Kelly Services
So far so good. Although this review is of Kelly Services in general and not just this branch. I'm…read morenot long registered with this Victoria branch and they've come up with a six week corporate reception/switchboard temporary job with a better rate of pay than I get with other agencies. I find their staff friendly and they sent me a birthday card which I thought was a nice touch. Way back in 1996/97 they had an office in Kingsway and they found me a nice part-time job at Parcelforce for about 4 months. They stuck with me even though I didn't complete an assignment once. Their old Oxford Street branch were also pro-active in finding me an administrative permanent job years ago which I stayed with for about 10 months (so they would have got their fees). Yes, so far I like Kelly Services Victoria branch and I'll see how it goes.
Office Angels
Office Angels. Yes, an embarrassing name for a temp agency, but a very good temp agency…read morenevertheless. I signed up with Office Angels immediately upon arrival in London, and was temping a few days later. I told Office Angels that my preference was to work with NGOs, and, out of the 3 longer assignments they found me, two were with non-profits. The third was with a Japanese pharmaceutical company that had a lot of free lunches, so the trade off was worth it. I was literally not out of work a day when I lived in London--Office Angels kept me as busy as I wanted! They also had regular free lunches for their temps, which were a nice gesture. Most of the women that worked there also had extremely eccentric hair.
Blue Arrow
My experience with Blue Arrow goes a little something like this:…read more 1. Sign up and get a shift that starts in an hour somewhere across town, fine. 2. Work 15 hours in 2 days and expect some form of remuneration, normal. 3. Get paid 24 pounds for my troubles (somewhat less than expected shall we say) only to find out that the person who is supposed to sign my wages off has left the company. Not ideal. 4. Spend a lot of time hanging around waiting for shifts at the Chelsea Flower Show not being paid. Less than impressed. 5. When shifts appear, they do not usually specify any kind of finish time, meaning that it is impossible to plan your time in any way. Marvellous. 6. Show up on time, then get sent straight home as they have no more shifts, even though they knew this would happen late the night before. Tears and tantrums ensued. To summarise, do not bother.

Many people think that doing work experience is just waste of time and exploitation, but that is not true. I had been looking for work for over a year, but without success. Each time I got turned down as I had no relevant (or recent) experience. So I decided to try doing work experience and after 3 months I had been offered a full time job! Now tell me, what is better, looking for work for a year or do work experience for 3 months?

They are a good company to work for, they treat you well and I have had no bother with pay. It's an easy process to follow, they send you a job card which you accept of decline and send back to them. It already specifies your area of work, hours, rate of pay and date of work. All you need to do is turn up and work. You need to check in at your recruiters desk first and then at your area, they sign your card at the end of your shift and then you sign out with your recruiter as well, then you get paid :-). Not much else I can really say.

I had contact with 3 different people about one role, and there was a lot of confusion about when (and if?!) I was coming in to do my registration documents, when I had clearly confirmed when I would do so. The recruiter didn't even bother to be at work for the meeting time she chose, and no-one knew I was coming. Had to give a random staff member a run down of my experience and what I was looking for (which I had already done). Main contact didn't bother to apologise or follow up, showing how little they care about their candidates, at the cattle market that is Morgan Hunt. Good luck ever getting a job description from them for a temp/contract role you are applying for either. What happened to the job? It was already filled, of course. Approach with caution, and only if you must.
