Thanks, Adam! Wandering the streets after sightseeing, I let Yelp lead me to a top rated…read morerestaurant. I was not even slightly disappointed because Akbar's is an excellent curry house. Even though I walked in at 5:15, they were happy to see me and brought me to a table near the window. The menu was a bit strange - a solidly laminated sheet - but it had all the usual curries that I've come to expect in this country. And so instead of going with the usual, I let my eye choose. I started with the Liver Tikka. I've never had this before and I would recommend it. Not at all "livery", three good sized pieces arrived on a sizzling plate with some sauteed onions and a bowl of mint sauce. Th mint was a big help because this was seriously hot. Not spicy hot, temperature hot. Wow! For mains, the "handi" was listed as 'just like we have it at home' on the menu so I thought I'd give that a try. I chose lamb instead of chicken. It took about ten minutes (the waiter warned me it would be 15) and I also opted for two chapati to go with it. Again, very hot coming from the kitchen and it had a whole lot of flavor and spice, but it wasn't "hot" spicy just really tasty. Lots of small pieces of lamb in a sauce that is beyond description. Let's just say that it was excellent and the chapati was perfect for scooping. No dessert, but the cold bottle of Kingfisher was perfect (first time in a bottle, it's usually draft). A great meal!

After a week of pub grub and clichéd British food, it was time for some curry. Yelp to the rescue!…read more We found Akbars just a few blocks from the train station, so it made a good stop after the National Railway Museum. I thought the dishes were fine quality, tasty and not too spicy. Good prices and good portions, suitable for sharing. Loved the atmosphere, with low lighting from chandeliers with red highlights and lounge music. It seemed more modern and hip than a standard Indian joint. The crowd was a mix of small groups of businessmen and tourists, with a few families like us.

On this trip we have our new baby boy along and it was a bit easier to grab takeout, though we normally dine-in. Each time we have, it's always been wonderful with great service. We called in for an order around 6:30pm, and within 30 minutes or so it was delivered to the doorstep, still pipping hot. As usual, we ordered poppadoms for a starter, which is Indian deep fried dough rolled so thin that it's crispy by the end. They come with a green yogurt sauce for dipping, as well as something I'd liken to a mango chutney. Both very tasty. For my main, I went for the Chicken Korma. This is a coconut curry made with yogurt and spices creating a thick sauce, served with rice. It was A-ok, nothing to write home about. Normally, my go-to is the Chicken Tikka which is more of a five-star-dish in my opinion. My mother-in-law opts for that this time so of course I had to have a sneaky bite. Oh and no Indian meal would be complete without Naan bread, in which we ordered plenty. It's made very thick and fluffy here! Safe to say I was completely stuffed by the end of this tasty meal.

I ordered the shahi vegetable masala. I had two pieces of cauliflower and one piece of potato. There were a few green beans. The rest was sauce. We basically just ate rice with sauce on it. I was very disappointed. We will not order from them again.
