I am new to the Latin mass and would love to keep attending, but because I don't speak Latin I only feel like I'm attending Mass so much. In my humble opinion, it would be nice if the readings were done in English. But they were not. In my humble opinion, it would also be nice if the consecration was read out loud instead of silence. The pastor knew that masks were pointless and wrote a pastor's note in 2020 to this effect. But the City of Newton was calling the parish to threaten fines and closure if masks were not enforced. So Fr Higgins, admittedly in a difficult position, unfortunately did enforce the mandate, writing in the parish bulletin that anyone not willing to wear a mask should stay out of the church, and enforced the ridiculous, arbitrary Covid capacity limits. The willingness of the despicable Archdiocese of Boston to jump on board with the Covid lunacy was shameful but ultimately consistent with years of chronic betrayal. Far more jarring to the soul was that even the Latin Mass parish was willing to obey what seems to be the only absolute in the RCAB, ie, that appeasing Democrat politicians trumps Truth and the pastoral care of the faithful.

The church itself is beautiful and the professional quartet provide beautiful music each Sunday. Coffee hour after the services is always a nice opportunity to connect with new and old friends, and the church offers a range of interesting opportunities like movie nights, volunteering experiences and concerts (Messiah sing along, Opera night, etc.) for congregants and the broader community.

Church websites all look the same: We believe that Jesus is the Son of God...obviously. We teach the Bible...of course you do. I needed information from people who have attended the church to really get a feel for it. We visited on Easter Sunday in 2014, after a few months of church searching, and we didn't need to try any other churches after that. A quick synopsis of the churches we tried before I launch into how SH is different. We tried 4 churches before StoryHeights, and 3 of the 4 we visited twice to give them a fair shot. These churches fell into 1 of 2 categories. 1) The people were friendly, but the church was spiritless (they sang about the joy of the Lord, but no one was smiling). 2) The Spirit was moving through the church, but no one beyond the front door greeter spoke to us. SH hit the perfect combination: Spirit-filled and friendly. Everyone in the church was excited to be there, to be worshipping, to be learning, and to be in fellowship. Everyone was so friendly, too! It wasn't just "Hi, what's your name? Glad you're here." They genuinely want to know about us, what brought us to the area, where we were from... And then each person introduced us to another person, trying to connect us with someone in a similar line of work or from the same part of the county. We felt quite at home! Some of my other favorite things about StoryHeights: --The kids program is fantastic. Our girls love going to church on Sunday (any day of the week we'll take them, really), and we never have to worry that they are well cared for. --The pastors know their stuff, but they don't take themselves to seriously. The sermons are funny and applicable, but they don't water down the Message. They also make a point to truly know everyone in the church. --Whether you show up in blue jeans and a t-shirt or a dress and heels, you're more than welcome. StoryHeights loves everybody, and we love you just the way you are. --There's something for everyone. Whatever your thing is, there's an activity or a group for you. I'm a special educator, so our annual Special Needs Easter Egg Hunt is the perfect way for me to combine two really important areas of my life. My husband thrives on fellowship, so meeting with a Grow Group each week really fuels him. I hope that someone who reads this review finds it helpful. I encourage you to give SH a try. I'm confident that you'll feel at home, too.

We are truly blessed to have them shepherd us. This holy week marks our 100th consecutive outdoor Sunday Mass. We never missed a beat during the pandemic. No matter what the weather, our outdoor Mass was a "full house", held in the church parking lot, with a fantastic outdoor speaker system, full music, and parking space social distancing. Led in attendance by Jesus Christ, parishioners were served by the full parish clergy; Pastor- Fr. DiPerri, Fr. Pham, and our wonderful Deacons. (no one got to dodge the weather) VOLUNTEERS TAKE A BOW!!! All year long our souls are catered to in the most touching, spiritual way. We are blessed.

Everyone has their own way of seeking and finding what works for them, but for me, this church is somewhat of a godsend. I was looking for a mass that had a Jesuit priest, but the priest here (Father Mahoney) is likeable and the sermons are worthwhile, and overall I have found this to be a place where I feel I can listen, and participate or not. The music here is beautiful. There is a guitar player and singer, and it really adds to the service. There is always someone there who mentions that people from all walks of life are welcome,and it seems true that there is a welcoming feeling to all who want to attend the mass, and there's no expectation.
