If you want to live coastal, are open to an older unit, and are okay with paying lower rent than normal to adjust for how old it is, then it is a gem. I love my apartment. :) Also, HUGE SHOUTOUT to Kristi Blackford. She is the Supervisor and oversees many of Berro's properties and is SO quick to resolve any concerns of residents. She has been such a help from Day 1. So, thanks Kristi! :) I have lived at 3500 E. First Street in Long Beach for about a year now. The building is pretty old and lacks high-end amenities/features. The rent is well-priced, especially considering the ocean is less than a block away. The Property Manager, Sal, is amazing. He is an older gentlemen who has lived on the premises for several years. I will be honest and say that Berro could do a better job at the upkeep of the buildings, like pressure washing the staircases, the cobwebs, the sidewalks, etc. It still is a great valued apartment for the price you pay and the location at which you'd live. Yes, at times I am tempted to complain about some of the issues this old building poses, but I truly wouldn't want to live anywhere else anytime soon, so I just choose to overlook those things and enjoy living on the coast. I am posting this publicly because Berro Property Management has a pattern of failing to notify residents when construction is happening, and they consistently leave tenants stranded when issues arise. Today, construction continued on the unit next door with zero notice to the building. Contractors used heavy aerosols all day without any ventilation, filling my home with toxic fumes to the point of causing severe nausea. I sent an urgent message to the official Berro number--the same number we receive official building communications from--to report this health emergency. When I finally caught the manager in person, she admitted she could check that system but simply hadn't. Then she dismissively told me it's best/ better to text her personal number instead. I witnessed her finally see my message at 5pm! She was not in anyway concerned and just had a fake grin on her face and just said OK. I told her I need to have a habitable apartment and she needs to talk to the contractor. She just smiled and said OK. No concern. ZERO. It is unacceptable to perform hazardous work without notifying neighbors or monitoring official communication channels for emergencies. This is a total disregard for California habitability laws. Management seems more interested in 'fake smiles' than ensuring residents have a safe, breathable place to live. I only gave 1 star because I had to. This property management company is the worst. They refuse to acknowledge or do anything about the bed bugs that have been in my unit for well over a year now & the problem is getting worse by the day. I am doing my best to get rid of them myself but it's not enough. Spraying does NOTHING. Berro is a racist company. They don't care about any of their properties in black & brown communities. Just drive by any building managed by them in those areas & see how the outside of it looks & then drive to rich, white, seal beach & compare it to those. They won't even return my call regarding the bed bugs. And that's only 1 issue, the worst issue. I also have drain flies that they blamed on me since, apparently, I have anything at all to do with the pipes in their building. There was no communication from them in regards to moving out of one of their rental properties My girlfriend put in her 30 days notice and was instructed to communicate with the office in regards to the next steps. Every time she called they would say no one is available and that someone would call her back. She called each week and the only one communicating with them was her. They charged her for a late and cleaning fee that they didn't make aware of to us. We gave them notice but they don't have the decency to give us any instruction on how to move forward. I think it's crazy that they have deadlines when you need to pay them but take forever to give your money back and suddenly nobody is available. Stay away from all their properties, they are not worth your time. So called "supervisors" don't exist. Poor customer service. Poor quality of business. All around disappointing. I've called multiple times about an apartment complex they " manage " and they are always rude and blow me off and clearly don't care about this issue . They have a the tenant at 749 gardenia apartment 301 that leaves their dog outside literally 24 seven . When's it's raining or 102 degrees outside . The dog barks constantly , it has no shelter. What a horrible way to live . Me and multiple other people have tried contacting them after animal control wouldn't help and they won't do anything to help they clearly don't care and it's sad and frustrating. Imagine your neighbor above you having their dog outside barking at all hours of the night not the mention the poop and pee they wash off their balcony right above yours ... pretty gross. My husband and I are looking for an apartment. I found Berro Property Management and saw a few places that were would be interested in viewing. One is on Gardenia Ave. in Long Beach. On 3/14 I reached out to the manager Jennette to view the place and was sent to voicemail and of course her mailbox is full so I couldn't leave a message, So I sent her a text message...no reply! On 3/16 I reached out to Jennette again and the same thing happened. STILL NO REPLY!!! I called Berro Property Management on 3/17 to let them know what was going on and wanted to to see if there's another way to view this apartment. The young lady let me know the place in not available until April 1st ( uhhh...yes... I know know that I see it on the site) she also adds that Jennette has two jobs and that's probably why she hasn't gotten back with me. Okay, I'm all for someone making their money the best way they can. But, if you are a manager and you have people who are interested in viewing a place and the only contact is you and not the actual management company... at least you could do is reply back through text and communicate something, That way we don't have to keep contacting you! I'm a landlord. The manager was not doing her job. I was doing more work when she managed the building than I ever have when I'm managing it. I was having to run interference between her and the tenants. Additionally, their contractors charged too much. And, I found out that the property manager wasn't showing for confirmed appointments to show open units. A unit that was on the market for four months, I rented out in a week for the same price after I fired Berro. When I asked for a different manager, the management at Berro didn't care and said they only had one manager in the area and couldn't get anyone else. Since I took over, my tenants and I are both happy. And I don't have nearly the turnover that I did before. read more

Mediocre rental management company. Doesn't go above and beyond in tenant satisfaction, as tenant responses are veiled, or dismissed altogether, and they are very SLOW in most everything they do! For example, it has been a year and half since the company closed the outdoor grills and pool due to the Wuhan virus. Despite CDC and state guidelines allowing outdoor grill and pool use since 2020 (you can go to any park and grill and/or swim in any outdoor pool), Berro Property Management's only response every month as to why they aren't reopen is that they "are looking into proper guidance and procedures." Nevermind that the pool continues to be cleaned every week and landscapers keep the area looking great to keep apartments rented.. Another example is that Berro Property Management promised lower-level units that the units above them would always be carpeted to suppress the noise. However, every upper unit is being converted to laminate, which is an absolute nightmare for tenants living in the lower units! You can hear EVERYTHING with the new laminate, down to the dog upstairs walking around! read more

When I finally spoke to the manager of Berro (Pietre - Peter) the next day, he called me a stupid woman and other epithets I will not write here and had no interest in resolving problems with water leakage. The matter still remains unresolved and I have damage in my apartment including to cupboards, countertops and floors (as well as to my personal effects) Berro is a worthless management company - no better than a slum lord. Rude. Lazy. Ignorant or perhaps uncaring of the law and of the rights of tenants. They should be forewarned though - I am not. Beware. If you have an option, choose wisely and select an apartment with a management company that isn't Berro. Sadly, in my case, my building changed management companies and this is my lot. As a starving artist there were times I was very late on my rent but my landlord was always kind and understanding, and the site Manager was the same exact way. They answered my calls and emails with professionalism, kindness, and understanding. While living there I never had a single disagreement or arguement with any employee, we always saw eye to eye. They respected my privacy and by the time I moved out I could call my Landlord a friend. Which in my opinion is pretty rare. Having been in property management for close to 15 years I can be difficult to manage when dealing with stuff going wrong in my home. He was always patient and kind and took care of my concerns in a timely manor. He has also did his best to make this process as painless as possible. Unprofessional and dishonest real estate management company. We scheduled an appointment with Cesar for a rental property a week ago. An hour before the appointment, we get a text message from him asking us to get there earlier than the arranged time. Even though we live an hour away, we told him we would leave right away and do our best to get there early - we got there about 10 minutes early. We were greeted by his wife and daughter and was shown the place. He was nowhere to be found. I thought that was odd. Anyways, we liked the place so we submitted the lease applications with the $30 money orders. However, 2 days after submitting the applications for the rental property, Cesar informed us that they are raised the price by $100 per month and asked us if we would still be interested in the apartment or would want our applications back with the money orders. My first thought was why would they increase the rent like that suddenly, after receiving our applications? If I tried to raise the price on a project after getting commitment from the customer for the agreed on price, that would not fly well and my reputation and trust would be questioned by the customer. Berro management should be held to the same standards. Thus, we requested our paperwork and money orders back. They have lost our trust and their reputation has been tarnished in our eyes. I asked the manager what I needed in order to get my deposit back and he said to just clean! Bull...I cleaned that stinkhole better than I left it and still was charged a $60 fee. I lived in a property managed by Berro and I never had any issues. I liked that they always communicated with the tenants in a timely manner. Every time a maintenance visit was going to be scheduled, they always let me know ahead of time. I also made a few calls to land lady regarding certain things that needed attention and they came to look at it right away, at the most within a few days. I also liked that during the year I was living there, Berro M switched from manual rent payments to an online paying system which was more convenient for me. And I received my deposit back when I moved out very quickly so I really appreciated that as well. read more

They are not honest about when they will get your broken fridge fixed (mine took 2 weeks to get). Then they gave us a smaller fridge than we had. One apartment manager called and yelled at me while I was trying to get ahold of her to rent a place she manages. she set up a meeting so I could fill out an application and drop off required paper work and she never showed and refused to answer calls for the next few days. In January during the torrential downpours we experienced in Long Beach, I left for 2 weeks on a vacation and came back to an apartment with a ruined carpet, ruined bed and bed frame, soaked couch and wet walls. I reported this situation to them immediately and since then I've had roofers out several times to "fix" the leaky roof. Every time it rains, my apartment ceiling, walls, window and ceiling fan leaks. The only thing I have been able to do is put out pots and trash bins to catch the rain water along with covering my belongings with plastic painters tarp to prevent further damage. Word to the wise: Get renter's insurance if you rent here. As of today, I've had ten days where I have been unable to sleep in my apartment due to either a wet bed or a leaking ceiling. They have only reimbursed me for the first night I had to spend in Motel6 but I do expect them to reimburse me for the ten days I have been unable to stay in my own apartment due to the leaky ceiling that has yet to be repaired sufficiently. read more

Went to look at an apartment at the end of July and I was approved. I was told it should be ready in September and if not then October, due to the owner making repairs. Long story short, I kept in contact with the woman who showed the apartment and finally she texts me and says the property was not going to be rented. I called Berro and no one could find my application to see if anything else was available so if I wanted to rent from them I had to pay the application fee and have credit checked again.
