First, for those who don't know it, Value Village is not a non-profit or a charity. It is…read moreprivately owned and makes a huge profit. Nothing wrong with that, but I wish they would not try to give the impression that they are a charity. Last time I was in the cashier thanked me for donating to Diabetes. Not true, no profits are shared with Diabetes. Read about it on the internet. Now for my review of the Belleville store: Pluses: The store is clean and well laid-out, and open late hours for people like me. Minuses (some really odd minuses): - They hang up pants on the racks in an awkward sideways way, makes no sense at all so I don't shop for pants there, it is too irritating. - They push clothing and other hanging items tight together on the rack so you have some items tight together then an empty rack for a couple of feet. Why not space the items out so they can be seen. - They put sticky price tags in the worst places on an item - on the front of things where they are next to impossible to remove. Using fingernail polish remover etc. only makes a mark on the item where the glue was. THINK, people, put the stickers on the back where they can do the least damage. Especially, don't put stickers on glass! UPDATE - Most of the stickers have disappeared off the glass since I was last there. - Prices can be astronomical - more than you would pay for the item new in many cases. - Dishes. Why on earth would anybody take a perfectly nice set of dishes and break it up? So... we have a set of dishes. We decide to put the side dishes with all the odd side dishes. We decide to put the dinner plates with the odd dinner plates, completely separate from the other parts of the set. We decide to break up a nice teapot-creamer-sugar bowl set and put the teapot with the odd teapots, the creamer with the odd creamers, and the matching sugar bowl way over there with the odd sugar bowls. I can't bear to go on, it is too ridiculous. UPDATE - Last time I was in, this seems to be much improved - most dishes sets are reunited and it is so much nicer and easier to find matching things... - Along the same lines, they will take a set of curtains and price them separately, and put one curtain over here and the other matching one on a separate hanger 6 feet away. Come on, people, who buys just one curtain panel? Why not keep the set together? Clearly this boggles my mind. - Pictures are often placed sideways instead of right side up on the picture shelves. Since there is lots of room and no good reason to place the pictures sideways so they cant be seen, ya really gotta wonder who is doing these things. A chimp? No, a trained monkey could probably do better. And what is management doing while staff are placing pictures sideways? Sleeping on the job? - Although most items for sale are clean and serviceable, for some reason the furniture area is full of dirty junk that nobody would every buy. What's up with that? - Staff can be nice or they can be snarky, it's a crapshoot if you need to speak to one of them. Some are very nice and others just wish they were somewhere else. - Cashiers can get long lineups and don't call for another cashier to help. Sometimes there is only one cashier, who pays no attention (and neither does any other staff) to the long lineups. I have found that if I leave the lineup and search for a supervisor they will gladly put someone else on cash, but why cant they figure this out for themselves? (And now I've lost my place in the lineup.) All in all, it is the only game in town for some items and their system is well thought out (except for the above points).

However I have found many nice things there also, including some clothes, dishes, and some very good furniture and lamps. I would like to see them clean up the clothing a bit, for example remove the ladies pants with elastic in the waist that is no good. Remove stained and ripped clothing. Sort things better so you can find what you want. Remove chipped dishes. Remove things that have been there forever, that is a biggy as they don't seem to have any system for weeding out things that don't sell. Don't put stuff on the shelf if it is clearly worn out or junk. And they desperately need another change room, the only one they have is cramped and always has somebody in it so I end up either waiting a long time to try something on or putting the clothes back and not buying anything. In spite of all that it is one of my favourite thrift shops, maybe because they are so friendly and there are some treasures to be found occasionally.

The musician just said, "I'm naked and I'm coming over to your house." The song even pauses after the word "come" a couple of times. Way to sexual for public! This type of music does not belong in civil society let alone in a shopping establishment. I was told that Head Office is in charge of the music and they can't do anything about it. The people responsible for the music are obviously perverts and are ok with sexualizing little kids.

They sell fake hockey, basketball, and football jerseys--clearly knockoffs from China--but price them as if they're authentic. Jerseys that cost $20 on Alibaba or Temu are being marked up to $80-$100 here. It's misleading and unfair to customers who might not realize they're buying counterfeits at inflated prices. Overall, it's disappointing. A thrift store is supposed to provide value, but here it feels like you're paying more than retail for secondhand or fake goods. Definitely not worth the trip.

It is always funny to see the occasional Used dollar store item priced higher than the original price. If a person was to look at Giant Tiger prices on small NEW appliances, home decor and pet carriers they would see a similar price to Value Village but get a clean, new, warrantied item. It's funny to see a salt rock on the shelf for $19.99 when you can get the same one in the "As see on TV" Store NEW in the box for $19.99. When you see multiple reviews comparing there prices to BRAND NEW prices, it may be time to shop around. I don't know which sites they use for pricing but those sites are not always correct. I have looked items up on eBay and Amazon and the prices can be double from one site to the next. I thought the whole concept was to give people a chance to get deals and help out local charities. I was shocked to hear how low of a percentage actually goes to charity.

We found some great items in the store ranging from beautiful furniture, decor, bread mixes, jams, maple syrup, quilts, barn quilts (that PEC is known for), clothes, painting and more. We picked a variety of items and Mr. H loved the chocolate chip biscuits a lot! They have a smaller selection and prices are a bit higher, so I tend to be picker when selecting items to buy here. The store is fairly well laid out, and I appreciate that the clothing is color coded (Talize does this as well, but Value Village does not). I also like that the price of the item decreases the longer it's on the sales floor, which is unique. I often think of consigning here, but to be honest after reading the rules on the website, it seems like it would be a bit of a hassle. For example, it says that they don't accept items over 2 years old. How on earth can they tell (besides the item being in poor condition)? One time when I inquired about consigning, they told me about all the "cheaper" brands that they don't accept...yet every time I go in, I see those brands! It's also strange that on the website it says that Danier is one of their best selling brands, yet they say they don't accept leather coats (yes I understand Danier doesn't JUST have leather jackets, but you get where I'm coming from). Also, this might just be me, but I wish the change rooms had actual doors and not just curtains. I don't know how many times a lady has just waltzed right into my change room while I'm changing!
