This is a fun place for kids with lots of different activities, and my 4-year-old had a great time…read moreoverall. The space is large, clean, and there's plenty to keep little ones busy for a good stretch of time. That said, there were a few concerns during our visit that I think are important to mention, mainly around pricing and safety. First, admission is $20 per person, including adults. For parents who are there primarily to supervise and occasionally assist a younger child, that adds up quickly. Some of the equipment involves large mats and tubes that can be heavy for smaller kids to carry on their own, and it would be nice for parents to be able to help without needing to purchase a full-price admission for themselves. My biggest concern, however, is safety. The layout is very open, with multiple access points, and there is currently no check-in/check-out system matching children with the adults they arrived with. As it is now, someone could enter or leave with very little attention paid, and there is no wristband or stamp process that verifies that each child is leaving with their actual parent or guardian. A simple matching bracelet or stamp system would make a tremendous difference in peace of mind. While there were staff members present, several of them appeared distracted -- talking with friends or generally not paying close attention to what was happening in the play areas. They also weren't very easy to identify as staff. If parents are expected to stay off certain equipment unless they pay admission, it would really help to have clearly identifiable staff who are actively monitoring and assisting -- especially at the top of larger slides or play structures where younger kids may need help. Overall, my child enjoyed the visit, and the concept of the place is great. With stronger safety procedures at the door and more attentive, easily identifiable staff presence throughout, this could be an outstanding place for families. If you go just really keep an eye out. Hate to see anything bad happen in this place in the future

"The Run That Cares For the Runner" really does…read more And wouldn't ya know, YELP was represented too. SHOUT IT OUT for Yelper Kris R of Quilcene, WA and Santa Cruz, CA as he constructed the offical Rhody-Run website. The folks who organize this event are amazing. They even care for sixty-five year old walkers who complete the course in just over two hours. I ought to know. That would be my category. Sunday, May 11th was a beautiful Port Townsend day. Not terribly hot, not terribly cold. And absolutely no rain. Well...maybe just a sprinkle or two. We gathered on the parade grounds of Fort Worden for this annual 7.46 mile event. Almost three thousand eager beavers of all shapes, sizes and ages headed toward the starting line as the race began. Some of us (and that would include me) started in the middle group, knowing that the world-class runners would *not* like to trip over our corpulent little bodies as they streaked out over the timing pads placed across the track. Others jogged along with strollers, a few wore casts, bandaids or splints. A couple of folks had canes. Volunteers, ambulances, park rangers and the Port Townsend police were all available to ease our journey toward the finish line. Residents along the route held out cups of water, lemonade and water hoses to sprinkle over heated runners. All were cheering. Along Cook Avenue, the crowd grew thinner and more spread out. The first runners had already finished. Young runners jogged back along the route wearing their newly acquired "winners" t-shirts. Great whoops and hollers from the crowd greeted these folk as they rejoined slower members of their familes to complete the run for a second time. One neighbor poured champagne for those enough old enough to drink, but determined enough to reach the finish line. Kinectic Kops circled up and down the lanes to urge the runners onward. For some, the goal was the t-shirt. For others, the goal was the free beer poured at the finish line by the Port Townsend Brewery. By the time I crossed the line, most everyone had already begun to party on the Fort Worden Green. But that's not the point. The point is: I finished. Next year, I'm going to beat my personal record. Should be able to do it in less than two hours. See you there.

I'm not the world's biggest baseball fan, but in my opinion nothing says Bellingham like a night at…read moreJoe Martin Field to root for our hometown Bells. I was there recently for a rained out game vs. the epically-named Walla Walla Sweets, and even though the game never even got started we still had a great time! I've also attended many fun (and sunny) games in the past, usually on $2 Tuesday when you can buy a second ticket for just (you guessed it) two smackeroos. One of the least mentioned things about attending a Bells game is that they seriously have the most impressive tap list I've ever seen at a sporting event. Yeah, there's a guy selling the cheap stuff too - but just past him you'll find taps (and cans) of many classic local and regional brews. When's the last time you saw Iron Horse Brewery's Irish Death on tap at T-Mobile Park in Seattle? I'm just sayin'. By the way, even though our game against the very entertaining Sweets was rained out I'll still go again - because I can use my "rained out" ticket stub at a future game to get in free. How cool is that? Go Bells!

General admission does include grassy area and bleacher seating along the first and third bases. VIP seating includes waiter service. Seating areas can be reserved for private groups and will be marked appropriately. If you plan on attending $2 Tuesday, consider coming a little early. Tickets do occasionally sell out. Be considerate of neighbors when parking. Nobody likes to come home and be unable to park. Also, mind parking laws. Parking on crosswalks, in front of mailboxes, and very close to STOP signs really isn't a good idea. If you buy the wrong size apparel from the team store, they will allow you to exchange sizes. No returns. Prices are a little high; items are good quality. Some of the concession stand food is lacking. Don't waste money on the veggie burger. For $7, burger only, it actually really is quite pitiful. $2 Tuesday concession items for $2 include a hotdog, nachos, large fountain pop, and select beer.
