Reasonably priced hotel I stayed at for 2 nights for a recent school trip. Indoor pool and hot tub in courtyard like area with rooms surrounding. The rooms around the pool had patio doors where you could step out and walk right to pool. Hotel was pretty dark and could use some updating but was very clean and overall well maintained. We also enjoyed free hot breakfast. Our AC unit was a bit noisy but overall would stay again. read more

We very much enjoyed our stay here. Nice accommodations, friendly staff, and pet friendly. The only downsides were that the place was very busy, and it was more expensive than other similar accommodations in a small town. The pool and hot tub were a big hit for my boys! Big pool area, warm hot tub and plenty of towels! There is also a small game room. The hotel is attached to a Green mill so for dinner we ordered takeout and sat poolside. Room was very comfortable and fit us and our dog comfortably. Breakfast is included and it had good coffee and waffles. read more

Pet friendly hotel. It's within walking distance to a Hy-Vee, several restaurants, & a gas station. The COVID "grab & go" breakfast options were great. There was fruit, cereal, donuts, oatmeal, yogurt, milk & hardboiled eggs. In addition, there were "heat & serve" bowls of scrambled eggs+ham, biscuits & gravy, and a breakfast potato bowl. Well, where to start?! Because you will not believe this ... We booked two pool side rooms for our Twin sons 8th birthday. We need a little extra space for sleeping so the front desk brought us a airmatress, but no pump.. were looking for something to blow up the airmatress and we went to look in the dresser. We opened it to find.... a 36" double sided purple dildo in our room. No, no I am not joking. I am not sure it was missed by housekeeping it took up basically the whole dresser drawer. The hotel staff disposed of said toy and provided us with new bedding "in case". Its almost 24 hours later and I am still in disbelief. Thank GOD the kids didn't find it. Yikes & Yuck. The hotel did comp the room for the horror inside the drawer and I do appreciate that. Now that that's out of the dresser, let talk pool. There is a clogged drain by the hot tub, so they need to get that fixed, and the pool hours need work. Adult swim should be 11-1am or something. Adult like to have a cocktail and side in the hot tub, if your booking a poolside room, you sign up for it to be "louder" .. If I have to deal with dang kids splashing and laughing at 9am, they can let adults relax until later. The Green Mill restaurant is attached and the food was good. Breakfast in the morning is standard hotel breakfast, they do have it individually packed for covid standards for over all the hotel was pretty clean.... Which again BLOWS MY MIND HOW THEY MISSED A 36" DOUBLE SIDED PURPLE DILLY!!!!! OH MAN, at least it was good for a laugh, we would book again, but be sure to check all the drawer right away! We purchased a gift card for our daughter in person at the front desk. It was an electronic form. We also booked the room at the same time. When our daughter showed up and presented the bar code for the gift card they wouldn't take it. They claimed it was supposed to be a physical card. We called to try to resolve the issue. The general manager didn't seem to be interested in helping us. He wasn't familiar with an electronic gift card and claimed they don't do it that way. Keep in mind they are the people who processed this for us in person! Our gift to our daughter had to be paid for again as she traveled from out of the area to stay here. We are done doing business with Best Western in general after this experience. read more

Went to stay there one night with boyfriend. The price seemed over priced and come to find out it definitely was. The TV was difficult to figure out. Went to take a shower before bed and found the shower full of scum, so was obviously skipped in cleaning for who knows how long. Woke up the next day for breakfast in lobby, and was welcomed by a very rude staff member. Otherwise it was a decent stay, but wouldn't recommend it for the price. read more

The rooms and building itself were very clean- great job housekeeping! The evening staff was rude and didn't seem to care about anything. There were a large group of baseball players staying at the hotel when we were there. At one point there were about 20 teenage boys rough housing in the pool area to the point of extreme danger. My children couldn't even use the pool because I knew they would be injured. When I spoke with the front desk person and the manager they said there was nothing they could do. They told me my options were to confront the parents myself (almost all highly intoxicated) or call the police. Eventually we called enough times that the (seems to me) lazy manager finally came down and he told the boys to stop. Of course they started up again 10 minutes later and the manager never came to check again. I went to the front desk in the morning where I was we greeted by a very helpful lady named Ashley. She was amazing and I truly appreciated her help and understanding with the situation. So if I were just rating this on the housekeeping and Ashley it would have been a 5 star. Update: after sending a detailed email to the GM she called me immediately and was incredibly helpful and upset about what had happened. She took the time to listen and said she will retrain those staff members who we were dealing with that evening. I appreciated her call very much. read more

Okay hotel if you don't mind not sleeping on a Sunday morning after 9am... We stayed at the -overpriced -Best Western of New ULM for our friend's wedding -maybe it was the reason for the surprisingly high price comparable to a deal price on a very fancy 5* hotel in Las Vegas-. The hotel was okay, quite plain but the front desk staff and great Green Mill restaurant had us satisfied for the first day and night. UNTIL the morning after the wedding, Sunday 9am, when -still inebriated from the night before and trying to recover as much as possible before a drive to twin cities- we started hearing someone heavily knocking on our door every 30 minutes and yelling "housekeeping". Puzzled by the intrusion, we rapidly confirmed that checkout was indeed at 12 and even after mentioning it to the lady we were soon reminded of her lack of respect for guests and complete disregard for our sleep by more "housekeeping" screams and door knocking for the following 3 hours. To summarize the above: only go there for the food next door, only go there on a low weekend, and only go there being ready to exchange words with little or minimal cognitive impact on the housekeepers, trying to save a few minutes of your well deserved night. read more

This hotel is a dinosaur and much more expensive than two other options nearby. The accessible room has a slippery floor in the bathroom and I fell badly. The breakfast service closes at 9:00 am on weekdays as if people don't have vacations on those days. It took almost two hours to get a pizza from the attached Green Mill restaurant. read more

So the rooms were older and clean, but had a musty smell combined with vehicle fumes. (Perhaps mold from the AC combining with the parking lot and a running truck?) It's in a safe location with stuff around to do. The staff was amazing, though. I watched as the morning staff did everything they could to have food ready and available, and also help families during breakfast. I watched on staffer help a mom with 4 kids so that the mom could have a bite to eat. As a mom of more than one kid, you know that can be a challenge. read more

We made reservations via Travelzoo. Good deal. Confirmed availability by phone. Then, travelled two hours , Thanksgiving Day for New Ulm. Checking in at the hotel was flawless and we were greeted by a very friendly clerk. He informed us the Green Mill on site just finished serving the buffet and was now closed (about 2 p.m.). This, would have been helpful to know during our phone conversation. He said there are chain restaurants nearby. It seems the desk person needs to be better informed concerning local vendors. We found NO restaurants open. Even two listed on line as open Thanksgiving Day, were not. The Room: adequate only. King bed comfortable. Microwave, refrigerator, tv with remote that only half worked. One desk chair and one barrel chair. Two people in the room, but one comfort chair. Since the on site restaurant (no room service) and area restaurants were closed, the room was not a room of comfort to stay in for the evening. The room lacked any brochures or suggestions of local attractions. There was a Green Mills menu which was of no use, since they were closed. The bathroom had one hook on the door to hang towels. The hotel , like many hotels, suggests reusing towels and bedding. Agreed! However, provide adequate towel racks. The ventilation in the bathroom was pathetic. Take a dump and the room will have an odor. My suggestion is when possible use the lobby rest room. The Lobby: Clean but nothing to do but sit. Free Breakfast: A step up from continental breakfast. Good variety but food temperature was not good. I did a reheat of all food in the microwave. Staff: all staff we encountered was very friendly and professional. read more

We were ready to just finishing coffee making plans for the day. Unhappily we left. I went to check out my friend was loading luggage cart, and said to the girl thought check out was 11:00, to where she blurted "11:00 to late to late" l found out real time 12:00. Stayed here in October just for an overnight stay. Our king room was larger than the average size room elsewhere. The room we stayed in however was an adjoining room and the noise from next door was really distracting. I would advise checking on getting one that is not adjoining. It was nice having the Green Mill attached to the hotel. The food there was great. We didn't use the indoor pool but it looked nice. read more

A pleasant surprise in New Ulm. We're here for a baseball tournament and booked our reservation online. I was a bit taken aback by the price, but upon arriving saw that the hotel is newer so definitely worth the extra money. Lisa at the front desk was nice and professional - checked us in quickly and brought up a roll-away immediately when we asked for one. Room was clean, if not very large - four of us is a very tight squeeze - but adjoins the pool for maximum fun. Great shower water pressure made for a pleasant wake-up. Pool area is new and very clean/orderly. There's an adjacent game room with a few arcade games, foosball, bubble hockey, etc. The free breakfast is the bomb - definitely above average as hotel breakfasts go. Great variety for every taste - even tortillas and salsa for a little breakfast burrito action. Desk staff is incredibly courteous - even gave me a bottle opener for some of that famous Schell's beer. Highly recommend this hotel for a family getaway to New Ulm - Prost! read more

Management changed and everything changed so no reason to pay these prices. Family used to stay here in this German town for weeks every summer and dine at the German restaurant in the hotel. The German restaurant has been replaced by a Green mill which is a chain with places all over and less than interesting food. I know the garbage that goes into these hotel breakfast buffets and will not touch them so the hotel is grossly over priced and offers little for me. read more

This hotel just edges out above the other hotels in the area. The staff are always delightful. The morning breakfast is abundant and replenished quickly. The beds are superior to others in town. Unfortunately, the paper thin walls of New Ulm don't help the BW+. It's on the major street of new ulm, so road noise at night doesn't stop. The rooms are so close, and often full, so you hear your neighbor watching tv all night. The pool is hardly "paying guests only," and it echoed noise into my room for all hours. Be careful staying on the pool side of the rooms, they smell of chlorine. The bathrooms and rooms in general look like they need to be updated. It's got quaint German charm, but has entirely seen better days. Regardless of cleanliness, it gives the impression of being old, dusty, moldy, worn down, etc. All negatives aside, it's my favorite place to stay in New Ulm, and I will happily be back, with a few tips to remember. read more

We were coming to New Ulm for a weekend softball tournament. Little did I realize that it was also a Schell's event for the weekend. Called on the road to New Ulm to book a room, room was available and we were trying to eliminate extra driving for the weekend and stay. I looked on Google for hotels in New Ulm and called the Microtel across the way and was totally full for the weekend, prior to calling the Best Western. I saw the rates that the online booking agencies were listing the room rate at. Got to the hotel and the outside markings are not the best for which entrance is which (I have stayed at this hotel many times in the past). Checked into the hotel and asked about the rate for the night. Much to my surprise, the rate of $118 listed was actually $155 a night in person! Uff da! And this is before approx. $15 of tax and other charges on top. I have not paid this kind of a rate even in the Twin Cities at the hotel less than 2 blocks from U of M! We were there, we were tired and needed a place to stay for the night. Upon my not being happy about my charge, I received an almost immediate phone call from the manager. She was willing to decrease my cost by $16 to the AARP discount, which after adding all the taxes was back up to this amount. Room was clean, hallways and stair carpet was stained. Dog was in the hotel, which I didn't appreciate. I guess competition is a good thing, but this hotel is pricing themselves out of the market. Part of the explanation was that "summer rates" were in effect. Others in the group stayed in Mankato because of availability and cost, that was the case for us the following night. Half the rate was paid for a quiet, clean room. Note to self, will be the last stay at this hotel. read more
