Our friends brought us here for breakfast on a Saturday morning and the place was packed! We got super lucky with a table big enough for us in the back. Definitely got the small town diner feel here, and everything on the menu sounded so good! They also have a specials board inside so make sure to take a look before you make your decision. I finally decided on the south of the border omelette, which also comes with hash browns or potatoes or fruit, and a biscuit or muffin or toast. Such a satisfying and filling meal! The omelette itself was not short on ingredients at all, and I loved the cilantro. The menu did mention homemade salsa but I didn't see any of that on the side or inside. Other than that, the eggs were cooked nicely. I picked the chorizo biscuit on the side and it was so soft and fluffy inside! I also appreciated the amount of options on the kids menu. There was plenty more options than just your standard pancake, bacon, and eggs. Our kids loved the pigs in a blanket which was actually quite big and perfect for our two kids to split. Service was awesome, our server was so kind and even brought out our friend's son's maple bar with a candle because he mentioned it was his birthday. We held my daughter and son-in-law's post-wedding brunch in the lovely back room at Bette's Place, technically called Bette's Korner. To say that the restaurant did a great job with our party is an understatement. A huge thank you to the amazing staff who served our group and made our celebration both effortless and delicious! Now a few comments on the food. Seriously, don't skip the pastries here since they're incredible. Since this was a party, I ordered trays of pastries for the group and got to try some of everything, including their enormous cinnamon rolls, maple bars, and fruit danish. All were the best I've ever had, although I had a special addiction to the maple bars. From there, our large group was able to order off their extensive regular menu. Every plate was gigantic and apparently very good (based on the appearance of our table at the end). I had their Crab Benedict which featured real crab drowning in tasty Hollandaise sauce. Bette's Place deserves all accolades. I'll remember our brunch there always. read more

Bette's Place is a charming, old-school breakfast joint. I came in at 9am on a Sunday and it was already almost full. I would recommend coming in as early as you can to snag a table. The service was welcoming and very attentive. I got the vegetarian omelette with hash browns and a pancake. It was quite a large portion, especially with the full sized pancake as a side. The omelette was stuffed full of nicely cooked veggies and a significant portion of fresh avocado. The hash browns were perfectly crispy. The pancake was pillowy, buttery, and soaked up the provided warm maple syrup in the most amazing way. The meal was hearty but overall the flavor was bland. The country jack skillet was heavy (which I expected) but there was little seasoning throughout the dish. This is one of the rare times I am writing about an American diner experience. Usually one would associate them with dry flavorless fare. That is until I had visited this place. Truly a quaint place with wholesome and delicious food options. I think I may have been deceived by the convenient, commercialized options. We'll now I know. I think when people say American breakfast - it should have well seasoned omelette options - fried, Benedict, omelette or may be just scrambled. Also included with side of fruits , hash browns or just potatoes. The omelettes to have different filling - isn't that capital! Bette's had all this where I could savor the unhurried hospitality and chefs skill both at same time. Quality first! You. An tell that the establishment care about the quality of food they serve. Service that immediately puts you at ease. Is this a five star rated place? No. Is this a Michelin star rated place? No. The reason I am speaking so much about this is because this is the base minimum of a restaurant. I feel that in the race of capitalism and the fast pace of life folks have forgotten what it is to be able to eat out and enjoy. What to expect from hospitality. If I could give 5 star ratings for the service and the professionalism to this establishment I would give it 10 times over. If this becomes the role model of American food experience, may be we hope to see more gastronomic choose to explore American fare. I am glad I chose to drive 5 mins to come and eat at a local breakfast place. We ordered 2 omeleetes, lemon French toast and a chorizo burrito. Normal stuff done great and with a lot of care. Taste on point. The only thing which took away from taste was the hash browns and the potatoes. Dry. Lemon French toast with mascarpone was a dream. Also everything that came out was fresh, the fruit was ripe as expected due to the local supply. The place had ample seating and was clean. There are a couple of dishes I would like to still try from their menu - the crab Benedict omelette, waffles, pies. Next time. If you are visiting Hood river I highly recommend you to go try this place. If nothing else it will help clear the dry, unappetizing opinion you might have of American food. read more

I stayed in Hood River for a family event this spring, and since our hotel didn't offer a free breakfast, I'd been scoping out potential places to go eat. Bette's was at the top of the list, and I'm so glad we ended up going. The smoked salmon and brie scramble had caught my eye on the online menu, and it was absolutely DELICIOUS. It wasn't too fishy, especially paired with the hashbrowns I got with it. The portion was massive, and I had plenty of leftovers to take home. It was almost better reheated, since the brie was able to melt a little more. Service was fast too, maybe because we were there after the main morning rush. We had a great breakfast at Bette's Place. Upon arriving, we were able to seat ourselves. Service was quick with us being offered drinks almost immediately. Once we were ready, our order was taken quickly. While we waited for food, we were offered a cinnamon roll. The cinnamon roll was huge and large enough for our three person party to share. The menu had tons of options. It was so difficult to choose because so much of it looked good. The food was delicious, portion sizes large, and the service was good. I read about this place in a oregon visitor's guide and it mentioned their plate-size cinnamon rolls but I didn't actually look it up beforehand so I pictured big but not GIGANTIC. i was kinda nervous when i walked in and saw the "self seating" sign as my usual experience is never getting served. however, the staff was super welcoming and the service was quick from ordering and receiving food! it was lovely of the staff to check in with us during our dining experience and was on top of it with the to go boxes! the dining setting was interesting! in the building, there was a suite designated to the restaurant and other suites for other businesses. there was dining within the restaurant and outside of the restaurant (but still in the building). i ordered the cinnamon french toast with scrambled eggs and ham. maple syrup and berry syrup was also provided - love the different options for syrups! i also got to try the eggs benedict with salmon and thats something im definitely ordering next time im here! 4/5 stars due to the cleanliness of the dining area, there were a few bugs/insects flying around during our meal read more

Yum, loved this place! Got the huevos rancheros and my date got the chorizo burrito. Both were delicious! Perfectly cooked, nice hash browns, nothing overly salted, good portions. I also got the side of fruit and it was amazing! Some of the freshest peach slices, unexpected from a diner, but felt like such an in-season treat. Touted as the "Friendlest Place in Town" and..it is! We've been to HR many times and have breezes by this place because it's fairly unassuming on the outside. This trip we wanted something new and my husband looked up this place. We were worried it'd be busy, but it is deceptively spacious. You self seat. First off, we sat down and a waitress immediately said I'll be with you soon. Then she apologized for taking all of 5 minutes of a busy holiday weekend to get our drink orders. I was in Hood River this week and Cody down at Doug's told me about it as well, so I went with the intent of buying one of their famous Cinnamon rolls. I was coming into town for my wedding and could NOT find a place to host brunch for about 30-35 guests the day after our wedding. I reached out to (no joke) 20 or so places, and mostly was ignored or denied. Then I found Bette's! I submitted a form on their website to inquire about my group and got in contact with Sheri. She calmed my nerves and basically said "no worries - we'll make it happen!" Every time we go to Hood River going to Bette's is a must!! Their crab Benedict is filled with so much fresh crab, a hollandaise sauce that is smooth and bright (and does not separate!!) along with crispy delicious hash browns (or fresh fruit or the delicious fried red potatoes) !! The biscuits and gravy has mounds of flavorful sausage gravy over 2 inch high biscuits! I can also suggest Betty's burrito filled with all of your favorite eggs, sausage cheese, hashbrowns, and topped inside with gravy! We always get the cinnamon roll to go, which is why I forgot to snap a photo Because by the time you're done with breakfast, there is no room, but you cannot go to Bette's without getting a cinnamon roll ! The place is a neighborhood community favorite so you're surrounded by Tourist but also the locals and you just find a table and seat yourself. I love that you can seat yourself. The booths are super cushy, with big windows that look out at the delightful Main Street passers by. Everything is kept very clean and organized. You can even see the plating chef in the back constantly cleaning up after each dish. Service was very fast and friendly. They use tablets, so the order is instantly transmitted to the kitchen, and food comes out quickly. The all day breakfast menu is comprehensive. Tables were cleared quickly and water refilled often. I had the number six special, but with hashbrowns instead of meat. The eggs were perfectly scrambled and the hashbrowns were nicely crisped. The pancakes were absolute perfection, with both maple and berry syrup and a big dollop of butter. My wife had the egg sandwich that she loved. Portions are large. We took off a star because we had their cherry pie for dessert, and besides being the color of cherries, it had absolutely no redeeming qualities.
