The sunlight throughout the building creates a bright, peaceful atmosphere that makes spending hours there feel comfortable. One of the things I love most about this library is that despite how popular and busy it can be, it remains incredibly quiet. People are respectful, and there is a shared sense of consideration that makes it an ideal place to concentrate. My favorite study area includes comfortable cushioned chairs and large tables that give you plenty of space to spread out and truly settle in for long study sessions. The library also feels thoughtfully designed to encourage productivity and comfort, with clean, well maintained spaces and a welcoming layout that never feels overwhelming. I found a wide variety of fiction and non-fiction books in both official languages -- a different selection from my neighbourhood library, which is good because I've pretty much read all the way through their English fiction section in a year. There are lots of little tables for working, each with a reading lamp and a plug for a laptop, most near a window. This library branch seemed like a really nice place for working or studying. On my way out I noticed 2 Communauto parking spots in the library parking lot -- yay for community services all in one place!

The wifi in McLennan for non-students is quite wack (and possibly hacked) but aside from that I just adore this library. I love sitting by the big windows, I love digging through the giant stacks and discovering the worlds of incredible research in here. The law library is astonishing and modern and deeply quiet. (Thanks lawyers.) Every library in the McGill network has its own gemlike qualities and are just lovely inspiring places to spend time (maybe not during finals.)

I love my local library. I love how it has everything I need…read morewithout being overwhelming, unlike big national libraries that have floors and floors of books and documents. There's an ample supply of books for adults, teens and children in both english and french. In more recent years, they've expanded their collection of movies, music and video games which can all be borrowed free of charge. One of my favorite features is that you can make a suggestion for a book if the library doesn't have it, they'll put it on their next order list. An author I adore was coming out with a new novel and instead of rushing out to the bookstore, I knew I could rely on my public library to have it in stock when it came out. In the past, there used to be a small fee for reserving books but that has now been lifted. You can borrow books for 21 days and even extend that time if no one else reserved it. All that done with a click of a button from your online account, accessible from home. Like all libraries, they have great staff on hand to help you with your search or for suggestions. There are many activities for children, particularly during summer, book clubs, seminars on job hunting like writing CVs, to parenting tips or homework help. There are designated areas to study and read peacefully, or rooms you can book for group projects. Many computers and printing services available and free wifi throughout. It's a beautiful, modern looking building with recent technologies and a wealth of information to surpass the average person. Although the library may be inhabited by many students, I encourage anyone and everyone to take a look, get back into reading - discover something new. Best of all, it's free.

Things I really like about this place:…read more - The Set up:  english and french fiction novels separated in 2 huge sections, but then the rest organized by topic (more or less). So that means all french and english books for Fashion (Cooking, Art etc..), for example, will be found side by side. Whereas if you're looking for the latest fiction novel from your favorite author it will be either in the french fiction section or the english fiction section depending on which language you're looking for. This is great for us bilingual people who don't mind informational books in any language but may prefer to read a story in our mother tongue. - Adults separated from Kids: Half childrens library, half adults library, kool again. Haven't tripped over a single kiddo while perusing the books. The kids section looks like lots of fun too, very eye-pleasing, but haven't been here with childers yet so can't speak to the quality. - Easy to use catalog system on their computers, fairly decently placed to find what you need in most areas of the library without having to trek back to the front. - Easy self check out system too - Extensive collection of books, magazines, movies, music etc to borrow. You can even have them ordered from other librairies if they are missing something in particular and another Mtl library has it. I'm not a big fan of 2 things: - Closes early Fridays, I would love to spend a Friday evening at the library, but it closes at 5 so not possible. - In house selection not quite as good as I'd hoped for certain topics, I was hoping to borrow a few knitting books, but not much selection to be desired. *** P.S. The library will close in Fall of 2019 until late 2021 during renovations and expansion. It will be temporarily relocated during this period (they will announce where later in the year). The grand re-opening is expected for "late 2021": a comic book theme to highlight LaSalle's impressive comic book collection and a café with 40 indoor and 40 outdoor seats are to be among the improvements I look forward to checking out! ***
