The chicken skewer peanut sauce was great, but the skewers themselves were more like American chicken tenders; not really the grilled chicken I was expecting. The fried wontons were also good. I'm not sure what the filling was-- it was almost hot dog-like, but not. The crispyness of the wonton made up for the slightly odd flavor though. The service was also an interesting one. My family of 5 decided to share everything we got, so when our appetizers came out we asked for extra plates to share everything. Our waiter came back with two plates. For the five of us. We had ordered 3 appetizers, so we just added those three plates to the two that they'd given us to make five but... you honestly just have to laugh. There were also a number of times when we asked for something and we weren't sure if they had heard us because there was no indication that they had (a nod. a wink. a salute. anything). But! The food came out crazy fast, so no need to worry about sitting around for too long. This was our last meal in Munich-- thank you for the meal!

Not a wide variety, but the items they do have are well put together and consist of quality ingredients, which are also, fortunately, quite tasty. Chestnut soup and classic tar tar, for example, as starters appear on the menu but you can also find your basic, but delicious, wiener schnitzel along with filet and halibut fish as well as an interesting-sounding (none of us ordered it) pumpkin strudel. So, with such few items they sure seem to cover all their bases. The prices also reflect the quality and presentation. The decor is simple and modern, clean and refined. Service could be a little warmer, but they did their job (nothing more nothing less), which in Munich is still noteworthy. Easy to reach with the Tram 16 (Friedensengel) or a short walk from Max Weber platz. Ironically, this is just around the corner from where I live but it took us a while to get to it; we weren't in a hurry after it changed hands 3 times in the last couple of years. But glad we finally made it in, it's worth the trip, even if you don't live around the corner!

I chose to have a rice noodle soup with beef for lunch and it was a decent portion in a nice spicy broth. It wasn't so spicy but has a nice flavour. The meat was tender and the noodles were cooked just right. The ladies who run the place were very friendly and welcoming and the food arrived pretty quickly after the order. I will come back and try some of their seafood dishes one evening, as they have a good selection of fish on the menu. All in all a reasonable lunch which was tasty in a simple surrounding. Everything is grey, and the last sparks of my life are escaping via cough, leaving scratchy trails of pain behind in my throat. I need to reconstitute. I need nutrition. I need hydration. I need food that doesn't taste like beer or frying oil. And I need this within the span of a lunch break. The prescription: Vietnamese food. Both Co Be and Anh Thu were approximately a 10 minute walk from me, but not wanting to add finanical illiquidity to my litany of post-Wiesn woes, I opted for Co Be. It was a good decision. Indeed, the garish, yellow sign makes this place look from the outside like a Brazilian kiosk selling cigarettes and Joe Bu dolls. But the inside is rather nicely appointed. The service greeted me pleasantly, and I never felt myself waiting endlessly for anything I needed/wanted. I ordered the bo ot ax from the midday menu (beef with vegetables with an allegedly spicy sauce), selected the salad from my choice of salad or spring rolls for side dish, and ordered a whole pot of ginger tea as well. Grand total was €10. Not bad for Schwabing. Not bad for a whole pot of tea. The food itself is good here, but, like most all Asian food in Germany, doesn't wow me. It's just not as spicy and brightly flavoured as one finds elsewhere. But that is more the result of adapting to the German palate, which is notoriously finicky and incompatible with spice, and this is therefore to be expected. Only the ginger tea failed to meet expectations. They don't brew it in advance, so either you have to let it steep for the duration of your meal, or allow only the last cup or two to really be of full strength. That said, this meal met my expectations for this price range in Germany, and I will probably come here again during the midday for lunch again. Thing is, the experience here just needs to be refined. All the bases have been covered well enough for me to come here by myself for lunch, but not well enough that I'd show this restaurant off. Example #1: The service gave a friendly greeting (good!), but then pointed me over the shoulder to a table behind her (eh...could have been more professionally executed). Example #2: Nice, sleek decor with white table cloths (good!), but sauce stains on the table cloth for my table (eh...couldn't that have been changed before this table was made available?) Conclusion: I'll come here again, perhaps someday even with a colleague, but I'm not raving about this place or particularly recommending it.
