This time another server suddenly says to me with an attitude, I don't have to buy it. I don't know what he meant by that, so I asked him and said I don't understand. He refused to answer me and just walked off out of sight. And this isn't the first time that this has happened either. I guess the words five and eight sound so similar. Then they gave me two receipts, one for 500g and another for 300g. I'm beginning to think there's more to it than meets the eye can see. By splitting your order maybe they make an extra few cents from it. I don't know, I can only speculate.

There's none of that agressive yelling you get at some of the other stalls, and the staff make a point of really being present when you're deciding what to buy. It really does make a difference in the buying experience. A word of warning: eating ethical and organic meat will cost you more so be prepared to curb your portion size unless you want to go broke. The other day I sent the other half to buy the meat while I bought the fish. He got 2 chicken breasts, 200gm of beef mince (we only needed a small portion for some samosas I was making) and 6 slices of bacon. The price? $30! I honestly had to check his receipt when we got home because I didn't believe it cost that much! Just as well the meat is great quality and delicious hey?

The turkey is delivered to my door on the day I requested (usually Dec 23rd or 24th), which means it only has to sit in the fridge for a day so no need to rearrange my freezer. They have never missed a delivery in three years. The turkeys are absolutely perfect, delivery people friendly and notify you when they are getting close. I would highly recommend this company and will be using them for as long as I am cooking Christmas dinner! Well done Corner Chicken Shop! Give yourself a pat on the back. You deserve it.

But somehow, at the Corner Chicken Shop this doesn't bother me at all. It all just comes down to the amazing taste of their fried chicken ribs. These chicken ribs (I know, I didn't know that was a thing either) are mind-blowingly awesome. You know when you haven't had KFC for a while, and you have an idea of how good their chicken tastes, until you actually go there and it's disgusting? Well this chicken actually tastes like that idea. It's what KFC wishes their chicken tasted like. $3.50 buys you a cup full of these babies, which is not quite filling enough to be a meal, but a bit too much to just be a snack. In any case, I could become happily obese if I got to eat this deep-fried goodness every day.

Rainbow's pricing is quite reasonable - you'd be able to pick up a massive piece of chicken for about $4 and a juicy Porterhouse Steak will cost you about $7. In addition to the plain traditional steaks, chicken breast, thighs, lamb rack, cutlets, sausages, angus burger patties etc; they also offer chicken breast marinated in breadcrumbs, sweet chilli pork meatballs (which look very tasty), kebabs and heaps more. If you're a Camberwell local or reside around the area, make sure to pay them a visit and have a look at what they have. It's worth it and, if you decide you like them and see yourself coming back, don't forget to get one of their loyalty cards. It allows you to earn points and redeem them for discounts later on.

The prices are pretty good too if you start to compare with other organic retailers. Some of their prices are even the same as the mega chain supermarket just down the road. Situated on Smith St and servicing the healthy for the last 20 years, this family owned business is a pleasure to come and shop in. I thought it would be too expensive, boring, and not flexible enough for my student life. How wrong I was. I discovered Organic Wholefoods on Smith Street a couple of weeks before, and am now prepared to make weekly migrations to stock up on fruit and vegetables and a few other products as well. Organic Wholefoods boasts some beautiful regional produce (juicy oranges, enormous mushrooms and free range eggs) as well as an enormous range of cereals, flour, tea, nuts and more. I was particularly impressed with the wide range of tea and coffee, and had to get my hands on some of the Mount Zero Extra Virgin Olive Oil (under $20!). I was surprised to see that the produce was pretty reasonable (a couple of dollars here and there more than Coles of Safeway) but after buying and trying out the food I could definitely tell the difference. Although I may not have the budget to buy organic for everything, visiting and trying the produce stocked at Organic Wholefoods was an eye-opening and enjoyable decision.
