I bought a new chain elsewhere earlier in the day but needed a connecting pin & thought I'd grab one from Noel as I happened to be in the area. I then thought I might as well get them to put it on & Noel happily offered as they weren't busy - note it is always wise to check the cost at this point which I didn't do. Noel offered a $9 quick link which I accepted. About 5 mins later the mechanic had fitted the chain & ran through the gears. Finally I paid at which time the mechanic advised he tuned the gears and charged me... $59. Their price list shows a full bike service as $99, and hub/headset rebuilds as $45, so paying $49 for an unexpected 5min tune would probably be considered by most as quite excessive & unfair. Another appropriate word would be deceitful. That's one hefty chain fitting. Buyer beware

Received a quote for approx. $30 +Cost of nipples estimated around $2 per nipple. Dropped off the wheel on Saturday, stripped of cassette, tyres and wheel tape (all that was required was changing nipples out) and made a point of double checking the quote of approx. $30+ parts. I also asked for a call back regarding a price to change out the bearings. I received no communication all week, so I called up Friday and firstly was told they weren't sure where my wheel was, after it was found I was told it was being brought back to the Norwood store from the city and I would get a call when it was returned. I asked for extra nipples to be added for spares and that my wife would pick them all up the next day. Come 330pm Saturday I had received no contact yet again so I called up, once again was told wasn't sure where my wheel, after they found it I was informed that they had performed a 'wheel rebuild' and I would be charged $168. $120 for labour and $48 for parts. Obviously shocked at the difference, I questioned; had bearings been changed, spokes been changed, something other than what I asked for and was quoted for? No, and there is nothing we can do for you was the answer. Of course my wife picked it up and received no extra nipples and upon inspection I have found that the wheel isn't even true. All I can do is make an impassioned plea that if you take your business to bicycle express please keep one hand on your wallet because you can be sure they'll be trying to rob you!

They always have plenty of end of season stock and anyone in the biz knows you save hundreds and truth be known these things haven't changed much in the past 100 years. If you have the urge to ride then you'll jump on any old thing. I would list the brands in stock but they're are so many you're better off just getting down there and mounting your new two wheel steed.

I like the fact they have attention to detail and that the people who work there are people who actually know their stuff and care about bicycles. Since it isn't located right in the main CBD, not many people might know that their shop is there, but they are definitely worth going to if you are looking for a new bicycle, bicycle gear or if you need something repaired.

The service I have received from this store, particularly Aaron, from the point I reported this has been absolutely second to none. These things happen, and at times are out of the control of the store themselves. But the accountability shown by these guys in handling the issue, getting the ball rolling in having them repaired and making sure I was looked after has blown me away. I also need to change over the free hub body and Aaron also arranged this for me after I ran into a dead end here from the local distributor. A big thanks to Aaron in the shop and the team there. Absolutely outstanding customer care and assistance, they have seen to it that my wheels are ready to be installed onto the bike. They will happily take a…read morelook at the bike you are riding at the moment and give you some tips as to what you need to make it better - possibly extra reflectors or a mud guard or a bell - you never know until you ask. They have ample off road parking and a lot of stock. The strapping young fellows on staff are always keen to assist if you need some help and they all ride bikes to some degree so they know what they are talking about; you can tell this because they all look like bookmarks with shoulders and slightly spiky hair cuts that bounce back without getting all helmet headish. They tend to look windswept in a nice way. Most bike shops have a slightly odd smell because of all the rubber and plastic, and there's not much to be done about that, so if you get allergies or are a little put off by strong rubbery odor, remember to bring a handkerchief for the runny nose or sneezes (I'm just saying) because I often have a sneezing fit in a place like this on a warm day. Over all what can you say about a bike shop really? It is modern and stacked full of anything you may need including helmets, wheels, tires, pumps, reflectors, bells, hooter things to warn oncoming traffic of your impending doom, or their impending lawsuit. Parents with fat children should bring them here and introduce them to a life. No seriously - this is one of the best ways for kids to get around, a single big spend and you'll hardly ever need to upgrade your Xbox or Wii because they will be fit, healthy and playing outdoors not getting fat in their room playing computer games! From trail bikes, to road bikes, the range is almost overwhelming. Then there are every kind of cycling accessory you could think of. From a range of 100 helmets to bike tubes, just an endless wall of extras. They also have a dedicated bike repair area. The staff were really helpful and very knowledgeable. This is where my next bike will come from.
