There is an amazing, exotic bird sanctuary in Seebach almost directly next to the tram 14 end…read morestation in Seebach. This place is 'klein aber fein', but I could well imagine that most of us not from East Asia or Australia would be so pleased to view this small selection of winged creatures. Between the hours of 14.00 and 16.00 during the week (Thursdays excepted) one is able to enter the premises. I simply showed up off-peak and had a gander, no pun intended, at the birds as they perched within their outdoor cages. Bird fans: a visit to the Voliere is worth your time!

I've passed by the outside of here tons of times and never went in because I thought you had to…read morepay, but last Sunday, my friend took me around to the back and we could look at the birds for free. I didn't know the back was open, and you could see all the birds in their pens. :D Maybe one day we check out the inside when they are open, too. It's always cool to look at birds. There are a lot of different kinds of birds from all over the world on display. It was kind of cool to see the different species, some mixed in the same pen even though they were from different continents. My favorites were the toucans with the large beaks (reminded me of Fruit Loops and Toucan Sam!) and these interesting birds with totally long legs. I forget the name of the bird, but when they sat down, they looked normal, but when they stood up, they had these long, spindely legs! So funny to look at! They also had really long, thin black beaks and a very large wing span. The sad thing about all animals in captivity is that--well, they are in captivity. The toucans didn't have enough space in their cage to fly, and they just flew back and forth between two branches that were close to each other. It only took them one second to fly to each branch, which was nothing. The other birds were smaller and had larger cages, so I guess they had a bit more room to roam about. I wonder if they realize that they are caged up. Like, is it true what they say about bird brains? Hopefully they are too dumb to realize that they are locked up and don't feel that they are trapped. Or else it would be really sad. My friend thought the toucans would be aware of their situation, but maybe not the smaller birds. I would equate it to being stuck at home or in my living room my whole life and not able to go out. :(
