass it. The new cat obviously works bc emissions are fine. Still charged 165$ and now have to deal with california regs trying to get it approved. This place is expensive and uber nitpicky. They will cause headaches...move along to the next smog station read more

This mechanic does not know what a a certain ASM TEST is or doesn't READ what I needed. He says on the phone he can do the test and assured he can but when we got there he calls it a "misunderstanding". The person at front doesn't know what his doing and is incompetent. What a waste of time! *Update owner George contacts me and demands I retract my review. No way! The review is accurate and true. His explanation that we were informed that the test could not be done before hand is a complete lie! We were told on the phone and on messages that it can be done and to just come in. We even sent a sample of what we needed! His response here stated we were informed. Don't believe his lies. I have screenshots! He said we have no proof that we asked a specific test. After I sent proof of the messages the owner never responded. No apology. His mission statement about customer service is full of BS. He defends lousy service and threatens with a lawsuit. Go AHEAD! Just went to these guys for a smog check. The guys behind the counter were rude off the bat, which was fine at first as they did the Smog Check quickly, however when I went to start my car I found that it wouldn't start after they handled it. Come to find out they had broken my key and lost the transmitter but hadn't planned to tell me. After eventually having them find it for me, they told me it was my fault for not telling them the key could come apart. Bad service, lack of accountability and expensive. I'd go anywhere else but here next time. read more

Been going here for years. With multiple cars in my house, they've made well over a thousand dollars off of me. They'll also never seen another penny from me. Maybe it's all those planes flying fifty feet over their heads that makes them cranky. I was treated with such curt disdain last time I was there from the moment I approached the counter with paperwork in order and my mileage written down. I'm no stranger to this process but it seems the employee that day was looking for a fight and I was on the receiving end. Took the car over to Los Al and was in-and-out in twenty minutes. Turns out the problem was all their own making and it has cost them hundreds. read more

I'm a Vietnam Veteran with throat Cancer been going there since they were opened.Always40 dollars two years ago 60 for our Volkswagen beetle diesel.Today I ask he said 110 dollars. The younger guy working here seems to have crappy attitude. Zero eye contact, both AirPods in watching Netflix. I saw him brush someone off because they failed their smog test, gave them zero explanation as to why. The whole time he did my smog test same thing both AirPods in watching Netflix. I don't plan on coming here again. I also don't recommend anyone to bring business to this place. You're better off going across the street to ACA. I'm a Long Beach local and give my business to small businesses. If you drive by this place keep driving, ACA is across the street. I did pass my smog test but it felt like we were bothering them by providing them with business. read more

I had taken my truck here and it was my first time ever using this place for a smog. The service was not great from the start. I pulled up in front of the shop to get my truck smogged and there was no one waiting(the only good part of the whole visit). I walked up to the counter and the guy behind the counter rudely asked me if I was there for a smog and I said yes. After that, with a very rude attitude, he told me next time to park in a parking spot and not in front of the shop. He never once tried to show any kind of good vibes at all and always had an attitude when speaking to me. Also, since when does it cost $90 to smog a vehicle? Every other shop I drive past, it is no more than $60. The rudeness of the employees and the high cost of a smog compared to other places is not what I had anticipated when coming here. If you plan to smog your vehicle, don't plan on coming here to do so read more

Great place to go to get your required SMOG test done, if you live near downtown LBC. Like getting…read moredocuments notarized, the process is heavily regulated by the state, but unlike a notary, it looks like a SMOG testing center can charge what they want. So the $40 out the door (including the mandatory $8.25 fee for the certificate) is a great price. I actually found a coupon from smogtips.com for $29.95 for this space, but once you add in the extras, it came out the same...so the tech didn't even take it. The $40 is listed clearly, and it seems like it would be the same for minivans and small SUVs as well (other places seem to have extra surcharges for that). Like others said, it's easy to drive in if you are next, but if somebody is getting tested, you would need to drive into the auto repair shop driveway right after and walk back to the garage to get in line. You can only enter going South on Long Beach Blvd (since Long Beach Blvd is a divided road). There is a small waiting room with a TV showing a local station. Once our car got hooked up, it took about 15 minutes to complete. They take credit cards, and will give you a computerized Vehicle Inspection Report. Now I just need to wait for the electronic submission to be recorded at the DMV, so I can renew my registration on-line. Conclusion: the price is good, and quick once you get started. We'll come back to this place in 2 years.

My only complaint: they really need a better sign directing traffic - they have a big sign out in front, that points into their one-car garage, so if someone else is already getting a smog check (as was the case when I got there), it is completely non-obvious where to go. You actually turn into the following drive-way, which looks like it leads into a car-wash, and then park around the back of the building. Their sign out front really needs to tell people that. Once I figured out where I was going, though, super quick and easy.

The gentleman on the phone said the transmission fluid is for life unless I'm towing or carrying heavy loads. When I questioned why I see that it's recommended online he says that dealers will recommend this service all day but if you check the Toyota maintenance manual it says you don't need it. Man! I haven't even been to this shop yet and I'm already getting a good feeling about this place. It's a bit more expensive for an oil change than other places that have quoted me, but I like that they use factory parts including Toyota oil filters. Stay tuned.... 6/29/26 - Brought my Sienna in for an oil change + complimentary 30-point inspection (since it was my first time there). Jared took the van for a spin, brought it back and lifted it up. They found a little oil seepage coming out of the transfer case. I let them know that I did see a transfer case drain/fill on the CarFax report before I bought it. Jared thinks they just didn't torque it properly so they were going to retorque and clean up around the area and keep an eye on it. Worst case scenario, they would need to order a new drain plug gasket and I'd have to come back to get it replaced. Thankfully, the drain plug just needed to get tightened. I was in and out in almost exactly an hour just as Robert promised. Thanks The Toy Shop team!! Pro Tip: they are booked out at least a week in advanced so make your appointment ASAP!

I smoged my car about 3mths ago here and it failed. They offered me a free re-test but never specified how long that offer was valid for. I had to fix my catalytic converter amongst two other things that needed to be replaced per the results. Cost me close to $1,000 to repair in order to re-test. Not chump change! This place refused to give me the free re-test when i came back. The guy (David) told me it only takes 1 day to fix a car. Rude! I wasn't able to come up with an extra $1,000 in one day to repair. He offered me a discount. I had previously paid them $60 here for the initial smog, so on top of the repair expense the initial cost plus a re-test cost now. I found a place that would smog my car for 45 bucks. Bottom line is the principal here!! I had to argue my reason for taking a few months. I was also initially told that i haf to drive my car a few hundred miles before the re-test. That doesn't take a day either! Next time i will make sure to ask details when a deal or discount is oferred. Never coming back here again!! read more

Ryan helped me out and got on the phone with the first shop to get them to explain their diagnostic and to give me free a retest that day--they were just as evasive an belligerent with another automotive professional as they were with me. I have never gotten a smog check before so I decided to go here because of all the raving reviews everyone had . This place was fast!! I felt like I had only waited 15 minutes. There was a comfy couch where you can see them testing your car. The workers were really nice and funny. I also saved $10 because of the coupon posted by Elaine F. Jamal's price quote at VIP Smog was the most affordable but a little out of the way for me. Luckily I was in the area one day and decided to stop by without calling in advance. I was greeted by Jamal and he helped me right away. I gave him my DMV paperwork and within 15 minutes, my car was checked and ready to go. The shop is located on the main street of pacific and he was kind enough to reposition my car to make it easy and safe to leave the lot without having to reverse out onto oncoming traffic. Definitely check this place out when needing your next smog. Jamal is fast, efficient, and very kind! I'll be back to bring my families vehicles as well!
