This is a very long overdue review...  Over the course of several years we worked with Cyndi Mosher at Beyond the Box on a complete rebuild of our Westside home in Santa Cruz. The project was primarily an owner build, so between that and the pandemic it ended up being a multi-year project.  Over the course of planning and building we worked very closely with Cyndi - not only on the designs for our kitchen and bathrooms but for general design help throughout the house. Cyndi was absolutely wonderful to work with throughout the whole process. Not only was she incredibly knowledgeable, professional, and helpful - she had an inordinate amount of patience (and tact!) in helping us navigate through the thousands of decisions that had to be made. She was adept at creating a cohesive design out of our rather ad hoc lists of likes and dislikes, and did so without imposing her own personal preferences or style. My husband and I also both appreciated that she was very pragmatic - she understood that we weren't interested in building a mansion and was very good about pointing out the areas where it made sense to spend and where it didn't. Her knowledge and contacts in the business were invaluable, both in terms of the quality of the workmanship we ended up with as well as access to resources that we would not have been able to find on our own. When it came time to order all our cabinets and countertops she handled every last detail, and made sure that what we ultimately received exactly matched her specifications. I was originally hesitant to hire a designer, both because of the additional cost and also because my husband and I are both fairly practical and were more interested in function over form. We have no regrets - engaging Cyndi to help us with the project was money that was very well spent. Not only did it prevent expensive mistakes, but we love the results. After living in the house for over a year I can honestly say that there isn't anything that she helped design that I would do differently if given the chance. If you are looking for a great kitchen design then look no further. I went to Beyond The Box Kitchen Design Studio to design my kitchen because I had heard that this was fantastic kitchen design company but I ended up buying my cabinets and counters there as well. My expectations were truly met. The designer (Cyndi) was really in tune to my tastes and lifestyle. It was obvious that she was an experienced and qualified kitchen designer right away. She is a certified kitchen designer affiliated with the NKBA. She made great recommendations in all aspects of the process. It is apparent right away that she stays current with the latest in kitchen products and services. It was easy to talk about issues such as the cost of the project, the time frame for completion, and information on products. In my opinion Cyndi has a really good eye for detail. She also had a reference list of contractors. In my case I already had a contractor. She easily worked with and interfaced with my contractor/architect throughout to ensure that the kitchen met my rather high expectations. And here is the greatest thing of all....she took the time to point out some of the common pitfalls that saved me time, effort, and money. She used a great software program to layout the kitchen and gave excellent advice on the placement and type of appliances, lighting design, and cabinet hardware and storage solutions. We worked with Cyndi on a remodel of our kitchen, dining and living room space. She did an amazing job in every aspect! She made our kitchen go from feeling cramped to spacious. She pretty much nailed it with her first set of drawings. We changed very little from her original concept to the final design. It was well thought out and her attention to detail with regard to useability was great. She came out to the house several times to help with redesigning and adding additional lighting (it was so dark previously in our living and dining room!), changing our windows in the kitchen, and designing built ins for our dining room to add additional storage space. She also came out another time to go over the usage of every single cabinet and the sizes of items I would be storing in there. As a result, everything has it's own home now with plenty of room to spare. This was in a kitchen that we couldn't put all our dishes away in formerly due to lack of storage space. When we needed to trim a little from our overall project budget, she took the time to make suggestions as to where and how we could cut back just a bit. I felt her design fees were appropriately priced and we received great value for our investment. I had debated on whether or not to use a designer as we began the project and I can say with all certainty that without her, our finished product would be missing so many things I would never have thought of. Having her designs also made it easy to go to the city of Campbell for approval and also saved us money with the architects that were required to create drawings for us. They leveraged her plans. We engaged Cyndi to design our kitchen and we are so glad we did. We had lots of ideas about what we wanted, and even had ideas about the layout, but Cyndi's solution was even better than we could have imagined. In 2015, we went through a 5 month kitchen design, delivery and installation process with Cyndi at BTB. Kitchen design, for those who are contemplating it for the first time, is a very immersive and time consuming process that truly tests the mettle of both the designer and the home owners! Cyndi helped us with a full kitchen design, ordered cabinets from Ovation, helped with selection of materials (backsplash, handles, granite) and gave general feedback on aesthetics. She provided us with a new kitchen layout that transformed how it looks and make it more usable in some areas. For example, we were considering a beverage fridge under the middle island. Cyndi suggested a very different layout of a wall of closets and appliances, resulting in a new counter space, better placement of the fridge and new look that is much more pleasing. Cyndi also helped us through a challenging contractor transition. Our first contractor left us in a bind when he quit in the middle of the project. Cyndi was able to recommend a new contractor who was, at the end, much better, more organized and able to handle the challenges of the install and our increasing levels of stress as the project went on. Cyndi's help continued after the install. One of the trash drawer shelved (Rev-a-shelf) broken down after a year. She was able to facilitate this warranty issue with Ovation and hand delivered the replacement part quickly. Although her office is in Santa Cruz, Cyndi was able to come over the hill to our home in Los Gatos numerous times and accommodate the schedule surrounding our dual work and dual kid schedules! Redesigning your dream kitchen should be FUN!!! The most important thing that makes it fun is the journey you take to get there. Taking that journey with Cyndi was absolutely the best. I'm a project manager and work in construction during the day and know good designers from not-so-good and I would gladly go through the design process with Cyndi again in a heartbeat. Cyndi proved her value over and over again with the best material recommendations and helped my wife and I make the right decisions for us. We are bold people and Cyndi helped us stay tastefully bold and beautiful. We absolutely love our kitchen, especially the red quartz countertops. But even more, we appreciated Cyndi for her patience, approach and guidance in pulling it all together. We also purchased our cabinets through Cyndi and I'm glad we did. Timing was perfect for us to get an upgrade and save money with a better product. Also, her tight coordination with the manufacturer showed when the installation took place. When there were issues, we all worked together to figure out the solution so that there was a win/win for everyone.
