As others mentioned there was an odd smell. 2nd floor, I was also told I couldn't sit there as it was for children and teens, hardly anyone was there. There's a side room for programming for parents and children, which seems like a great resource. The best thing is that it is sometimes opened until 9pm, not so easy to find, grateful for that. If this were a private BUSINESS, I might give it 3 stars tops, and this is the main reason why: It's basically a hang out spot for the unemployed and possibly unhoused folks in the neighborhood. I don't think I've ever felt threatened or unsafe here, but if I were coming for a quiet place to read or study and didn't have use of my trusty noise-blocking earbuds which work very well, it would NOT be a good choice. Today there was a guy who was talking to a hallucinatory entity non-stop and neither staff nor other patrons seemed to bat an eyelash...it was just business as usual, lol. Call me paranoid, but I would not risk leaving any valuables unattended for much more than ten seconds. The attached photo of signage in one of the two unisex bathrooms (which you have to actually sign your name to a wait list for if both are occupied and there's a wait), gives you a pretty good idea of the urban reality this place is situated in. Bright spots: the staff are quite nice, helpful, and do their best as they can. There is a nice collection of offbeat movies (BD/DVD) and music (CD) that you can rent, with a wonderful self-service scanner! I appreciate that they're open till 9pm on Tue/Th (albeit just 6pm MWF, 2pm Saturdays, and closed Sundays). They have some nice programs, like free English conversation classes for immigrants, basic tech help workshops, etc. In conclusion, can't really complain. It is where it is, and what it is.

It doesn't seem that big from the outside but is pretty spacious inside with a lot of books and laid out well with individual work/reading areas as well as more communal areas. It's clean and calm. I love getting to come here and find something new to read. Of course there's more than just books, there's also other things that can be checked out from the library and they have a lot of library resources for those who have a library card. A great way to get plugged into the city and get to explore more local things, especially for people who are new to the city, looking to try new things, or for families. They offer a lot of programming for kids, families, and adults. The app that they have also makes it super easy to check books out and explore some of the resources at the library has available. The staff has been super nice and overall this is a great location and resource!

There's an elevator and stairs right when you walk in to make it accessible to everyone. The librarians are super friendly and when you walk in you have the option to take a left (heading into the children's space) or take a right. No matter which direction you take, you can do a full circle and end up back at the front desk area. Great flow and setup that creates a community feel. This library is full of books, seating, natural light, study desks by the windows looking out at Oak Square, computers and a printer, and more. Although it has a very limited selection of books, it is a nice quiet spot that is never too busy so even though there are only a handful of tables and chairs, you'll always find a place to settle down for a few hours. It also offers free wifi and free printing up to 20 pages. As part of the Cambridge Public Library system, you can request books that will be delivered here for pick-up so even though the selection is limited on site, it can still allow you to access the wider selection if this happens to be the library closest to you. This has been my main experience with the library and I rarely find a book here simply by browsing their few shelves but rather I come here to pick up the books that I have requested online. The biggest downside is that the hours are quite limited and on every day except Tuesdays, I have a hard time getting here since I get to work before they open and get off work after they close: Mon, Wed, Fri 10am-6pm Tue 10am-8pm Closed Thursday They post events on their website and although I have never attended any of them, I appreciate that they are offered and the information is readily accessible. Overall, I have appreciated having this humble neighborhood branch of the Cambridge Public Library near my workplace.

Good to know: 1)…read moreThis place is teeny tiny. 2) The selection skews heavily towards kids books and young adult fiction. 3) The hours are less than ideal; and it's closed on weekends. 4) On-hand media selection is limited. 5) There are only a few computers, but there's almost always one available. 6) There's a convenient drop box for books outside the front doors if you need to return books when they are closed. Better to know: 1) In person, over the phone, or on-line (with a minuteman library card) you can request materials from any other library in the minuteman network, and they will be delivered here. They will e-mail you when they get there, and all you have to do is walk in and hand them your card at the desk. Saving you time, and frustration. You can also renew books on-line. 2) Libraries are very in right now. Save money and be green all at the same time!

But still, the awesomeness of the library completely outweighs the fact that it's hours are not what I would want them to be. The staff is unbelievably friendly. Sometimes I feel silly for always checking out books that are less than the highest quality of literature (can I help it if young adult sci fi makes awesome bus reading?), but they don't judge. I'm also continually impressed with their DVD selection. Awesome service, awesome selection, less than awesome hours, but still definitely a good alternative to paying for books that I'll just have to move or paying to rent DVD's!
