I felt the drinks were a little over priced for what I was getting I bought a cocktail at this restaurant not long ago and it was literally 8 bucks for a small glass really just a single sip. fair enough I got my food and can't say i enjoyed that either I felt it had little taste what so ever... I am a person that only enjoys writing good reviews. So for me to give a poor review to something that is not a chain, and in my community is hard to do. But this place is beyond horrid. From the uneatable "market priced" meat and cheese plate to the tasteless schnitzel I was beyond underwhelmed. The only thing that was good was the the chip Dip... not the "homemade chips". The "homemade chips" consisted of deep fried Ruffles served in a fancy basket. This place has a cool look, but I wouldn't go there unless it was forced upon me by a friend I was proving a point to. This place is a great place to hang out and just pass time while enjoying a very good variety of beer and food. Staff is friendly and enthusiastic, also Tuesday is the day to hang out at night, the atmosphere on this day is one of a kind, I recommend coming with a group of friends they have Trivia and just lots of people to talk to and enjoy the night. Amazing place to eat or drink. They have live acoustic music on the weekends and the best beer list I think I've ever seen! (Outside of a brewery) I had the Guten Morgan and my table got the carving board. They were both outstanding! I will definitely be revisiting this bar for the food and beer! read more

One of my favorite places to be! Their seating concept is awesome! Nowadays people sit on their phones instead of enjoying their company but this place doesn't let you do that, they encourage you to talk to people and meet new friends! Their food is unbelievably amazing and the drinks are phenomenal. My friends and I love trying new beers and this is the perfect place to explore! The staff is so cool and kind and make you feel so welcome. And don't make you feel dumb for not being able to pronounce all of the German beers lol. 5 stars all around!!! Bierkeller is great whether you are going somewhere to eat or whether you are looking to hang out for some drinks. The food was excellent very fresh and well prepared. I have been there twice now and will say I do plan to return for brunch as that was really good. I was impressed with the layout they had for the mimosas and bloody mary drinks. It was fun and easy. I imagine it would be a little bit harder if the restaurant was packed but I was with 2 others and we arrived at 10am and it was perfect. The food and service were great. It was nice to see the drink area being cleaned and replenished constantly. It was obvious the manager cared about presentation which I appreciated! I visited with my husband and my friend this past Saturday for dinner and to inquire about having a group event for brunch. The waitress we had did not seem very interested in booking us and I HD the same reaction when I called earlier in the week. I found this a little odd but she said to call a few days prior and it will be no problem. Hopefully this remains true by our early April gathering! The food overall was good. We ordered the chips to try as an appetizer but despite reminding our waitress twice we didn't get them until right before our meals came. The chicken ceasar tacos were recommended by the waitress but they didn't have much to then. We also had the chicken and waffles which wasn't bad and my husband was really impressed with the braut he ordered. If I was just rating on the brunch it would have been a heavy 4 but the waitstaff at the dinner and the weak chicken ceasar tacos and small chip amount in the appetizer plus the lack of help in reserving a small space for our group brought my rating down. Update: My husband and I had reserved a space 3 weeks ago for about 12 people. We were having a small gathering of friends and family to meet for brunch and celebrate as we announced the sex of our first baby. Bierkeller is a central location for everyone and has delicious food. Absolutely no complaints about the quality of food. However the food came out in sections. One got her meal a full 20 minutes before the first plate came out. The last one came out 20 minutes after everyone else had finished eating. It was horribly organized. Out waitress was a disaster. She told us at one point that her "brain hurt" from all the thinking. I believe she was also bar tending and had one other table. This was such poor planning from the restaurant. She was clearly overwhelmed and therefore being sloppy in her order placing and giving us attention. The manager was very nice. He introduced himself and was wonderful in offering us a place in the fridge to keep our cake and offering to slice it which we appreciated. Overall, amazing food but terrible service again. I was embarrassed and disappointed that my guests, many of whom were first timers, got the poor impression that they did from the waitress. read more

I stopped by here on New Year's Eve, and I was blown away! I could not believe that this little gem was in Taylor and I had missed it all along. I had seen the outside of Bierkeller, and I thought that it would be a dive bar from the looks of the building. I loved what I saw when I entered. The picnic style seating is comfortable, and the beer was great. My favorite part was the toast that the manager/owner gave at 9pm. I loved that the whole bar stopped to toast together. They got me to visit with an offer for all you can eat perch. This offer may have been rescinded after I left. I can eat perch. Not sure if anyone took them serious before as my perch got smaller with each plate. Still a fun bar until the entertainment started. Acoustics are horrible. The food is great with lots of interesting selections. I will be returning for the German chili! We finally had a chance to go and were we ever glad we did. This place is totally AUSGEZEICHNET ! ! ! :-D Britany took wonderful care of us out on the patio and the weather was very cooperative. We no longer live in the area, but spotted the Bierkeller on the way by and knew we had to stop in next chance we got. The bier selection is awesome and the prices are great. The menu is fantastic and we will definitely be back. It really seems like a place done by people who really care and that is so rare these days. We were both hungry and exhausted, but Britany made sure we were well taken care of. We ordered drinks and they came right away. My wife enjoyed her Miller Lite and I really enjoyed my Spaten Oktoberfest ! It was perfectly poured and absolutely the right temperature. I felt like I was again in Germany ! We got an appetizer and Britany recommended the Keller Cakes (potato pancakes), which came right away and really hit the spot. There are several other appetizers on the menu that also look very interesting, so definitely need to return. My wife had the Chicken & Waffles, which she has never had before, but sounded tasty. I had the Bacon Blue Burger. I know, I know, we didn't have anything "German," but they have a really varied menu and it all looks great ! She really enjoyed the new experience of waffles, which she loves, and a chicken schnitzel with bacon and cheddar on top. My burger was spot on! I asked for medium rare to medium and it came out a perfect pink inside and super juicy. A perfectly done burger ! :-) We felt so much better after enjoying a great meal with great beer and excellent service. Such a great surprise when there are so many disappointments when dining out. If only we lived closer, this would absolutely be our regular spot :) This place is another gem and we are looking forward to going back. read more

First, the place just opened, but you wouldn't know it. Well run, well staffed. I didn't see any thing I didn't like. A great beer selection for the Down River area. They have Bud and Labatt, but they also have great beers that you won't find at any other restaurant in the area. I got Founders pale ale that was from a nitrogen tap. Smooth with the right amount of hops. At 9 p.m. the bar keeper read a toast out loud and proclaimed the next hour to be $2 Magic Hat #9's. Try the Konig Ludwig Hefeweizen. I ate the Sweaty Pig pulled pork sandwich on an everything roll. Had spicy coleslaw on it. It was good. Served with chips for $7. My wife had Spatzel (Bacon, Cheddar and Hungarian Paprika) and potato pancakes. She raved about the spatzel. It changes daily, thus named Spatzel of the day. Wife said she'd go back for the Spatzel alone. The owner and his fiancée were very nice. He is VERY knowledgeable about beer. We spoke for several minutes. He offered to order me a case of beer, from his distributer, that I have to drive down to Ohio to get. I thought that was very thoughtful. Again, the place just opened but ran very well. Oh, the seating is communal. You get in where you fit in. The tables are long rustic and wooden. If there is an opening you will be sat. Not sure if it's a total five, but better than a four. Had a couple of beers, all very reasonably priced. Beer selection was good, 30+ taps. Menu was not huge, but what I had was very good. Sweaty pig, a pulled pork sandwich with spicy slaw was quite tasty. Service at the bar was great. Picnic table set up, which I think is great for meeting people which I like to do if I am out with others. Tried it due to reviews on Yelp on a short trip from Cleveland. Two thumbs WAY UP! I've lived Downriver my entire life. I made a date with my dad to grab a burger and a beer tonight. Out of the blue, I yelped 'German' in the downriver area and Bierkeller appeared on the list. I was very surprised that Downriver now had a German place. After reading the reviews I decided to try it out. And I'm glad I did because I fell in love with this place. I've passed this establishment a million times throughout my life. I always figured it to be just a typical local bar / watering hole, and never went in. After new ownership and what I'm guessing was a substantial remodeling, this place is something special. When I pulled up, I was very surprised to see the parking lot and side lots FULL. And this was at 6p, on a Thursday night. Considering the parking lot was packed and the place had only been opened for three weeks, this place had to be special. Walking in, I wasn't disappointed. We were instantly greeted by a warm atmosphere and an equally warm staff who directed us to the last open table. My dad and I then proceed to stay for the next two hours and had a great time. The beer selection was great. They had many German beers on-tap along many other beers including the low end bud light type beers. I had a Spaten Lager. For appetizers, we tried the Kellercakes, which were very good. They're potato pancakes, which are always greasy but presented slightly different. Next time I'll try the Carving Board or Soft Pretzels. For dinner, my Dad and I both had cheeseburgers which freshly made and were excellent. The fries were the fresh cut, Five Guys style. Our waitress told us the Chicken and Waffles where the BOMB. Maybe I'll try that next time. We talked to the owner a bit. I forgot her exact words, but she described it as a German inspired bar. Not a strict German place. The food was great, atmosphere was excellent and service even better. The owner said they have live entertainment on Friday and Saturday. I typically don't like live music in bars because, 1) I like to hear my self think, 2) I like to talk to friends. BUT she mentioned that she only selects groups and bands that fit the atmosphere and that you can still enjoy the company of your friends. She mentioned some of the groups that come in, and they sound very unique and extremely entertaining. From her description, I'd really like to see the Jalopy Brothers. For desert my dad and I had Cinnamon Sugar Pretzel Bites. Whoa. Again, AWESOME. They are small pretzels bites coated in cinnamon sugar and come with a cream cheese frosting dip and a Carmel dip. Unbelievable. Looking around the room, there were a great mix of people. I saw 20 somethings at the bar, several tables of 50's ish couples, a table of middle age men having beer, etc. It seemed like all types welcome. I didn't see any 'riff raff'. I have daughters 17 and 15, which our server said were more than welcome anytime. Huge thank you to the owners. Downriver desperately needed a place like this. I will absolutely go back. My only complaint would be that after only being open for three weeks and seeing how the place was crowded, I fear that success will make it hard to find a spot in the weeks and months to come. They're going to need a bigger place. read more

We were in town for a wedding and found this little Germanish place near our hotel. They had a pretty decent selection of beer on tap, primarily German imports and various Michigan breweries. The food is not really German but is closer to American pub food topped with sauerkraut. The bier was what drew us in but we both thought that the lunches were very good as well. We went on a Saturday at lunch and it was fairly slow, possibly due to the road construction right outside. It was not a large place so I could see longish wait times in the evening. All in all this was a pretty good stop, especially if you are already in the area. read more

This place is the perfect spot for chilling out and watching a game, the food was outstanding the service couldn't be better, the beer selection was amazing, and the staff was very friendly, only problem was that if you don't get there early enough you will have to take a seat at the long tables, which have great views of the TVs, just the bench seating has no back so it can end up being a bit uncomfortable after a while, other then that if you're thinking about coming here, so your self a favor and check it out, I'm definitely coming back when ever I'm in the area read more

The service here is excellent. The food was pretty good too. The pretzel was delicious! Watch out for the mustard, it'll sneak up on you but is still very tasty. The potato cakes were one of a kind goodness. The beer is pretty reasonably priced and so is the food. This place won't break the bank. I also got the chicken Caesar tacos, that was a bad idea as that doesn't even sound like something that should go together. It should be removed from the menu. Chicken was dry but the dressing was delish. read more

Been here about 5 times since they've opened. I think it's a great addition to downriver. The inside is very nice. I actually used to work here years ago when it was Gerrings. So the update to the inside is wonderful. All the food I've had has been great! The bacon and cheese spatzel is my favorite. I'm not a bear drinker but the German grapefruit beer is yummy. My reason for only 3 stars has to do with the wait staff. Each time I've come we've not had a good waitress. The first 2 times I chalked it up to being new...but it hasn't gotten better. They take forever to come take your drink orders, then your food orders and refills almost never happen. We always go for an early dinner or late lunch, do never during their super busy time. I still will keep going...maybe one day we'll get a good waitress. read more

I had the turkey sandwich (sassy dame) with chips and my fiance had the chicken stew and a side of the daily spaetzel which was a corned beef. We were so impressed!
