BF is a charm of a town in so many ways. The restaurants are local owned, shops are fascinating from fossils to records to art galleries of local work. A book store worth so much more, A real opera house with $6 1st run and classic films, concerts in rock, classical, folk, plays from two amazing theater groups etc BF are real people...oldcomers and newcomers all mixed with life long multi generational residents. All make it a point to keep the town's wonderful striving character having made a comeback from post-industrial hardship just 15 years before. I moved here last year and it's better than I could have dreamed. This is a town who is generally very active in community support, politically, in social justice and being friendly...but very honest. Lastly, my family feels safe and happy here. This village is an absolute gem! The community is very involved and we got to chatting with a few locals. Everyone was very friendly and happy to share local points of interest and community events. Their "Welcome to Bellows Falls" sign states the village was established in 1792. Old brick buildings are in great condition. What looks like an old factory on the river's edge has been converted to apartments. Town hall is now an Opera house with two theater companies utilizing the space, plus showing classic movies. A lovely book shop, two coffee shops, a diner, breakfast and lunch cafe, lounge, hardware store, antique shops, vintage clothes stores. All this and more on the main road through town. A small, easily missed road by the tattoo shop leads diwn to a Grist Mill museum, walking path and labyrinth. A small brown sign points the way. We pick up a small flyer in one of the shops that lists points of interest in the area and took a stroll through town. Wish we had more time to stay and explore this piece of American history. So happy we stumbled upon this thriving VT village. Get out and wander! There are gems to be found. read more

Not some where you want to live or let your children go to school. The rec center is littered with dirty needles. Drugs are given to the kids while playing on school property during school hours. The schools cariculum is subpar at best. Colleges don't even look at graduates from this school system unless their grade point average on the SAT are worth looking at. The house and apartments need to be condemned due to none compliance with housing codes. read more

This is the best town I have visited in Vermont so far, possibly. The Dari Joy ice cream location is great and has diary free and beyond burger options! Go there for some grub! read more
