There are huge rolls of carpeting that they'll cut to order, and samples that you can peruse and choose. The large space is filled to the brim with rugs that they will quickly roll up and send with you in five minutes flat, or order in a different color or size if you so desire. The staff is efficient and helpful, but only when you ask. WHICH I LOVE. They will let you browse as long as you'd like, but there's no pressure and no upselling for unnecessary mats or larger or more expensive options. They will answer all your questions, but they won't follow you around and make you uncomfortable. And the prices are the best I've seen in NYC. I just did a big install of hallway carpet with Better Carpet Warehouse - 3 floors of stairs and landings. I couldn't be more thrilled with the selection, service, and installation. I worked with Wayne on selecting the carpet. He found multiple options in my price range and talked me through the pros and cons of each. He also encouraged me to take the carpet sample boards home for a night to see in the light of my apartment. That was fantastic because it really looked different and I ended up choosing a different color than I originally thought I wanted. They took care of ripping out my old carpet and hauling it away and did a fantastic job with the install of the new carpet. Because I was having the hall painted, they agreed to separate my removal and install by two weeks to let me get the other work done. All in all, very professional and helpful. Thank you! read more

Thanks to my Community Manager's sweet review (thanks, Peter!), I decided to check this place out for a living room rug. Ended up walking out with wall to wall carpeting measurement set up for the next day (hint- don't call your mom for rug advice, you'll walk out with full carpeting). The owner is super sweet and attentive, helped me pick out a color, and measured my whole apartment the next morning. Apartment measurement is $25- worth it for accuracy if you're not good at these things (like me). The job itself was fantastic. They came one week after measuring. I selected from industrial remnants, and they perfectly edged all the corners beautifully. Really could not express how impressed I am with the job. I told them it wasn't necessary to do the closets, and they did all of them anyway, and even cut a little entrance doormat for me. 1BR, 1BATH took 4.5 hours. Pricing- extremely affordable. I called to ask about having two rugs cleaned and was given a price. When I arrived, they quoted a price three times as high claiming they didn't know what kind of rugs they were. When I tried to take the receipt with the quote to post on Yelp, the employee physically assaulted me. I have never written a one star review in my life, but I would give this business a zero if I could. UPDATE: Yelp contacted me to say that someone complained that my review was not appropriate. I have reread the review and stand by every detail written. I have also reviewed Yelp's Content Guidelines and Terms of Service and am confident that this review complies with both. Despite Yelp's implied threats of "legal ramifications," my review stands. They are lovely people, but the installation job was awful. It was a staircase installation including 2 hallways, 5 stair cases and 4 landings. One hallway, which happens to be the most visible part of the house, is completely crooked, showing frayed edges and parts of the carpet is cut to show the ugly flooring underneath that we were hoping to conceal. In other parts of the stair the carpet started to lift on the edges. Really does not look good overall. I told Better Carpet Warehouse about it and they even came to look at the problem areas. I never heard from them again. The prices are not luxury in NYC standards, but still quite substantial for us at $5k to prohibit a redo. So we are stuck with staring at the bad install every day... read more

I bought 3 carpets / runners from this place on separate occasions, and each time had great experience. Leslie was the salesperson. One time pre-made runner that I bought did not fit, I was able to return it and got money back. Most recently I went everywhere across new jersey looking for a custom size runner, and found nothing, while in this local store I found great runner which they custom made from a carpet in 24 hours. Also the store can cut custom padding of various thickness at prices that beat home depot (imo). Overall great experience, selection, quality and value. read more

Within days of moving into a new apartment, I was facing a barrage of complaints from my downstairs neighbor about the sounds of me living like a normal person above her space... Joe turned out to be the rug expert of our dreams. Joe is knowledgeable about the full range of carpet options, and he listened to what I wanted, offered suggestions, and never tried to up-sell me. He has a GREAT eye for color, knows how to coordinate patterns and palettes, asks great questions about the space and functionality of each rug, and steered me toward the best value, not the most expensive options. I am thrilled with the results, and especially the beautiful oriental rug he helped choose that was under my budget and looks AMAZING in my apartment. There is NOTHING "better" or even "good" about this business. We took two rugs into them to be cleaned. They lost one of them--just completely lost it. Gone! And we have been fighting with them for two months to get reimbursed. They are now trying to say we never brought the rug in, even though we have a receipt. When we brought the rugs in, they took copious photos of each. When we asked where the photos are, they said they've been misplaced. The worst part is that they are rude and not in the least bit apologetic. One guy called it a "slight discrepancy". Another told us that he thinks what we are saying is "fishy"!!!!!!! We are now forced to take legal action. The rug cost $700 originally. I'm sure it will cost us more to fight this but the way these guys have acted, we are determined to not let them get away with it. Do not go to this business. They will rip you off and try to pin it on you. read more

Avoid this place like the plague for rug cleaning. They refuse to take responsibility for their (and their subcontractors') screw ups. I took a $5000 carpet to be cleaned. It cam back discolored from the cleaning process. I had to PAY for them to send it back to be re-done. It came back the same way and they tried (like used-car salesmen) to convince me that the discoloration ws caused by wear and tear. Sleazy people. Stay away. read more

First, Mr. Wayne was extraordinarily informed about the carpets in the warehouse and he guided me and my spouse to the appropriate selection. The owner is not only a professional, he's a saint. While leaving your credit card information on file of course, he let me take home I can't even begin to keep track of how many rugs to see what would work in my home. They have a great selection from high-end, custom made to very affordable. The pictures on yelp really do not do him justice. He actually has a beautiful store. Everything is very well organized and easy to find. The area rug in my foyer is not here even one week and I'm already getting compliments on it.
