We missed the business hours the first trip and got there at 4:50 on the way back. The clerk was so kind to stay open nearly an hour longer so the five of us could shop and see the art and studios. (All of us are artists). She was more than gracious! I'm in a power wheelchair which got caught on the rug at the check out and she was completely unfazed and kind about me thrashing about, causing her to move many things. The prices were a bit steep on many things but that didn't stop me from buying a lot of goodies I've searched for a long time. I left very happy, and so did my companions! We will all gladly go again next year if not before!

AC Moore (more like Michaels) 4. Online (again, no one to answer questions, no way to touch and test supplies but can be less expensive, takes more time to get the art supplies). I have explored all the options. I found Michaels has the best selection of art cases in the bead aisle. There is a plastic two-sided container with handles which opens flat to see all the paints that I love. The paint brush selection, though, is pitiful. AC Moore was more crowded and uninspiring in materials. Although I love dickblick.com, there is a minimum order and delay in getting supplies. There is no one to ask. I had a special mod podge project to collage some porous houseplant pots, and then discovered that the mod podge doesn't protect the collage from water damage. Well, I wanted some fine artists supplies: unisom and schminke pastels, dark and light, winsor and newton or Williamsburg fine artists grade oil paint, workable fixative, and better paintbrushes. It cost too much, but the salesperson was able to answer my questions in detail and direct me to the correct items. Worth every penny.

If it's the afternoon the glare makes viewing a challenging. A door bell button activates a history of Poe's life and time at UVA. There is more than one history, so push the button again for more short audios. None of the furnishings are original. It's cool, but not a must see in my opinion.

Room 13 West is Poe's, and it is surrounded by rooms of active graduate students at the University. The room has a glass panel in the door so you can look through and see what it would have looked like in Poe's day -- including a bed, hat, and coat that were all owned by Poe himself! The recording by the door gives you a brief history of Poe's time at UVa, providing insight both into his life and the life of University students at the time. Make this room a stop on your trip through C'ville if your a fan of all things spooky, or stop by if you're touring the University.
