I'm impressed on a daily basis with how flexible Hanno, and the rest of the Transmitter team, is in dealing with students with a very wide range of German experience. Everyone joining these courses has their own background with German, and yet the classes work and we make progress. It's difficult to learn German in a place like Berlin, since it's so easy to get by without speaking it. The Transmitter team definitely takes that into account, and through the small class sizes, frequent partner and team activities, as well as encouragement to use German outside of classes, everyone has been making a lot of really amazing progress. In one weekend Bettina multiplied the joy I get out of my camera to infinity. I own a Sony A7 and for most of the year since I bought it it needed a repair without me quite realising it. Without knowing the basics of photography I just thought it was my fault the camera never focussed and after spending so much money on the camera I wasted a year in frustration. After getting it fixed I enrolled in the course. Bettina is an excellent teacher, she speaks perfect English and made everything really easy and fun to understand. We had a lovely small group and by the end of the first day we were all taking photos which weren't possible a few hours earlier and by the end of the weekend I had a very thorough understanding of the basics of photography. This does wonders for your confidence! Bettina taught us multiple varying techniques to take all sorts of photos and I feel like I really can do pretty much everything I want to do now. If you are at all interested in photography, have a great camera and don't really know how to take a photo on manual, balancing light etc, 100% do this course. I got so much joy out of it and in just 2 days it has made photography such a bigger part of my life. I can't wait to do it more. I'm so grateful to have found this course!

If you have any problem you can surely find someone at the office to help you. I enjoyed being to that school, I think they put the priority on being here for each of us and to the quality of the services. The bad points would be that it's a little bit expensive and that you cannot find intensive evening courses.

When I first contacted Das Akademie, the support staff responded quickly and were very friendly and supportive in helping me find the best fit for a class. I was only in Berlin for seven weeks and wished to develop more confidence in speaking. I also have mild/moderate hearing loss and felt it might be better to have a one-on-one teacher to work with me. I wear hearing aids and with them most people don't realize I have trouble hearing, but language learning can be more difficult. On my first day, I spent time with the Director at DAS Akademie as he helped to choose a teacher that was a perfect fit. She quickly figured out that although I had learned many individual vocabulary words, I was still having difficulty with pronunciation and sentence structure. Rather than rush through exercises to "cover" material, we spent extra time practicing asking and answering questions so that I felt comfortable actually speaking in public. She was not only very creative in coming up with different ways of helping me practice, she did so in such a positive, energetic and fun way. My seven weeks passed way too fast. Each day that I walked into Das Akademie Berlin I was greeting with big smiles and encouraging words from everyone. Next summer I will likely come back to Berlin and if I do I will definitely be coming back. Everyone from the Director, to the teachers and all of the support staff are wonderful.

However, when the time came for a lesson it was held at the teacher's house, which didn't have a piano, instead of the school. They said it was because I'm a brass player and the neighbors would complain at the school! The teacher Abigail, was great, but without a piano it really cramps theory work. Anyway, the manager Denitsa was going on vacation and kept sending me emails requiring me to pay for an entire month of lessons up front before she left, and tacking on fees she couldn't explain - and being generally flippant when I asked about them. ("It's policy") I just gave up and will look elsewhere.

There is a variety of classes to learn from and teachers from all sorts fo agencies. No place is perfect and even if the curriculum isn't always perfect, overall it was a very rewarding experience and worth the money. The classes and internships make you stand out in the advertising world, it's up to you how much you put into it.
