Two days ago, I had a hair cut buy a newer stylist (Kathy) and it was the worst cut I have ever had. The back was uneven and lots of wispy pieces were cut into, some left, some cut at different lengths. I have longer hair and went in for a trim. I cannot even put my hair in a pony tail now. I don't know how it happened. The sides look o.k. but chopped at the neckline. I went and asked for my money back, but only got a "free" card for next time. it will take six months to grow out of this chop job. Why would I ever go back to Kathy?? Wow- This is a tough one, so I'll list some high and low points (based on multiple haircuts there in the last year) and let you decide for yourself: HIGH POINTS - CHEAP! $12 for a cut (I usually just leave a $20 which is still a great value) -No appointment needed -Fast: less than 10 minutes to be seated and 15 for the cut - Communication can seem tricky but I've never been unhappy with a cut LOW POINTS: -Each station has combs and attachments in either of two drawers marked with masking tape. One reads 'Clean' one says 'Soil'. EVERYTHING comes in and out of the 'Soil' drawer - One day, while I sat in the waiting area, an elderly woman came thru the door on a walker. The female manager yelled at her "You want me to clip your toenail!?" The woman said "Yes, please" and sat right next to me IN THE WAITING AREA WHERE THE MANAGER PROCEEDED TO CLIP HER TOENAILS! No shrapnel injuries to report but that is just gross for everyone - The staff seems to forget that there is a human being in their chair. I've had trimmer cords draped across my face, been squirted in the face with the water bottle and had a comb resting on the bridge of my nose while the other hand clipped my hair. Totally serious. -More recently, the 'stylists' have taken to speaking to each other in their native language and laughing. You might pick out a word like 'SuperCuts' here and there. Probably totally innocent....but IMHO not very sensitive or professional. So the list of low points might make you ask why I ever go back... I can only say you're guaranteed a fast, cheap haircut and maybe a good story all for $20 bucks or less.... read more

On the rare occasion that I pamper myself, I always choose Best Hair. They have friendly staff that are very gentle, they know exactly what you want and they get the job done right every time! This used to be a bargain at $12 for a men's haircut now the listed price is $17 and without notice they are charging $21 to do a scissor cut (?) That is pretty shady, the guy told me $17 is the price using clippers $21 is the price if you want scissors and he waited until AFTER the haircut to disclose that. Total change in policy, no transparency, fradulent, dishonest, stay away. There's way better barber shops for that price. read more

I've been bringing my daughters here for years but unfortunately I won't be any longer. This is my first negative review ever. Brought 2 daughters in. One we asked for an A-line cut (Huey used to do a great job but he's no longer there). Instead she gave her a really dorky short bob. The other needed a trim. The stylist had my daughter in a chair next to a woman who was apparently sitting unmasked for quite some time (her back was to me). The stylist took the mask off my daughter and had her unmasked 4 ft from this unmasked client. Mask mandate currently in place here. Prices have almost doubled since before the pandemic, which I would be totally fine with if they knew how to cut hair and were adhering to current safety policies. Won't be returning. read more

I went back over a week later due to my work schedule and not being able to make it there during business hours. They told me they would charge me to fix it! I already paid them for a haircut. I've come here before, years back, and these older Asian people worked here who were always rude and snappy. The stylist this time was a younger man, who was very experienced and friendly. Very very skeptical and hesitant getting my hair done here. My hair is super super curly and you have to dry it well for it not to get frizzy. I got a guy can't remember his name but he straighten my hair very well and it lasted about 4 days before i washed it. I ended up going to San Francisco to the fisherman's wharf and it didn't get frizzy at all. Awesome place. read more

Let me just start off with this cliche yet fitting expression: Don't judge a book by it cover. I'm ashamedly guilty of being a hair salon snob. If the exterior and location of the salon doesn't come up to par then I won't even give it a passing glance. I've gotten my hair done in a lot of Marin's top notch salons: Edwards, Atelier, Petite Mollier etc... but by far Best Hair is just that! My mom was nagging me to give this place a chance so after doing some yelp surfing I found a Helen. Her A-Line bob stood out to me since that's the cut I was looking for. I called and after talking to a cheerful woman made an appointment on the same day with Helen for 6:00 (one hour before they close) I was a little nervous because I thought it might be a time crunch since I had long hair but they didn't seem to mind. (I hate being the last client right before closing time and everyone is staring daggers at you to hurry up or the job is rushed) I arrived 5 min early and started right on time. I explained briefly with Helen my preferences and she seemed to have grasped my vision right off the bat, sometimes I find this starting process a bit painful because you'll run into an artist that disagrees or gives advice veering off from what you want. I sat for literally TWENTY min and tadahh DONE! I was shocked how fast yet cunning her scissors were. I've never had my hair cut that quick and it turned out so beautiful. She gave me everything I wanted. And it was so RIDICULOUSLY affordable and well priced my jaw dropped when I handed her my card. All in all this place is amazing; I will definitely be coming back to Helen and referring my friends here.
