One of two extremely reliable hotels that I've been at regularly over the past couple of years…read more This was formally known as Hotel Alpine, but was bought out by Quality Inn back in October 2013 when it was booming and doing successfully. The staff stayed on as well, so the service remains consistent. The rooms on the ground level have electrical outlets by the motel door, so that you can plug in your block heater on those cold winter nights. Even better, Canadian Tire is right across the street if you need to fuel up or get your engine checked. For food and drinks, there's a large resto-pub in the back of the building with a great atmosphere. In past years, this place used to be quick popular but has gotten quieter over the years. Still, there's an excellent selection of English 90's pop music, so you can still drink and stumble back to your room without needing a designated driver. While the pasta dishes might not fill you up if you're feeling ravenous, the myriad of appetizers here, including 'les bâtonnets de fromage frits' (fried cheesesticks) and 'les rondelles d'oignon' (onion rings) are fairly decent. There's also a standard selection of beers, wines and mixed drinks. Breakfast is included and is available on the main level. The usual fare - boiled eggs, scrambled eggs, muffins, yogurt - is available and if you're feeling adventurous, there's creton - Quebecois-style ground pork - to spread on your toast. There used to be a pool here a number of years ago, but it is no longer there. The front desk clerk, Justin, was also very helpful and pleasant. Many of the staff upstairs here are bilingual, but downstairs in the spa, there aren't too many that speak English. It was a struggle to make my booking 'en francais', but the lady was as helpful as she could be. My room was fairly comfortable, although it was a single and faced an extremely boring view of a hotel wall and ventilation system. There were big, fat bathrobes for me to go down to the spa and I liked the see-through sink. The bath water was actually super hot, to the point where I had to wait 10 minutes before it was cool enough to get in. Everything seems to work fine. SNACK BAR: Gummy bears, Snickers, Eska water. Pay extra. WIFI: Included in the room price. Password required. SPA: Located in the basement of the hotel. Unfortunately, the elevator is not, so you might have to walk through the front lobby in your bathroom. I had a one-hour relaxation massage from a masseuse named Natalie, which was fabulous. Very professional and did great work; I would ask for her again. PARKING: Free parking along the sides of the building and behind.

Usually when I'm in Rouyn, I have no issue booking and finding a hotel room but for some reason, on this particular winter week, everything was booked. After doing some quick searches via my smartphone, I found the Gouverneur and based on the info on their website, they had rooms available. So, I quickly drove up, went inside and it turns out, I got a great deal. Much less expensive than some of the other hotels in the city, including the one I used to stay at. Which, FYI, by no means had half of the amenities as this one did. I went for the business suite and was not disappointed. Friendly check-in staff, the lady at the front desk was very nice ;) Parking, unfortunately, was outside and had to wonder around towards the back of the hotel to find a spot. My room had a nice modern 'Euro Feel' to it. It included free WiFi, Mini bar stocked with beer, selections of spirits as well as some items if you get the munchies. Clean, quiet and a very good value. Will definitely stay here again.

This is my go-to hotel in Rouyn…read more The location is fantastic; if you go out for dinner or drinks in the downtown core, you can easily stumble back without worrying your blood alcohol level. I like the parking set-up too; you can enter from the back door easily if you have to move your luggage in. The breakfast always had hot foods available; I love the hash browns, eggs and waffle bar! The coffee is decent; I just wished there were more teas available. Otherwise, this is a decent spread in a cozy little breakfast nook. It start early and runs from 6 am to 10 am. I've stayed here at least half a dozen times now. Will continue to come here.

We stayed here recently while on a family vacation…read more This hotel is maybe 2-3 years old in New Liskeard beside the Toyota dealership. Turning into the place is a little confusing as the hotel does not have an entrance on highway 11. You either need to pull into the Comfort Inn next door and drive over the gravel into the hotel, or pass the Toyota dealership, go on a back street and follow the signs to access the hotel. My wife would not let me do the check-in. Being a Hilton diamond member in a non-Hilton town she was afraid that I'd say something. So I cannot comment on the check-in process. Access cards for the rooms are proximity cards. If it were a Hilton, I'd be able to use my blackberry to open the door... For the month of August they are doing a promotion where they are serving free pancakes all evening from 8pm-midnight. When we were down at 8:30, there was a line. We came back at 9:30 and the pancake machine was breaking down. Since it was working the next morning, I'm assuming that the lady just didn't know how to properly change the bag of pancake batter. Still she was gracious and started serving cinnamon buns in lieu of pancakes. Our room was a 2 bedroom suite. My wife had read this to be a room with two bedrooms. What this really mean was that you had a living room, and the two beds were in a different room. Once again, my wife is my own worst enemy, as we had to share the room with two of our three kids. The third slept on the sofa bed. We also used the pool, and hot tub. Both were clean, and the five of us had the place to ourselves for an hour. The next morning we partook in the free breakfast. I have my staple of oatmeal and low sugar yogurt. My kids had boiled eggs, juice, cinnamon buns, cereal, scrambled eggs, and pancakes.

Just remember to bring loose change to tip the clerk. The selection is your usual fare, but avoid the scrambled eggs as they are made from a mix (I couldn't even choke the whole thing down and spat it out). The rooms aren't particularly spacious, but the back door is convenient when you want to park next to your room to move supplies in and out. Each room has a couch too and a microwave. The best part is that the bar fridge is double the size of most hotel room fridges! Great choice to stay if you're on the road.

We had also gottten a roll away for our son. There has been one minor upgrade since our last stay - the desks in the rooms have been upgraded. For those of you who are not away Comfort Inn is a part of the Choice Hotels brand with about ten brands in its portfolio. Its aimed at the more budget conscious traveller as most locations do not have gyms and swimming pools. This was the case for this one. The hotel is situated on the major highway through town. Its in an auto mall, so at night you don't have neighbouring businesses making noise. The interesting thing - because its Quebec is that they have a beer vending machine. You have to show id and pay the front desk for the beer, then they give you a token for the machine. The other change in the last two years is that the hotel now offers hot breakfast as part of its free breakfast offering. My wife had scrambled eggs and sausage. They also have a waffle iron with 2 different flavours of waffles, oatmeal, cereal, yogurt, and toast. No issues with our stay. Our room was spic and span clean especially the bathroom. You are deep in Quebec so there's only 4 english language tv stations. Space was a little tight. Still for what we paid we had a decent experience.

The internet is a decent speed, the bathroom floor is heated and there are always chocolate mints on the pillows. The staff are bilingual and very accommodating (i.e. they were willing to hold onto a work vehicle for a week). In fact, they often remember who I am and pull up my reservation with no hesitation! Unfortunately, there is no breakfast included. The dining room does have a good selection throughout the day and the staff are friendly. Yes, you can have beaver tails for breakfast, if you want!

The rooms are very clean and everything seems to be in fairly new condition. CONS: The WiFi is decent, but there are restrictions on downloading. No exercise room, but there is a free access to a gym in downtown. PROS: Several conference rooms if you need to run events. Walking distance to a Jean Couteau, sports store, several restaurants and car dealerships. POOLS: Forget it. There's none.
