Ohhh... Beth Maries... Y'all can do better!! I went out of my way for an ice cream at your cute little place; I had not been there in years. One employee (the only one there) was servicing a group of five or six people. They paid and left the shop. The employee looked at me and said, "I'll be right with you....(something something...mumble mumble...". He began packing pints and placing them in their little white (To-Go) bags... it took a very long time. Then he handed them to a DoorDash driver. (okay - that's what he was doing... a little communication would have been lovely) He then turned to me (no thanks for waiting... nothing). "What can I get you?" I (laughed, giving a little grace) told him what I wanted --a waffle cone with a small scoop of the Salted Caramel (push it into the bottom, please), and I would like to taste the Peterbuilt. So, he handed me a baby taste. I said it's really good, please add a scoop of that on top. He must've packed the bottom of the cone with the salted caramel, then added another salted caramel scoop, before adding a Peterbilt scoop (which I asked for, "not a large scoop, please"). I even said, "That's too much..." He didn't acknowledge. I asked him, "Do you not have any help today?" he said, "Well, we didn't plan on being so busy today ... Columbus Day...(mumble mumble); we are shorthanded. He placed the cone (wrapped in the messy napkin full of ice cream) on the scale that already had someone else's ice cream drips on it... How many people have also paid for his napkin full of ice cream, and others (who have already paid for) ice cream? I loudly said, "Thanks for charging me for the dirty napkin". I couldn't even see the iPad screen... I tried to tap my card, but couldn't tell if it had been accepted. He then said, "Did you want your receipt?" I replied, "Oh, it worked, I didn't even see how much it was...". $10 .... T E N dollars for an ice-cream cone?? Seriously? Not even a thank you... By then, another customer had walked in, and the employee moved on to assist them. There are so many issues with this visit... We won't be back, but I hope this review helps others prepare for the upcharges of ice cream by the ounce. $.90 per ounce... and watch out for those extra napkins on the scale --they'll cost you! When in Denton... Beth Marie's used to be a staple for me when I am in Denton. I came in for a visit for old times sake... I love the feel of the place, largely because I love the vibe of an ice cream parlor. This one has an old time feel to it as well with an antique soda fountain and a Wurlitzer jukebox. The service is and always has been good here. They draw a crowd here but manage it well. The ice cream ranges average to really good depending on the flavors you select, and is a bit on the pricey side. At .90 an ounce, you can see where a cone will typically run you $7-$10. For me, their Butter Brickle is worth it, but on this past visit my Cookies & Cream was not. read more

First time here. From looks of the long line one would think this is an amazing place. The line went quick, the server we got was rude, impatient and made me feel like an inconvenience. I ordered my grandson a scoop in a cup, she stomped off scooped handed it to me with a piece of paper to take to the register. She didn't give me a chance to order my cup, when I did she got agitated. When she gave me my cup she gave a snarky look. I have never felt so disregarded. I was so upset I didn't eat my ice cream. I had heard wonderful things about Beth Marie's from a few friends, and when my husband and I were in Denton recently - the delicious smells floating into the Square reminded me that I wanted to try this old-timey Soda Shoppe. It is absolutely adorable inside! The decor transports one back to a simpler time. And they have a wide variety of treats to choose from - including things like "egg creams" from the good old days. We opted to split a hot fudge sundae since we had just had dinner, and the hot fudge was AMAZING! When I first visited this location over a year ago and ordered a large sundae, it was served in a tall glass. In my last few visits in recent months, I had ordered milkshakes to enjoy ice cream on the drive home. On my last visit, I decided to dine in, so I ordered a large ice cream sundae of my favorite flavor... Old South Fudge. When I received my sundae in a dish suited for a banana split, I thought it was in error. When I spotted a few diners having been served their ice cream in a similar dish, I realized that is now the norm. Eating an ice cream sundae from a tall glass is a different experience than from a dish. For instance, the chocolate syrup settles on the bottom of the glass rather than spread throughout the dish. Due to the high exterior temperatures, the interior of the restaurant was warm. If the scoops were vertically placed in a tall glass rather than horizontally on the dish, the ice cream might have melted at a slower pace. read more

My family and I came here to have some ice cream while visiting Denton. There was a long line but it went by fast. The place looks very retro inside. The prices were in the higher end but expected for this type of ice cream. I ordered the equivalent of butter pecan and the cake batter flavor and I was not impressed. The ice cream per se was average. Not really worth the higher price. But what disappointed me the most was the waffle cone. When we walked in the reason we all got a waffle cone was the smell that hit us when we were inside. It smelled so delicious- like fresh waffles. My mouth wanted a waffle cone immediately. After a date night at the movies there is no other perfect way to end the evening. This cute ice cream shop is located right across the street from Denton's historical "Square". Which is great for a leisurely stroll, even in the winter (Christmas lights were still up when we were there- first week of Jan). I loved the nostalgia of Beth Marie's. As soon as you walk in you are welcomed by the beautiful aroma of fresh waffles being made into cones. I ordered a two scoop waffle cone - vanilla with toffee and big wig (I think that's the name?). Simple, straight to the point flavors with a little surprise in the crunchy nuts sprinkled throughout the ice cream. Hubby ordered the waffle cone with dark side (dark chocolate) and tin roof (chocolate fudge). We heartily enjoyed our ice cream selections. There was a jukebox that you could pick music on, a bathroom and lots of seating inside. The temperature in the restaurant was also warm, which made it extra cozy as we are our cold treats. I decided to come in just after some heavy rains about 2 pm. Not many people were inside (2-5), and I had no wait to try flavors and pay. Shortly after, several groups walked in. The average person spent about 5 to 10 minutes inside. They have free water, which is really nice. Most ice cream shops try to take advantage of the fact that you get thirsty after ice cream (or is that just me?) They had about 40 flavors and some had unique names. Cinnoat, bees nees, trick or treat, and salty dog. I really wanted to have the ice cream that they were trying to get customers to help with a name: Blackberry, goat cheese, and thyme. It sounds delicious, like a sweet and savory baked brie at the holidays. The server was knowledgeable about the ingredients in each flavor. I probably asked her about 4 or 5 ice creams. She wasn't bothered by my taste testing either. Here's why this place ended up being average for me: the horchata sorbet was very gritty, the bees nees (honey lavender, one of their most popular flavors) ended up losing its flavor as you continued to eat it, and lastly, the price. I understand charging more for ice cream made in house, but I was surprised that they also weighed the cone. So if you choose a waffle cone, you're also being charged the $0.67/oz. I had two scoops on a cake cone and paid $4.49. I wish the server would've warned me it was charged per oz so I could've asked for smaller scoops. Overall, this was a not bad, but not great ice cream stop. read more

Meth Marie's? We walked in for milk shakes at a relatively dead time and left frustrated after a terrible experience. We waited for one of several employees just standing around to order a bees knees shake and a salty dog malt. We checked out and waited while somebody made the shakes. Only they never made the salty dog malt... More people came in. They chit chatted and complimented their painted nails and neon hair, but nobody was making the malt. After asking, it seemed like they couldn't figure out who could make a malt between all of them. Then apparently they figured out they didn't even have the salty dog flavor. We pivoted to a butterfinger malt based on their recommendation. Then more standing around, waiting for a malt. Finally the employee who had already checked us out prior, stepped up and was able to spin a butterfinger malt. They tried to check us out again. We explained we had already payed to which they replied "this is for the butterfinger malt though..." I tried to explain it was because they didn't have the original salty dog flavor they had already taken my money for prior. "Let me ask my manager..." Eventually they figured it out and I left with a terrible malt anyway. It wasn't even blended adequately. Whatever, I didn't want to waste anymore of myself on this place. read more

Delicious ice cream. We ordered 7 cones of various flavors and every one was a hit. I thought the Texas Honey Whiskey was particularly special. The customer service definitely has some room for growth. You'd think people who choose to work in an ice cream shop would be of the friendly type, but this clearly isn't always the case. There was nothing overtly rude about the employees, but they definitely didn't seem excited to have us there. The biggest issue for me was the pricing structure. I find the "pay by the ounce" concept to be a bit evasive... especially when it's not self-serve. It basically takes the control over spending away from the customer and puts it in the hands of the business, which to me is a conflict of interest. Sure, the price per ounce is stated clearly and upfront ($0.74 per ounce, as of 9/13/20), but can you accurately predict the weight of an ice cream scoop on a cone? And if you could, can you reasonably communicate the circumference of that desired scoop to the person serving? I don't have any problem with the fact that Beth Marie's is expensive - it's delicious and unique - but I just don't like surprises at the register. I'd prefer menu prices without all the ambiguity: 1 scoop: $5, 2 scoops: $9, etc. I assume they don't do that because less people would sign up for a 3 scoop cone if they knew in advance it would be $13... but that brings me back to the price structure being evasive... Anyway, we were happy to have our cones, we thoroughly enjoyed the treat, and we were thankful for the 10% discount with yelp check in! read more

They even have other items like floats, cookies, hot chocolate and more. And omg the flavors list is very extensive. They have non dairy options too for ppl like me who are lactose intolerant. I really enjoyed the mango sherbet icecream the best! You can mix and match scoops and get them in their storemade waffle cones or a sugar cone. Just steer clear. I'm not sure they people working there are hired or forced. They hate their lives it seems. Most of the answers are No! No sodas, no water, no bathrooms, we don't do that. We have bottles we can't pour it into a cup and add syrupy (vanilla or cherry). We don't say hi, or welcome your greeted with please hurry, please take it to go. It wasn't worth staying or seeing if we wanted to get it for a catered event at a movie premiere. Just save yourself the time. Either it's poor staffing or they are being treated horribly.
