Spicy Lamb Soup W. Rice Noodle

When you see a Chinese restaurant with an awkward mid 3 ratings on yelp with people yapping about the service and hygiene, you know it'll be pretty decent. The Chinese crepe ($10.95) is a must have. The chewy crepe with soft eggs and sausage, a crunchy chip-like thing, and perfectly umami sauce, what more could you possibly ask for? The gyoza ($7.95) is fully fried so super crispy outside and juicy inside --until it sits for a bit and gets kind of sad, so better eat fast. The spicy beef tripe ($13.95) is a cold dish, the well-seasoned chewy tripe coupled with crunchy peanuts is a perfect balance. As a lamb addict, I had to go for the spicy lamb soup ($15.95), and trust me, it hit. Cumin on top, extra chili from me, and those rice noodles soaked up every bit of flavor. The ramen ($14.95)? Eh, it's there. It's got all the ingredients, but like... was I supposed to feel something? Portions are decent, service (or lack thereof) is speedy, and the vibe is super laid back. I'd definitely be back for that crepe and those noodles.

We came here on a Friday night and was glad we found seats immediately. While it was busy, we were able to order online and our food came out quickly. The food was okay. The broth for the ramen tasted similar to the broth for the rice noodles. The meat in the ramen and ribs in the rice noodles were a bit tough, including the karaage chicken. Prices were average-you had an option to add extras for more. I liked how there was a combo option for the entree, appetizer, and a drink. The atmosphere was lively and catered towards the students in the area.

Fast and reasonably priced, Berklee noodles factory provides a filling meal with good flavor and fairly good portion sizes. I tried several options here, covering a wide variety of options from the scallion pancake that had a fairly good flavor when dipped with a sauce, but a texture that wasn't exactly crisp nor exactly soft either. I also tried the vegetable ramen that looked a bit strange, but actually tasted quite good. Surprisingly the tomato broth actually tied all the elements together perfectly and the corn provided just the right amount of sweetness. Finally the homestyle braised eggplant was the star here, with a good strong garlic flavor and a nice semi-firm texture that wasn't mushy and a good sear for some wok hay. Overall, simple and quick. I'd eat here again if I need a fast flavorful meal.

Formerly Hakata ramen, now called Berkeley noodle factory so they can add rice noodles on the menu. If you cannot handle spicy, dont order the beef rice noodle dish. I love spicy but I think the spice level was too much to enjoy the flavor of the broth. Generous portion though. Tonkotsu ramen - just tasted salt but dish came with an egg. Other places will cost you extra $2 for ad on. Noodles were soggy. Scan QR for menu and order via phone. A staff will confirm the order after you hit submit. For take out order, you can order in front with kiosk machine.

Very mediocre. Definitely over-priced. And by no means is this place Japanese (except for a few Japanese dishes). Sure it's on Mass Ave so the convenience factor and the speed of service is something to consider but how I wish I just waited at Pho Basil next door instead! Pros: was not busy, seated right away. Ordering is app-based so you can order as quickly or leisurely as you would like. Food also came out crazy fast! Our dining experience took 30 minutes in total on a weekday night. Cons: very pricey for the quality of food. I ordered the Japanese curry, which for some reason came topped with fried chicken. The curry sauce was a in a separate bowl so I guess the idea is you can top your curry at your leisure as to not make the fried chicken soggy immediately. Flavor was OK, nothing special. My husband ordered the tomato-soup ramen (we used to have this back at our hometown and we were excited to see if it was as good as it was there!), quite a disappointment as the broth was quite unflavorful, and again, not Japanese-style ramen. The good thing? They definitely know how to cook their noodles-- perfectly al dente!

I cannot recommend this place at all. I ate with a group of friends and we all got food poisoning soon after. Everything was alright and I wish I could review this place more honestly but when an entire group of people get food poisoning off of your food then there's something very wrong with the way food is handled and a lack of quality checking. We shared a chicken karaage so perhaps that was the issue. Anyway, if you don't want to risk food poisoning then eat somewhere else.

Flavorful huge portions, we enjoyed our meal! The crab rangoons were delicious as well.

    Chinese Crepe

Tried the Chinese Crepe and had to post another review. The crepe is good! They understand what a good crepe means. The middle crisp is crispy, the crepe dough is thin and the sauce is just right. A rare find in Boston. It reminds me of Beijing's cold foggy mornings and the people waiting in line in front of the crepe stands for a warm nutritional filling and cheap breakfast. The old good memory... The waiters are very nice. They checked if we ordered too much and brought us the extra gloves once saw my partner also got his hands on the crepe

i think i just don't like rice noodles so please take this review with a grain of salt. the soup just tasted like basic malatang and the noodles were way too slippery and bouncy. i personally love a good chewy egg noodle, so it's up to preference. there was little beef.

Berklee Noodle House, formerly Hakana Ramen (under new ownership). Flavorful high quality Ramen, rice bowls, and Japanese fare in a clean and efficient atmosphere. The service was fast and friendly, despite being short staffed. One Ramen order was delivered to the table within 5 minutes, as if they read someone's mind. Minimal but adequate drinks list (a tight selection of flavored teas, beer, and sake). The beer we tried was called "Terra" -- a South Korean Czech-style lager that proved a refreshingly clean choice. Reasonably priced and generous portions. The spicy Ramen was exceptionally hot, so if you want to preserve your taste buds, so order down a level to preserve one's taste buds. All the ingredients appeared fresh - loved the baby bok choy. Well executed Gioza dumplings - if you don't ask they will bring fried Gioza (steamed is also available) as a default. The entourage of 4 diners were happy and fulfilled. Street parking is available but could make it difficult to find a space during high-traffic times.

I am always surprised at how full I am when I leave! I'm stuffed every time. There is complementary miso soup with all of the bowls I've tried, outlined below. I really loved all of the bowls I've tried but my favorites are probably the Sake Aisuru Don and Kuromon Don. I just prefer more salmon to more tuna though, and they're all very good! Food: - Sake Aisuru Don: their classic all-salmon bowl! I loved the larger cuts of salmon, and I was pleasantly surprised that even the more pulverized salmon was flavorful! - Kuromon Don: loved the yellowtail in this! Each fish comes with two pieces (except the mackerel for which there are four), and I liked the sampler style for the salmon, tuna, yellowtail, and izumidai. - Maguro Toro Don: so much tuna! And all such high quality. The otoro was so fatty that it practically melted in my mouth without chewing. - Sake Maguro Hamachi Don: a mix of salmon, blue fin tuna, and yellowtail. I liked the yellowtail in this a lot and found that it stood out the most from the other two fish in this particular bowl!

Received my meal in like 5-7 mins after ordering. Fish was super fresh and I really liked the different textures in the Hoseki Don. I also added in negitoro. They gave me a big clump of it! The second time I went back, I ordered take out so I could eat it at the airport for dinner. I ordered the Sake Maguro Hamachi don, added ikura and negitoro. Again, so impressed with the quality of the fish and the size of it. They didn't skimp out and really enjoyed the thickness of the sashimi despite it only being 3 pieces. It was a very satiating bowl. Cant wait to come back next time again!

For an appetizer my friend and I had the spicy salmon tartare which was excellent. Thick cubes of salmon poke tossed in a bright yuzu vinaigrette that enhanced the flavor of the salmon excentuated by bursting ikura added another level to a refreshing texture. The saffron threads added aesthetic and a perfectly delicate garnish. For entrees, we had to try both the homemade soba and udon noodles. Both were so soft with great flavor that provides the essential reminder that homemade is superior. The soba noodles, if you have never had them, are almost sweet. The tofu in the yasai soup was a delightful fluffy pillow of fried tofu skin thinly cut and same flavor as inari tofu. I added a poached egg and the flavor of the yolk mixed into the noodles is unrivaled. I want to eat it for breakfast. I will definitely be back to try more of the menu.

When we walked into Legal, the place was dead, the music was awful, and the vibe was just not there. So we sat at the bar and grabbed a drink while searching for a place to get an actual dinner where we could find last-minute reservations. Shojo in Chinatown came up with great reviews and after looking at the menu and seeing that we could get a reservation, we headed over. It was a short walk from the Ritz and Chinatown is just such a fun place with great energy. When we walked in, we knew we had made the right call and were easily able to switch our reservation from a table to bar seats, which is always an added bonus. The place is low lit and the music is on the louder side, but nothing was excessive to the point that we didn't enjoy our time there. We ordered a variety of drinks while there - a Toki Highball draft, a spicy tequila drink with lemongrass, a few different types of Japanese whiskeys as well (they have a really extensive list). As far as food goes, they categorize their menu into Snacks, Baos, and Rice, Noodles, and Dumplings. There's a lot of vegetarian friendly options, which is always a plus for me. My highlights were the 7 vegetable stir fry, fried eggplant bao, edamame dumplings, and the Thai veggie spring rolls. The salt and pepper calamari was also really great. Everything was terrific and really unique. Service was good - not great, but they took notice of empty glasses and were quick to bring out food, so I have absolutely no complaints. Shojo is somewhere I'd absolutely return to when staying in the area, I'm really happy we all turned what would have been a very touristy, depressing experience into something with a WAY better vibe and time!
