The store is very dated and not in the nicest part of the city but the staff make you feel very welcome. To look at this place you would probably avoid it but they arranged my wedding hire without a hitch. The groom, best man, fathers and page boys looked fantastic and they actually had to remind me about a lot of things. They obviously have a lot of experience as they could tell my husbands size just from looking at him! Rather like are you being served but were really great.

The staff were really attentive and very pleasant and personable without being in your face! Because it was a special occasion I had booked a cabin. I chose a spa cabin, a little bit more expensive than the standard but still excellent value and the jacuzzi was enormous! After a bottle of bubbly and a luxurious soak in the bubbles we were ready for our bed on the mezzanine. The rooms were terrifically well appointed and quite by far the most reasonably priced luxury we've enjoyed in a long time. I have a feeling we're going to be holding a lot more celebrations at The Gardeners!

They have an indoor swimming pool, gym and golfing grounds. We only managed to take advantage of the pool and gym. The room itself is spacious and very cozy. We took advantage of the kettle in the room to make ourselves some tea that night. And I had no problem falling asleep on their comfy mattress. Unfortunately breakfast ends around 10 or 10:30am (I can't remember) and we missed it due to sleeping in late. I do wish breakfast would be kept open later till at least 11am so that guests could have a good lie in. All the staff here are super friendly and helpful, which is a bonus! Other than that, the next time I'm in Hull I'll book a longer stay at Cave Castle and take advantage of all the amenities. My stay was far too short for such an amazing place!

Burton Agness hall is a fine example of an Elizabethan home, surrounded by well kept tranquil…read moregardens with topiary and sprawling lawned areas, great for picnics and kids to run around. The hall itself is most impressive with wonderfully ornate furnishings, sculptures and paintings. The guide was very knowledgeable telling us all about the hall's history and the present owners family. There was a lift for the use of wheelchairs so the whole house was accessible, a very good day out at a wonderful old English home.

Used laterooms.com to find a B&B close to the address I was visiting; I wanted to be in walking distance. Effectively I got £5 off the usual price of £40 per night. Their site suggests higher rates, and when it charges £85 per night then this place is not in that category. I checked the site when I got back and a single room would have cost me £35, not £40 as quoted by laterooms.com. So make that of it what you will. A double is quoted as £65, and there is no way that I would have paid £65 for the room that I had. So, paying £35 for the room and breakfast was pretty reasonable. A slight problem at the start. The flipping laterooms.com site insists on entering a time of arrival. I really hadn't a clue. I knew when the funeral was going to take place but there was an additional itinerary, and I didn't know the times. So, I put 18:00. However, I also put in the special requests: Difficult to say regarding the arrival time. Anyway, after the funeral I had a better idea about timings, and decided to check-in just after 13:00 as the information I had said check-in from 13:00 to 20:00. I arrived at the hotel at about 13:20. Rang the bell no response, and then tried the telephone number and left a message. Fortunately, another guest arrived, and they told me the owners had gone out. The gentleman went inside, and brought down an information sheet with the owner's mobile number on it, and I rang. It was answered, and I said who I was, and she replied that they weren't expecting me until 18:00. To which I responded about my note, and also said that if I had said earlier and not arrived they wouldn't have been best pleased. They arrived a little while later, and we had the same conversation again. They should make the mobile number generally available if they are unlikel;y to be in to receive the guest. As a suggestion to the hosts.... Make you mobile available to guests on the booking form. I was told I was being upgraded to a double room. Pretty small for a double, but hey! I was paying £35. Got changed for the afternoon walk. Returned back at about 19:20. Decided to have a shower, left it running for a while, but no hot water. The pressure was none too good. Next morning hot water, same pressure. What I did notice was how exceptionally clean the glass was in the shower. Plus, not like more expensive places I have stayed where there is black mould in the grout. None of this. I found the very small sink difficult to use, with the shelf above. The sort of sink you find in downstairs' toilets in modern houses. Shaver point in the bathroom No hairdryer, but this £35 per night. Strange that the details the other guest had weren't in my room. They appear to have 9 rooms to rent. The bed was very comfortable, but I'm not sure I could have shared the duvet with my wife had she been there too. The towels were quite small and lack a bit of quality/thickness. But this is £35 per night. I went to get a paper and had hoped to read it in the lounge at about 08:00, but the door was locked, and had a combination lock. So went back to my room and returned at 08:25. Access. Breakfast is served from 08:30, as I didn't have an information sheet I was unsure if that time changes at the weekend, if anyone is planning a visit. The breakfast was grilled bacon (2 slices) and sausage (one) with fried egg, beans, mushrooms (two), half of a grilled tomato. All very tasty. Cereal and orange juice was also available, and grapefruit segments. Plus toast, butter, and preserves. Lovely small pot of tea. Couldn't fault it for the £35 per night price. The chap was quite friendly, I found his wife rather more matter of fact. Not easily approachable. Perhaps she still wasn't happy about me arriving early. Anyway she didn't engage in conversation much with me; although I did try. All the messages in the guest book are highly complimentary, but would you leave your address and say something bad?
