The University of North Carolina at Charlotte (CHARLOTTE) is a public research university and part of the University of North Carolina System. It is classified as an R1 "Very High Research Activity" institution, reflecting its significant research output and doctoral education. In Fall 2025, CHARLOTTE enrolled over 32,000 students -- approximately 26,200 undergraduates and nearly 6,000 graduate students -- making it one of the largest and fastest-growing universities in the state. CHARLOTTE offers a broad range of academic programs across multiple disciplines, with around 79 undergraduate majors spanning arts and sciences, engineering, business, computing, and others, along with more than 150 graduate and professional programs. As an R1 university, CHARLOTTE emphasizes research and innovation through strong partnerships with industry, government, and the community. The university ranks among the top 30 U.S. institutions for career outcomes and return on investment. New degrees in sports analytics and artificial intelligence continue to expand CHARLOTTE's academic reach. Students benefit from internships, research opportunities, study-abroad programs, and strong post-graduation employment outcomes. The campus itself is a major asset. It offers excellent venues for meetings, events, athletics, and alumni engagement. During the Fall 2025 season, I attended every home football game, including tailgates hosted by the SigEp NC Nu Alumni and Volunteer Corporation. I also attended a men's soccer match -- and what a season it was. The CHARLOTTE 49ers finished 8-4-4, captured the regular-season conference title, and earned the No. 1 seed in the American Athletic Conference Tournament. They advanced to the semifinals, where a dramatic nil-nil match against FIU was decided by penalty kicks, with Charlotte narrowly defeated 11-10. In December, I volunteered at the William States Lee College of Engineering Senior Design Expo, held at the James H. Barnhardt Student Activity Center (SAC), which includes the 9,000-seat Dale F. Halton Arena. I've attended basketball games at Halton Arena for years, but I had no idea how impressive and versatile the rest of the facility is. I helped check in alumni, business leaders, and academic staff for lunch, which was hosted in a beautiful suite of rooms on the third floor. Meanwhile, senior engineering students displayed their projects on the main arena floor. It is an outstanding venue for academic and professional events. Greek life plays an important role at UNC CHARLOTTE, contributing to leadership development, service, and campus engagement. The university is home to a wide range of fraternities and sororities representing social, professional, and service-based organizations. These chapters are deeply involved in philanthropy, community service, and student leadership across campus. The strength and professionalism of Charlotte's Greek community reflect the university's broader emphasis on character, service, and lifelong connection referred to by the university as the "Gold Standard." Sigma Phi Epsilon has a strong alumni presence at CHARLOTTE (Sig Ep NC Nu), and we also have student Brothers actively chartering a chapter on campus. We recently held an executive workshop in one of the meeting rooms in the Student Union. Sig Ep's Balanced Man program is unique to Greek organizations and will benefit the university and student Brothers. Like many of Charlotte's academic, athletic, and student facilities, the Student Union is impressive -- modern, well-designed, and comparable to professional conference centers I've experienced throughout my career. It was perfect for the Sig Ep Executive Workshop. UNC CHARLOTTE continues to grow and achieve excellence, just as the City of Charlotte itself has emerged as a premier urban and economic center. The university proudly brands itself as "Charlotte's University," and that identity truly fits. The William States Lee College of Engineering, in particular, has gained national visibility, climbing steadily in U.S. News & World Report rankings. Its graduate programs in civil, electrical, and mechanical engineering rank among the top 100 nationwide. The college is also home to one of the nation's most highly regarded motorsports engineering programs -- a perfect fit for the Charlotte region. A truly great university in a great city!

She said she would start the process.. A week later I called and said what is going on. I haven't heard back from you. There's probably people that need a kidney and she told me the lady that does all the paperwork for insurance is on vacation. It might be a little while.. I asked her how can you tell the people that are waiting for a kidney, we have a donor however the person who can save your life is on vacation.. I guess this is how people in North Carolina are... We really enjoyed coming here for a walk on a cool day and looking at the sculptures around campus. Each sculpture has a placard nearby with a QR code where you can learn more about the artwork and often hear directly from the artist. We found free parking in a lot a couple blocks from Main St. Perfect for a lil day trip from Charlotte!

Our daughter chose this university for three reasons: it is a "Christian" school, it had the…read moremajor/minor she wanted, and for its location. I'll start with the positive. The location is beautiful. And we were thankful that the two degrees she was seeking were both offered at one university. Unfortunately, we were completely disappointed with the lack of Christian elements. We simply didn't find the Christian components we had hoped for. Even during the orientation week, meetings with parents didn't involve an opening prayer, and the focus wasn't directed towards a daily walk and relationship with Jesus. Our Christian life shouldn't be reserved for just Sundays; our hope that Jesus would be honored in what was happening on campus simply didn't materialize. Maybe this is just the state of our world, but as an example, we were very unhappy to find out that at the time of registration, the university had a lesbian in charge of housing. Additionally, one of our daughter's professors was a lesbian. While they were both kind, we disapprove of that lifestyle based on the teaching of Scripture. By hiring these women to play significant leadership roles, the university seems to be condoning that lifestyle. How is this an appropriate choice when choosing leaders for a Christian university? Our daughter also shared with us that in a different class, the professor asked the students about where they thought they would end up after they passed; not one person other than our daughter said "Heaven" because of salvation through Christ! Sadly, our daughter had great difficulty finding quality Christian friends. We also had issues with the billing procedures of the university. The bill we received to start her sophomore year omitted her housing charges. After taking a significant loan out to pay for what we thought we owed for the school year, we were advised of this mistake and had to pay the amount out-of-pocket. It was $6,000 in total! Though it was their error, there was no compensation on our behalf. Additionally, though she should have been given priority regarding her housing location due to her disabilities, due to this error, her room wasn't assigned to her until shortly before she arrived for her sophomore year rather than early in the summer months. The disabilities department was disappointing as well. Rather than go to bat for her, she had to advocate for herself in many instances. In one specific situation, a professor expected her to attend class regularly while our daughter believed she could do the class virtually. When those wires got crossed, the disabilities department would not play the role of advocate for our daughter and she received a failing grade; she had to retake the class the following semester. We were also disappointed in learning that on long weekends, the campus pretty much shuts down, including the dining options. Unlike many students who live nearby, our girl was stuck alone on campus (we live many states away) without the provision of food. One time she was alone during the aftermath of a hurricane with a ghost town of a campus and without power. We could share more, but needless to say, she had a terrible experience. She is no longer enrolled in GWU and is much happier doing her studies online with another college. If you are seeking a university that will saturate your son or daughter with God's Word and provide a rich Christian education that challenges their relationship with Jesus, we would encourage you to look elsewhere. Should you choose to enroll your son or daughter at GWU, we hope your experience is better than ours.
