Our son attended Bert & Ernie's Preschool in Dixon from the time he was 4 months old until age 3, so our family was part of this school community for nearly 3 yrs. During that time, he successfully transitioned through every classroom. When he moved to blue room, which has a much more structured environment, he struggled with the adjustment. Like many toddlers learning new classroom expectations, he had difficulty following directions at times. During one incident, a teacher physically picked up my son while redirecting him and he reacted by hitting the teacher. We were shown a video of this interaction during a meeting with the owner and staff. At that same meeting, the owner informed us that our son could no longer continue in the program, stating he was not developmentally ready for classroom structure despite being in their care since he was 4 months old. This was extremely disappointing after trusting this school with our child since infancy. We expected the school to work with us on a behavior plan or transition support rather than abruptly ending his enrollment. We later requested written documentation of the termination and received a letter from the director stating that we voluntarily withdrew our son, which is not accurate. The decision for him to leave the program was made by the owner. Since leaving, our son has transitioned to another daycare and is doing very well, which suggests that the issue may have been more about the environment than his ability to participate in a structured class. Parents should be aware of how behavioral challenges during classroom transitions may be handled. I hope the school reviews how situations like this are handled in the future so that families whose children are adjusting to new classroom expectations receive support rather than immediate removal from the program. read more

They tell you that they can't tell you who hurt your child because its another child and they dont want the parents to get upset. Yet a mother of a little posted about a boy biting her online and berated that little boy talking bad about a 2yr old. How ridiculous is this "daycare" if you can call it that. They let the kids hit each other they dont care. One kid hit my nephew on the head so hard he had a knot and a bruise. But we let it go, hoping it was an accident. Guess its not and the rules are only for a few of the parents and not the ones getting help by the state. read more

My 4 year old daughter has been attending Bert & Ernie's since she was 6 months old. From day 1, she has received excellent care. All of the teachers have gone out of their way to show her that they care for her. She absolutely adores her teachers. Miss Bailey has high standards and keeps a well organized school. All teachers we've worked with have communicated well with us as parents, keeping us informed of the good and the bad in our daughter's day. We appreciated that the Infant Center taught baby signs, did cloth diapering for us, and sent home a daily report card. In the Red and Blue rooms, we've appreciated the emphasis on learning. read more

I have peace of mind that my grandson is in a caring atmosphere that is so safe and secure. The school is structured yet encourages creative development and individuality. Communication is consistent and the discipline fair and age appropriate. He will be well prepared academically for Kinder but the fact that they are always learning is secondary to us wanting him to be loved and accepted for all the things that make him such a unique and sweet little boy. Mrs. Bailey runs a tight ship and has selected a staff that is professional and passionate about childcare. Yes, it may be pricey for young parents but running a high quality preschool is actually quite expensive .I am employed in adult day healthcare and the requirements are not that different. I live far and cannot be his care provider but helping with tuition when I can is a wonderful opportunity and pleasure. My son and daughter- in- law made a well informed decision when choosing Bert and Ernie's ,comparing it to many others. So happy they did! read more

I want to say thank you to Bert and Ernie's Preschool. My granddaughter had her first kindergarten conference. The review was excellent and I feel Bert and Ernie's is partly responsible for this. Let me back up a little..... My 5 year old granddaughter lives in my home with her father. My son shares custody with his ex-wife. So my granddaughters schedule was a little hectic going back and forth spending time with both parents. My granddaughter parents live in two different cities so finding a child care in between both locations is what brought us to the City of Dixon for Child Care. At the time my sons school schedule was crazy. Yet Mrs. Bailey the owner of Bert and Ernie's Preschool was very understanding and allowed my son to enroll his daughter in the school with a inconsistent schedule. Mrs. Bailey seemed to understand the situation of a child needing to be with their parent and a parent needing child care while attending classes. She adapted the schedule of child care and did not force an enrollment of 5 days a week, she allowed a flexible schedule. Which my son could not of afforded a 5 day a week program. Back to my granddaughter....because of the kindness of Bert and Ernie's schedule my granddaughter was able to socialize, participate in a relaxed educational yet fun academic program. And learn the respect of other authority figures while under the supervision of the caring teachers. I have not been here at all but I am looking for a day care for my kids... Does anybody know how much do they charge here for each kid?

We've had our two daughters (ages 2 & 4) at Bert & Ernie's for over a year now and are thoroughly impressed by the level of care they provide. They spent their first three years at "the best" daycare in Davis but we finally decided that it was ridiculous to continue paying twice our mortgage for childcare each month so began searching around. Not only did we find Bert & Ernie's to be much more reasonably priced but we were also happier with their curriculum, philosophy and teachers than we were the fancy school in Davis! We've had experience in all four of B&E's classrooms (infant room, toddler room, older toddler room and "big kids" room) and have been very impressed with all of them. The teachers are loving, professional and enthusiastic and the owner herself, Terri, is onsite every day, overseeing things! Our oldest is (to say the least) a handful and at times downright defiant but Terri and the other teachers have never given up on her and have been working with us on techniques to better parent our strong-willed girl. Because of this we've seen great improvement in both her behavior and our parenting skills. Our girls come home each week with tons of art projects, all of them using different mediums (paint, beads, crayons, pasta, etc) and they're learning essential new skills, both educational and practical, every day. But what really impresses us the most is how happy, dirty and worn out they are when we pick them up because of all the playing they do in B&E's spacious, renovated play yard. I work for the UC Davis Psychology Dept and every one of our Developmental Psychologists will tell you that children learn best through PLAY and Bert & Ernie's curriculum is centered around play and exploration. We couldn't be happier and we highly recommend this school to anyone seeking childcare from infancy through school-age! read more

I am so frustrated with Bert and Ernie's. My son was in the class 6 times before they called one morning out of the blue and said they could not take him anymore due to hitting a teacher in the stomach. My son is 3 and is learning appropriate communication behaviors, he still is not perfect. The school did not report this incident but told his father and than said it was "ok" they talked to my son. The next thing we New "they" couldn't have that type of behavior in the class. So every child is perfect? I approached the director about the situation and she asked me to leave the office when I asked for an incident report than she proceeded to open the door for me. I told her she should have talked with both parents and than gave us a warning this was happening...once we were told. I believe Mrs. Bailey is her name. She had nothing to say but leave. I DO NOT recommend this preschool. It seems there are too many kids for the "teachers" to attend to the children. What was the incident that led to my son's "hit" nobody seemed to know what exactly happened but he sure was kicked out quick. They definitely need to learn professionalism and how to run a proper business. Especially when we trust them with our children. read more

I went for a tour a while back. Not impressed at all. The rooms look old and in need of updates and a thorough cleaning. The first room I went in to smelled to high heavens. The Assistant Director was so cold and unfriendly, she made me feel very unwelcomed. Stay away from this place. read more

I am very pleased with the care my child receives at Bert & Ernie's. He is very loved and nurtured there. Love and nurture is the highest priority for the owner of the school, and also for the teachers. I have never seen a preschool that treats the children so attentively and compassionately. The owner attends to each families individuals needs, and is quick to accommodate to their needs. The owner is very understanding and flexible. I have seen teachers, as well as the owner, bring in food and other supplies from their own homes, for children who come without lunches often, and others who need blankets for nap time, or clothes to wear after becoming soiled. The owner works very hard to protect these children, so I am confident my son is safe and that brings a world of relief to me. The school is NOT on probation. The number one priority of this school is the protection, love, and nurturing of these children. I have been to 5 other preschools all around Solano county and have never seen this tentativeness, it was all about business and money with them, and not personal at all. Bert & Ernie's treats people like family, and I wouldn't have my son anywhere else. read more
