If you only speak English, DO NOT go to Holzkafer Restaurant. My friend and I have never been talked to so rudely. I have traveled internationally many times so I am familiar with not knowing a local language. Our server, an older German man, repeatedly insulted us when we tried to communicate with him. We both attempted to use Google Translate to convey what we would like to order. He almost pushed my phone back to me and said, "I'm not from England, this is Germany!" Now mind you, he handed us each a menu written in English so that is how we assumed we would order. No, no, no! I looked up the German translation for pork loin, and after he glanced at my phone, he went to get a German menu. My order was the second food choice listed on a page. I could easily spot the word I had just looked up. My friend told him it was the 2nd option. He RUDELY covered the food description and pointed to the restaurant name for the meal...Devil's Toast...which is pork loin. He huffed off while I was trying to ask him not to include some part of the dish. When the food arrived, it was AWFUL to the point I couldn't even look at my plate let alone eat it. My friend asked TWICE for still water. The server acted like he didn't understand water in English. I doubt we were the first people to ever order water. Since we were nearly finished with our meal, my friend wanted to return the large bottle of water he finally served her. He again, RUDELY, shut her off without her being able to explain. He actually had the nerve to tell us...IN ENGLISH...that the tip was not included in the bill. Sorry Charlie...not one cent was earned because of your blatant rudeness and disrespect. My friend and I were fuming when we left Holzkafer. I recommend English speaking patrons not visit this restaurant to save you for being treated as badly as we were. Since he was the only waiter we saw on a Friday night, chances are great you too would be a victim to this ugly talk and treatment. And to add to the mess of the meal, the schnitzel wasn't even that good and the French fries were yuck. Yes, you are correct, I am still very upset by the unpleasant experience we had at Holzkafer. read more
