Just got back from dropping off my second alteration to Bertoldi. The first was a mini dress from Spell and the Gypsy collective (high end Australian brand) - I am VERY precious with my Spell and could not have been happier with the alterations. They were able to invisibly remove the elasticated waist and turn an unwearable dress (the elastic hit at just the wrong place) into a 3 look statement piece. I can now wear this as a blouse tucked in, a tunic layered over jeans or with the matching maxi skirt which turns it into a maxi gown. They can asses exactly what you would like done with an old item of clothing and revitalise it, making it beautiful, current or simply wearable again. The skills they posses are sadly fading away on the high street. These are real Italian tailors who can make you a bespoke, stunning item of clothing. As well as handling all manner of every day alterations (like the fly on my jeans that just won't stay shut). The designers here are real craftsmen, and as soon as you step into their shop it's just a joy to watch them work away. These are the kinds of skills that people just don't have anymore. What i love about this shop is that there is no pretence. As soon as you step in, the carpet is nowhere to be seen-hidden beneath piles of cloth, fabric and discarded clothing. Thank you Barbara! I entered Bertoldi in a very sorry state, having collected my badly fitting and poorly altered mother of the groom outfit from a "dressmaker" that had been recommended to me. Barbara sensed my upset and soon put me at ease with great empathy. She could see the problems and I could tell that she would be able to fix it. Despite only having two weeks before the wedding and the alteration involving some very fiddly lace and beading, Barbara set to and saved the day! I bought a little suede dress from a website I love for several events this summer. However, this shop runs big and even after exchanging it for a smaller size, it was still far to big for me, so I decided to get it tailored to fit, because I absolutely loved it. I had seen some positive reviews for Bertoldi so decided to give them a try, and they were absolutely fab. I ended up coming back twice to try it on as there was so much work that needed to be done on the dress, just to make sure I was happy with all the adjustments- and right now it's like it was made just for me. Everyone there is so professional, positive, and willing/easy to discuss the options surrounding your material. I highly recommend Bertoldi if you're looking to get something altered- big or small.
