Checking in later that day took about 45 mins. I felt terrible for the women behind the desk, as they were running into issue after issue while helping guests. Once I was finally able to check in I made my way up to my room. I opened my door and there was a bucket of cleaning supplies on the floor. There was also no toilet paper so I had to go ask for some. The room smelled like mildew, even with the window open. There is no A/C, and the window only opened slightly so you are not able to get a breeze. If you decide to crack the window, you hear the noise of the busy street all night. Awful. You have to purchase WiFi after 30 minutes of use, and breakfast is not included. They do not vacuum their rooms when cleaning. The TV is tiny and only has a few channels. I stayed for 3 nights... 2 of those nights I had to replace my key card because it stopped working (I noticed this happened with other guests as well). You are paying for a bed, and nothing else. I heard the same complaints from every other guest I spoke to. Not sure how this place is still around.

In the pub, there is a nice and cosy front bar as well as a larger tap room. The bar with an always good selection of local beer served directly from the barrel is sandwiched in between. The beer is superb. Across the courtyard is the hotel/restaurant. I can't really comment on this because I've only ever gone to the pub. When I was last there, a large group of Napoleonic war re-enactment enthusiasts were holding their AGM in the restaurant. Zut alors!

The reception area is large with nice big sofa's and is clean and tidy. There is a vending machine within the hotel if you get peckish or thirsty. Each room is well equipped with tea and coffee making facilities and TV's. There is ample parking outside and the hotel is next to pub/eatery which offers excellent food at very reasonable prices. This is an excellent priced hotel where kids stay for free, the only downside is the hotel does not offer air-conditioning.

It's a bit of what this American visitor loved to see as a taste of English tradition. Now, the not so good - the bed was pretty lumpy and the mattress probably should've been replaced ages ago. It was also nearly impossible to take a shower because the temperature of the water oscillates from scalding hot to freezing cold quite often. But, if you can get past the shower thing and the mattress thing, you'll have a good stay.

Absolutely no complaints regarding the room. It would have been nice if the cleaning ladies had held off on vacuuming early in the morning but, it helped to get us out of bed and off for the day. Adjacent to a Toby Carvery there was breakfast included each morning which consisted of cereals, yogurt, fruit, juices, cheeses, and I think toast. Being gluten-free my choices were fairly limited but it was an alright breakfast. We ate at the Carvery for one meal and it was nice - the other guests seemed to be really excited about it. I was much more satisfied with the food at The Hoop in pub nearby. If we were going back to that particular area again we would definitely consider staying here again and be willing to check out other locations. For the price and amenities it was everything we needed.

A refreshing suprise. My last BW experience was not a good one so I was not really expecting much…read morewhen my company booked this hotel for me. However I was pleasantly suprised on arrival. The hotel looks like it has recently been refurbished. The reception staff were very helpful. There is a comfortable residents lounge, bar and restaurant. The menu had a typical hotel style selection of options but the food was prepared promptly and was very tasty. The duck breast starter with cabbage, ginger and honey was particularly nice. The room is clean and fresh and very spacious with good lighting. The toilet had a touch of luxury about it including extremely quilted toilet roll! Added bonuses in the room are freeview and free Wifi. The only thing I have been disappointed about is the lack of a proper glass in the bedroom (plastic bathroom tumbler is the only option) and the room doesn't have air conditioning. I would recommend it as a place to stay for business and pleasure.
